We all know the reasons and it has nothing to do with what SOS and Bolts have undertaken. It is the mismanagement of the list of the past regimes
Sure. But at some point I believe the AFL would want to help any teams that are down the bottom of the ladder year on year, particularly where free agency is not helping those teams.

Wake up ! Murphy made this comment a few weeks ago in the papers . I kept my mouth shut , he then repeated it again in front of the camera . Ffs he is our captain in a team getting flogged and he is prepping his future at another club .

We got make a stand and move him along asap . We got to learn by the fact that nice footballers don’t get you success . Thanks fir your service but be on your way chump

It would free up cap space
Then Cripps captain
And the players would want to play under a real lead from the front captain
Sorry doc vice for you
Then go hard on FA and hit the draft for mids

maybe new rules should be set in place
Every 4 years each club only can pay a max total of 2.5 million on FA. Could give lower clubs a better chance?

I would say we are heading to a point where that is the case. Wietering, Marchbank, Jones, and especially Docherty are all very good interceptors.
The future ... Weitering, Marchbank, Docherty, Macreadie and Williamson. I see a spot for a small, running defender who beats his man, and perhaps Williamson goes to the wing, in which case Plowman stays in the back 6.

We have been down the bottom longer than ANY team in the last 6 years …...

Wow. I'm surprised. Genuinely surprised that we have the need to lock Polson away this early in the year and for another two years.

Well done Cam. No doubt you're doing a lot more than we're seeing through limited games you've had for the CFC to date.

It's the least we could do after SOS broke his shoulder and put him on house arrest in his draft year.... :D

Last year our ruck division was:
Kreuzer
Phillips (inj)
Gorringe
Korcheck
(Casboult and McKay).

We were lucky Kreuzer remained fit and had a great 2017.

We delisted Gorringe and Korcheck and replaced them with Lobbe and TDK.

I’d say that’s a marked improvement.

Whether the players are an improvement or not isn't really my point.

Having Kerr, Cas/Mckay, TDK, Phillips and Lobbe is detrimental to the development of the younger players and the VFL team as a whole.

10 games in after missing a year and Garlett is a disappointment????

He is for mine. You put Jed Lambs brain in Garlett's body and you have a damn good player. Not sure missing a year is an excuse. He plays with no aggression, competitive hunger and doesn't do team things like chase tackle and apply pressure. He doesn't go to the contests and doesn't make enough. His intent and attitude are poor and there's no excuse for it. That's why he is in the VFL and the less talented Lamb is in the best 18. Lazy, soft, undisciplined football with talent never trumps effort. Only flys in the lower levels.

We have a lot of youngsters with talent and the same problems and it's up to our coaching and having strong leadership to mould those youngsters into strong competitors so we don't have talented players fail at this level like we have had the last 20 years.

Garlett is a massive disappointment because he has the talent and the fitness and doesn't perform for these very reasons.

This is why I think it wouldn't hurt chasing a senior body or two who will give real leadership on the field and on the track.

We want to be like Hawthorn. This is the next part of copying their structure IMO.

I don’t think anyone wouldn’t not want to have Doc as captain. He’s a great instructor on the ground like Hodge. Cripps is a great inspiration to follow into battle and no slouch if named permanent captain.

For me I’d choose Docherty as captain and Cripps the deputy.

If we are paying at the bottom of the range and as an example Murphy, Rowe, Thomas were to leave, the salary difference and cap space could land us a star and 2 solid upgrades.

Also, isn’t it practice now that if you’re under the salary cap you can make up the percentage under to overs the following year/s? That allows manoeuvring of quality players onto your list.

He’s been a good player for us at times no doubt but uninspiring as a captain at best!

I’ve maintained the opinion he’s been close to if not the worst captain (as a captain not player) since I was old enough to sing Lily of Laguna:

Fitzpatrick, Johnston, Maclure, Kernahan, Bradley, Ratten, McKay, Kouta, Whitnall, Judd, Murphy. It’s him vs Maclure for the wooden spoon there.

Yes it does - with the $900k Murph is reportedly on would put it towards CCurnow + Cripps + FA

Agree - Simmo was the choice there but was too old. The only available player we had to appoint captain at the time was Murphy, Gibbs and Kreuzer. I think the decision was a no brainer - but is a better player than captain. He is a top bloke BTW but for onfield hardness and inspiration he was the best we had. The predicament we are in - moving forward however we do have vastly better options now.

Really, i thought Maclure was a good strong Captain but that's only my opinion.

I've felt the same way in the past Soap, but looking at this season I'm changing my tune.

We're so reliant on a small number of players at the moment, that a few unlucky injuries almost guarantees us a bottom 4 finish. That will, of course, eventually change - but in the meantime, we should be taking advantage of every possible avenue for list improvement.

Priority pick - take it
Inflated FA compo - take it

Use it however we have to, either at the draft or on the trade table.

Rort the system the way other clubs have. Melbourne is on the rise, and how many people are saying they haven't put in the hard yards just because the AFL gave them Pick 3 for Frawley? Getting a PP or compo pick doesn't dilute the work our coaches and players have done in earning future success.

PP = 19
If Murphy goes, argue to the AFL (behind closed doors) that after the Waite bullshit, and with our captain on the move, that we should get a pick immediately after our first. They can spin it however they want (no Murphy compo, just a Band 1 PP) to manage public reception. Trade the Pick for Wines or Shiel. It basically becomes Murphy for one of those players. Good bloody result, I reckon.

As an added bonus - if the AFL rolls the Murphy compo into our prioroty submission and awards us a Band 1 PP, we're free to chase another Free Agent or two.

Well said.
There is not one thing that is fair in the AFL today.
Like all club's , we've got to take the gloves off and fight for anything and everything we can.
In the main , supporters are backing the painstaking rebuild but are also entitled to demand the club explore every single avenue possible to help and accelerate the process.
Too hell with the moaning from opposition supporters and agenda driven sections of the media should a PP deliver us another quality lad or even better , contribute towards landing some quality ready to go support for Cripps.
