The Vic players either get drafted or get lost in the system, that's because there are more Victorian based clubs who put more time into the Vic kids in regards to late selections. I believe the interstate 'Colts' competition goes up to 19 whereas the few who are still around on the Nab league/TAC Cup at that age are considered an afterthought at best.
I have often thought that too many ex-TAC Cup players who don't get drafted straight out of the TAC Cup go off to local leagues therefore not giving themselves the best opportunity to be given a chance at a later stage.

Recent history tells us that players who end up at VFL/SANFL/WAFL clubs will still be under the watchful eye of recruiters & still have access to reasonably professional set-ups while those who go & play in local leagues are basically conceding they will never have an AFL career, perhaps writing themselves off too soon.

That's certainly the case. I was keeping an eye on a kid from my daughter's junior club a few years ago, some prospect of a late ND or rookie pick, missed out, some talk he was going to Northern Blues but in the end went back to TAC Cup as an overager, played I think one or two TAC Cup games then went back to local footy and just dropped off the radar.

Picked up with the compensation pick we gave them for pick 42.
That was fair value for Kreuger, who has a serious speed advantage in the VFL. Combine that with full-time training, and you'd expect him to beat most opponents on the lead and work them over up the ground.

Body strength and keeping his feet under pressure are his weaknesses.

I'd like to hear from those who have seen a decent chunk of Deluca's form this year, because if he's not a genuine top 40 chance in November, we sure as shit better catapult out of the bottom 4 in the second half of the season.

My read of him when he was in AFL ranks was his kicking action was horrible, and easily broke down under pressure/on the run.

After watching Carlton today, Joshs pressure around the ball and hard nosed approach will certainly help. I think a defensive forward-midfield role is where he will fall in to play. He's hard at it, a great tackler and big accumulater. Kicking was an issue but that greatly improved last year with Subiaco and furthermore again this season, getting forward for scoring opportunities too. He has pace and endurance.
He's not been on too many losing teams in his career either so he only knows winning, which has got to be good thing.

Another step up in pressure on the ball carrier at AFL, disposal will be interesting to watch.
Things are about to change on his W/L CV if selected.

As with all potential draftees I think. He's got a proven game in the WAFL, let's see how it translates. There's a lot of water under the bridge since his days with Freo.

Be interesting if we take him given Lloyd was at Freo and would have been involved in the decision making when he was culled.

Are we taking him because if his age or because he'll be long term player for us?

This year is a write off so it's about the longer term for me.

We'll soon fix that.

Watching those highlights I hope he has improved his kicking action because that is one ugly ball drop, the last thing we need is another player who cant kick.

Yeah, looked a pretty unnatural kick and handball technique. Can’t say it inspires me with confidence but then again, we’re not exactly gonna get a Sam Walsh with this pick one.
