Tricky one for us with not having a second this year and not wanting to let go of next years second.
GWS don't really care for third rounders and given their position, I can hardly blame them.

If #10 & #16 were on the table, I can't fathom why we wouldn't have taken it.
Sounds too good to be true and would have given us the leverage to do plenty of wheeling & dealing.

Dunno, they have a great list and makde a GF and seem to be able to make picks 20-40 sing as flankers and spare mids. I reckon AFC is in a very good spot and Gibbs is the cream.

Reid was not present when Adelaide built the core of their premiership list

This next 30 hours will change the way I view football, I was 10 when Carlton went and got Kernahan and Bradley (and mots see avatar)form South Australia and they became loyal legends of our football club, I used to wear 21 on my back playing junior footy, too think that the game now dictates that a club would (and rightly so) trade out a 230+ game player that they drafted as a 17 year old for draft picks that will in the short term make a team worse on the field is a reflection (or a slap into reality for me) that football is nothing more than a business anymore and although Carlton WILL always be my team, I will now have the blinkers off and enjoy watching individual players far more and just watch skills on display more than the jumper.

I feel a little sad that footy has become so cold and calculated and the realization that it is such a traders market these days has finally killed the romanticism in the game for me and that will take some getting used too.

It is a sad reality that took Carlton much longer than others to realise.
If Gibbs is not going to play in our next premiership and will not get us much at the trade table next year or as a free agent the year after, then this is the year.
It’s not all bleak. Half our best 22 is 23 or younger. Another pre-season or two, Kennedy plus, and I think we will win the games we lost this year when we were overrun in last quarters.

Wait, so going out and just buying the best players wasn't part of "the business"

Gibbs has served us very well over his career.
But the future is with Cripps, Docherty, SPS, Curnow and Weitering.

Good times are coming.

We will keep languishing at the bottom of the ladder with that mentality . The game must be played with how it's evolved and not based on distant memories of a bygone era when we just paid the big dollars to land interstate stars

No I know and I understand it, it is not about the "big stars" it is about the loyalty and I absolutely acknowledge that the club needs to embrace the new age and the business approach it is the right thing and the only thing they can do

agree wholeheartedly and even if Gibbs is not traded I will still miss the days of 2 way loyalty between club and player but we must move on and I am actually glad the club realizes this

I feel your pain here as most of us do. But even back then Blues cut players loose that were stalwarts of the club. We were at the forefront of Cheque book recruit. There is a misconception we were the only ones which is of course bull crap. But we were the best at it (Hawks and Bombers close behind). We didn’t change when the draft came on and we have suffered. Now with SOS at realm, we are “playing the game” again, in beast mode!!

It will hurt to see Gibbs play in Crows jumper if that happens, just like it sucked to see McConville, Jezza and Marcou in Saints jumpers. Stay strong, we will take our place back at the top of AFL where we belong. And this time, it’s going to be way sweeter with the suffering we have collectively experienced.

Maybe not...SOS in the media was very strong on needing a mature player since we struggled without Cripps last year. Barrass70 also said in the rumour SOS is demanding a player.

Have to ask yourself, if Adelaide were suddenly wiling to part with 10 & 16, but SOS isn't willing to take it, whether another thing is both recruiters don't rate the draft that much...or at least don't think there's much chance of picking up a good player with 16.

Balic deal done.

Balic :arrowright: Melbourne

Pick 66 :arrowright: Fremantle
See? Not worth pick 54. We kicked the tyres mid-season, and he didn't show much then, and hasn't shown much since.

Dees are desperate for a big bodied mid if they've turned to him.
