Perhaps we can ask the AFL to renegotiate Buddy's contract a little to pay him an extra $600,000 in 2019, not decreasing the length of his contract, or the amount, but just changing how much he gets each year.

Trade ban for asking the question?

Clarke is our only experienced recruit in the past 3 years. We clearly are not focusing on bringing in external talent
Not focusing, or not successful?

so....i take it we were used by Langdon and management to force the hand on Collingwood and put them into Salary cap pressure for the future?
Take a bow Sir. Don't want to put the boots into the club but the question has to be asked. Are We the great professional football operation that is supposed be admired by all our competitors or is that just a myth now because it seems like we are not only in danger of declining on field but off it as well ? One thing I do know though, we are very hospitable, generous easy going folk. Need to get that steely hard as **** ruthless edge back on field and off. Our edge was lost the minute we never took the AFL To court with that ******* travesty that was bestowed upon us for doing **** all wrong.

Wow. We have a couple of years left max of bud being the best in the comp and we bring in....ryan clarke.

Not sure what is happening at the club. How can we go from probably the most aggressive recruiting team the least. Are players saying no to us? Or is the club being run with different tactics?

We have clearly had a draft focused strategy over the last few years, due in part to the trade ban, the rise of the Academy system and some very good products from that that we wanted to retain and the need to ensure that we kept bringing in youth to a team that had got a little on the old side.

That strategy has set us up well for the future, in my opinion. Heeney, Mills, Ronke, Papley, Hayward, Florent, Melican, Alliir and McCartin look like being key figures in our team for the best part of the next decade. Add to that Blakey joining us for next season. We have put money into retaining and extending the contracts of these players, justifiably.

Next year we probably face McVeigh, Grundy and Smith retiring. That opens up a big space to fill, and I would think that the decision to clear cap space with Hannebery and Rohan leaving could as much be about preparation for that as it is about making the space available for use right now.

The rumblings out of the club at the end of the season is that there is a lot of faith in younger players stepping up to fill roles, like Mills and Jones in the midfield. I'd love to see a high quality experienced midfielder added to the team now, but I could also understand us feeling that next year we would be in a better position to make such a play and holding off.

And to add to that Hawthorn are also now chasing Scrimshaw from Gold Coast which was a previous top 10 draft pick, if they get these 3 deals over the line, it will be hats off to them.
They'll be able to thank their geographical location more than anything.

Ffs ....
No one is coming in to save us.

We don’t need to be saved.

This has been crap so far... but there is hope. Here is what I would do...

We need to load some of Buddy’s future contract into that Langdon sized hole this year. Hit the FA pool next year. Got a good feeling for that and the academy options next year.

We draft Blakey

After Blakey, we flick our points to Collingwood for their first. Draft the best kicking inside/outside transition mid available

Next take a speedy kid who can sit on heads, don’t care how tall, I want some excitement!

Before the draft send a token pick to GC for Mitch Grigg access and set him loose - tell him his job is to flick beast mode and thump anyone who goes near Kennedy at a stoppage... if there is any saving to do it’s Kennedy’s longevity, he’s owed that for what he’s done for us.

Put Heeney, Mills and Hewett in front of videos of Kelly highlight packages and say this is what a champion looks like in red and white. You have it in you, find it, harness it, be it.

Back in Naismith, Dawson, Ling and Mellican to give us a different look / dimension

As Lleyton Hewett would say - C’mon!!!!

Our training facilities seem cut below these other Vic clubs now. State government funded Holden Centre is way ahead of anything we can offer presently. Hopefully the new facilities announced at the B& F will help in a few years. Even Naught Melbourne have top facilities. West Coast, Geelong, Hawks.
This has been one area I've been concerned about with our club.

So many tears over miss out on Langdon. I mean harden up!

One can like or dislike the thought of Langdon playing for us but the fact is the Swans had set their draft strategy and decided that he met a need that they had identified. Apparently the likes of Moore and the Berg were also part of that strategy and yet the Swans have totally failed to achieve any of their objectives.

Unless there is a lot happening behind the scenes, or we have a wonderful Plan B about to be unleashed, or the above named were part of a cunning deception and our Plan A is actually yet to be unveiled, our recruiting team have spectacularly stuffed up this year and we will go into next season with a number of holes that will not be filled.

I think Grigg is totally worth the gamble. Wouldn't demand much cash, body is ready to play right away, great skills... Seems to me a no brainer he will be on an AFL list next year somewhere.

This is just fanciful stuff 2018 trade is over there is noone left that would improve us.
