As an older saints fan, it's bloody nice just to be linked with players of this caliber! Whether we get Kelly, Whitfield, Martin, or none of them - just being mentioned by those on this board as well as the media, it makes you feel proud that we're heading in the right direction!
Finnis and Bains have done a fantastic job in building a culture worthy of us being thrown about in these discussions. Personally, I can't wait to see what unfolds over the next six months!

He wasn't behaving himself last week when he ran away from a footy clinic when it was autograph time and got into his car and took off leaving a couple fellow Tigers to do the autographs. Imagine Riewoldt did that? Front page "RIEWOLDT HATES KIDS AND RUNS AWAY FROM CLINIC"

If some of you knew what some of our stars got up to over the past decade, you would change your opinion on Martin.
And with the things I have heard, which are pretty rife for a Caro type gossip column scandal, nothing has been written about them.
Some have alluded to certain illicit behaviour, but none of this myth of "if it was St.Kilda we would be crucified" myth.
Every club thinks they have been victimised by the media. Ask and Essendon supporter for example.
Couldn't care less about Martin the person. He is a hard worker otherwise he wouldn't be an elite AFL player at the top of his game.
If he came to the Saints, I would learn to love him.

Hard worker? Hmmmm....I know Richmond players who say when it comes time to do the weights in the gym he does nothing and sits around. Have a look at him he is just naturally freakishly strong and bulky but doesn't have any gym definition. Does this impact his game?? No it doesn't however I think he is just a natural freak but not necessarily a hard worker. I would still take him but we would need to be strong enough to deal with all the media backlash, Saints cop it worse and of course Bombers fans think they do. Captain Luke Hodge got done drink driving not long after Brett Ratten's son died and it wasn't a big deal or heavily pushed by papers to over the top proportions. If all this pressure about the Marc Murphy crap has affected them then imagine the s h i t that will come.
Just cos he's from there? We could pay more and they have f*** all trade currency

Yeah I think a few of us have heard the same stories, clearly it's the clubs call.
However it is a business, if public opinion and sponsors don't matter how come Colin kaepernick doesn't have a job?.

Are people actually worried about Martin as a person. Firstly he never gets in trouble on the field and that is the most important thing. Off the field he certainly wouldn't be the worst player going around. Doesn't seem to have many issues at all to be honest. I would love Martin and he has done nothing to suggest he would be trouble around the club.

ive been somewhat opposed to the signing of Dusty due to cultural issues,
but IMO it hasn't been a problem in recent times, and he is the best player in the competition right now, no one else would be able to carry that rabble on Punt Rd like he has this season. The more I think of it, the more I believe he is exactly the player we need and he'll be 26/27yo next year.
I'm glad we're interested in him, and surely we're a more attractive destination for him than north melbourne

cousins and martin are completely different
Pretty sure the leadership group wanted cousins and ross told them they were kidding themselves if they thought he would help.. gave them a reality check, next minute 18 on the trot and premiership favourites..
He's saying Hickey & Longer can play in the same team.

NFL is a different species to AFL. Drug abuse, abuse of women, dog fights etc, doesn't matter if they can play.

And we still have 1 premiership I'm well into my 50's we need a bonafide star to come to us we are a side of good players no stars or match winners, put a Dangerfield type into our side & it changes our dynamic Martin or Kelly will do that.
Was the club informed off the record that he's re-signing? I find it unusual to be so heavily linked to a player for so long to then drastically pull out so early. Smells funny.
