I have often thought that too many ex-TAC Cup players who don't get drafted straight out of the TAC Cup go off to local leagues therefore not giving themselves the best opportunity to be given a chance at a later stage. The Vic players either get drafted or get lost in the system, that's because there are more Victorian based clubs who put more time into the Vic kids in regards to late selections. I believe the interstate 'Colts' competition goes up to 19 whereas the few who are still around on the Nab league/TAC Cup at that age are considered an afterthought at best.
Recent history tells us that players who end up at VFL/SANFL/WAFL clubs will still be under the watchful eye of recruiters & still have access to reasonably professional set-ups while those who go & play in local leagues are basically conceding they will never have an AFL career, perhaps writing themselves off too soon.
