i reckon free agency has an inflationary affect of atleast 15%, probably more for a very sought after player

then you look at the new CBA has an increase of pay between 15-20%, imagine what the next one will be. lets be conservative and say it has an increase of 10% when it expires in 5 seasons time

so in 5 years time, with form the same as it is now, he would be forgoing a 25% increase just for 4 more years of supposed security. when those 4 years should see him sign a 6 year deal the biggest of his career

the 9 year deal is absolute madness and bloody stupid. great for the club, absolutely shite for kelly

we need to hit his deal hard early. keep it shorter than north and sell him the idea of giving him flexability to get an even bigger contract in 5 years time with a new CBA and free agency now that he can move his tenure between clubs to qualify for free agency now

That's how I'd play it, and I'm sure his manager would advise him accordingly.

Okay I can't contain myself I REALLY x 100000000 want Kelly. He is an absolute star. We have pulled out for Fyfe. We have waited for 5 years, been patient, etc. I trust our recruitment and please let it happen, as a saint you never expect it to fall in our laps so I'm hopeful and nervous. Come on saints let's get what we DESERVE. I will cry. I also REALLY wanted Carlisle and prayed/cried with happiness once I heard his destination so I will be doing the same.

In that case, I'd rather go for Rocky and save some $$.

I know we want a big player and given the limited FA pool, the same few names keep getting thrown up... if we have gone off Fyfe then the club might well continue on its path to recruiting players like Steele and get them when they are inexpensive and young.

Thus giving us a sustainable run.

That's why Steele's isn't within cooee. It's not a knock on him, just what i consider to be a fact. Banger would hit blokes outside of packs with 25m handballs at times and they wouldn't have to break stride! You don't see anything like that these days.

Steele's is very good compared to others of his generation though. I love his composure inside the packs.

Steele is more Lenny than Harves, he's a big hearted competitor with a hard edge but no real trick bag to hang his hat on so he just works harder and out competes.
