For all those who think the club should just trade for trades sake, because you think we need to get something, here's a tip to get your mind off your woes by doing something to quench that thirst for acquisition.

Get on the Clearing Sale circuit.
You can buy boxes and buckets of stuff such as bolts and nuts and screw and staples.
Used hammers, spanners, wrenches
Go up market a bit and buy a tractor with 1000 or 10000 hours on the clock
Maybe an old Bedford or Inter truck with a rusted out stock crate on the back (Usually described as a "good goer" - like most of the stuff)
A plough or a mower or a set of harrows or discs.
A used header or some storage silos if you venture into the cropping areas
Some used wire or even a half unused coil of wire.
And who knows what else. It will all be treasure (though mainly trash in the eyes of the departing farmer.)

Then take it all home with pride. And one day when you want to have your own Clearing Sale (or your estate does it for you), wheel it all out in the same condition you bought it. And let the next generation of the same ilk go mad with the excitement of just getting something for the sake of getting something.

Go for your lives boys and girls
Well said Sir

Nick Bowen

In: Pick 91, 2018 third-round pick (St Kilda), 2018 third-round pick West Coast)

Out: Sam Gibson, pick 46, 2018 third-round pick

Win: Extra points with academy and father-son prospects next year

Lose: A delisted player

2017 draft picks: 4, 23, 64, 78, 91, 96

What they couldn't get done: No rival clubs emerged as serious suitors for contracted ruckman Todd Goldstein, while the Roos had some interest in Cats midfielder Darcy Lang but ultimately not as much as Carlton. A late bid to become involved in Gold Coast's talks with Fremantle on Lachie Weller with a view to upgrading their pick No.4 to the Suns' No.2 also amounted to nothing.

Nick Bowen's verdict: After their big-money plays for Dustin Martin and Josh Kelly narrowly fell short last month, the Roos kept a low profile during the trade period. Their only trade was an exchange of third-round picks with Port Adelaide that bolstered their 2018 draft points position if they have to match bids for father-son prospects Joel Crocker, Nick Blakey and Bailey Scott, and Tasmanian academy member Tarryn Thomas.

Rating: 5/10

So we tried to upgrade 4 to 2...

Pitchforks back in the shed.

Sounds like the Laidley era.

Just quietly

I love that Stringer has ended up at Essendon. Such an ordinary bloke now plays for the most ordinary of clubs. Just a good fit.

Well said. the media like to hype and most of their hype is based on the writer's own opinion, remember these writers were former afl players so they are not that much better the social media posters, simply more famous. Essendon is suddenly touted as a 'destination' club. lol, got to ask their definition of definition? Is it a destination due to imminent success or is it a destination where the said players couldn't hack it at their respective club and want to go to a club who is a sucker for them by paying overs. I love how we have drafted over the years with FA. The dal santo, higgin, waite all played their roles brilliantly. Dal santo was instrumental to us progressing past 2 finals in 2014 and waite booted 4 goals each in 2015 final wins. The trades last year (ahern, hrovat, marley) were brilliant as we got 3 players cost almost nothing but playing key roles. I really like how we are going to draft the father son and academy players, so with pick 4, ahern (pick 7), academy (top 10), fs (top 20) over the next 2 years, we will unearth a quartert of top 10 pick players on top of the 13 players we have blooded. Future is bursting with light.

it can't always be about next year and the year after - there are opportunities to do things now and they have been ignored - the idea that there is something down the track...just wait for it... be patient....is either laziness or wishful thinking. In our case probably both.
Like what? I think Carlton and freo and gws did alright. But everyone else seems to have been screwed. Let's give it two years in the people * brought in. Three limited players. And they pay recruiting staff who surely have said that there is nothing worth anything after pick #11 in this draft. I'm sure they are a happy lot. IMO making a blueprint of prestia, caddy, and nankervis is foolhardy. Tigs got lucky. Blueprints are for building things like fences and political speak for a shift in the public service's attitude. Footy clubs are much more multi dimensional and democratically masterless as organisations. Teams however...

Hi guys, I'm Devon Smith. I don't passionately like it but you can call me the D train. If I hurt any of you in training I am sorry in advance. I sees myself as a 30-40 goal midfielder so please let me be myself. I know the goals better than you do get out of my space please mates

Hi. ( head down). I'm Jake and I've changed. I apologise to the first youngster that I have to tackle in front of the coaches in advance.

Had my fun So will not continue through ' the guns' clubs have traded in.

Hi
I come asking this question truly with total respect to your club.
I was just wondering what do you think are the chances of Andrew Swallow being delisted by you?
I’d love to see him at the Suns.
Anyway I ask it with respect and if you say Zero Chance then that is fine.

He will probably spend his time between the seniors and VFL as a mentor to our draftees and rookies
