If i read one more comment about trading pick 7&8 for pick 1 alone, i will lose my shit. 7&8 in this draft will not be that far behind pick 1. So if we really would look at trading for pick 1 from Lions, i would be asking for pick 18 (First pick of round 2) in addition to pick 1.

Also to those that suggested that we should trade Gresham, i expect a formal apology by the end of the day, or GTFO
Pretty sure that's what the original suggestion was

Yeah but wasn't one of the reasons he wanted out of the bummers that they wanted him fwd and he didn't like it?
Think that fwd/back conflict at Ess was more about Bomber Thompson being as nutty as a hat full or squirrel shit.
Not talking about Jake as a permanent key Fwd. Just thrown up there a bit more often next yr to make us more unpredictable.
The bloke is a weapon.

With our wonky kicking at goal this yr. Or should I say kicking at the points.
Every time big Jakey clunks a mark in defense and then hits one of our players on the tit with a pin point pass I start to day dream about him playing fwd and actually kicking goals not points.
Hopefully young Goddard is fit next yr and White keeps improving and Jake can be more of a swing man.
He is a seriously good kick.

Imagine if he could ruck and was running around in the middle!

Along with the standard trade/draft options I'd roll the dice and payout and delist Minch, Wright Pierce and punt on picking up some "moneyball" replacements via delisted players.

Those three are never going to be best 22 and there has been nothing to suggest a serious "upside" so why are we keeping them?

*Only if we can't get Kelly

Pick 7, Pick 8 and Armitage for Pick 1 and Pick 19?

(Then we steal Rocky as a FA to replace Armo)

I reckon there are 4 blokes on our list who NEED to have massive pre seasons for us to improve without getting a big name...

Gresham
McCartin
Steele
Acres

These are the guys who have serious upside and its fitness related, yes Acres runs put games well but he needs to be more consistent across 4qtrs and get into the centre rotations. Gresham is a good goalsneak but I see his future in the centre, maybe a couple of years away because he apparently has a shocking tank. Paddy's ability is clear, but needs consistency and thats it, i believe. Steele improved as the year went on can't wait for him fully fit (him and dunstan could be the mighty duck bash bros).

Averages just over 2 goals a game and is statistically better than Lonie in almost every category.
No he doesn't his career average is 1.2 goals a game, the most he's kicked in a season is 27.

You can go and look at his stats there all available, he averages more than Lonie across the board which isn't saying much.

He's also 4 years older and just as small, my point is we just don't need him even without Lonie we have Gresham, minchington, long and wright on the list next year and matera is just another too small b grader at best.

We weren't good enough for the finals this year but at least we didn't lose to a single team who finished below us. That is a talent/game plan issue, not a heart/effort issue, that Melbourne obviously have.
Add some class and elite talent as well as a couple of tweaks in the coaches box and I fancy us to climb the ladder next year.

I hope the saints have a massive off season as some have alluded to.

I don't care if it isn't Kelly or Martin just as long as whoever we bring in is A grade talent and true to the clubs word targeted talent, hell if their young I'll even settle for potential A grader.

If it's a collection of talked up b graders like hall just go to the draft with our picks.

We will field a very young side next year, there is no imperative other than impatience to be top 4 next year.

If we stuff this trade/draft season up we may be better next year but not good enough to ever really challenge for a flag with this group. Once that money is committed and the extra pick gone you can't get a do over.

Collingwood will have Mayne and co on the books for another two or three years, how would you like players like that on big 5 plus year deals.

I'm specifically talking about trading first rounders and big contracts, whatever else the club manages to do in terms of trading players and or later picks is not an area of concern.

Being bold is different from putting on the rose coloured glasses and being reckless, we've been pretty good in our build so far let's not screw it up now.

Who's GWS play in the 2nd week of finals? Is it Sydney or Port? Gotta say they'd be good odds to go out in straight sets if its Sydney.
I wonder if that will help our chances with Kelly leaving or not?

The AFL will be torn in trying to get Essendon up though, they have done everything to make them money since they ****ed up. They will want to give them a Bulldog umpiring ride through the finals but will want Sydney to win for NSW rivalry to take hold.

Let's face it. If the Saints do not have a stellar trade/FA period we are probably stuffed re making significant head way in 2018.

We have a list chock full of in the main average players and very little genuine top-end talent.

Yes and no, some will improve again. Dal, Goddard, joey etc all took off at the end of the Harvey era. Sometimes the guys that look like average players come on in leaps and bounds. Billings, Longer and Gresham all looked like they could be top end talent after yesterday.

He was great at Essendon when he'd drift forward for a surprise attack but as soon as he was stationed forward he'd be ineffective. It seems to be the same at the Saints when he drifts up he's dangerous and unsettles the opposition but as a permanent forward he goes missing.

On a more cheerful note I loved Dunstan's work in the richmond game.

He had his shanks and everything but if you just isolate him and his burst out of the stoppages I was very impressed.

He was always good in the clinches but he's playing like how Seb Ross was last year at the moment, he's leaving the grunt to Koby and Steele and using his strength the burst out of stoppages and link up to our better users.

The big thing for him is to back it up for all of next year but he would be a fringe AA squad player if he can. Very happy for Luke.

That was an odd move alright.
