What is Setterfield worth? Been injured for 2 years but has could be a star. He hadn’t played as much football as Kennedy & Steele but isn’t as injury prone as Ahern. So may be pick 26 for Setterfield and pick 69.
Really good inside mid....obviously no fear of the contest with his list of injuries.easily worth a gamble..i agree a Bont type who just wins CLEARANCES.....
Acl last april will get a partial preseason....wont play a full 2019 season
expect little relief early mid 2019 for our midfield

2019 will be another tough year for Cripps.....no elites in the door lets Hope Dow and Fisher SPS improve plus we can use Murphy still as required
SOS is trying to strengthen our forward pack ......and has so i think we can score more than 100 pts in 2019

We have to still throw kitchen sink at possibly two good mids next year then-kelly/scully.....

Neale is an interesting one because AFAIK he doesn't actually have any ties to Brisbane...they just seem to be the only club seriously trying to poach him for some reason...

It seems to be a move he's considering due to the extra money and longer contract terms than Freo, so i'd love for us to join the race. Might not be too late as Essendon also came in late for Shiel.
On the plus side of going to Brisbane, you could not get any further away from Ross Lyon

Still need running power or players that can break the lines on the cheap. Brandon Ellis and Murdoch will be two I have in mind that would come relatively inexpensive.

So far Wright, Mullet, O’Shea and seemingly Byrne off the senior list plus Alex Silvagni and Shaw off the rookie list.

Looking like McGovern, Setterfield, Walsh and Fasolo come in for those 4 senior spots, perhaps Ben Silvagni and maybe Hugh Goddard as rookies.

Are we expecting any other changes? Does Graham survive another year?...

Interesting time to reflect on the Gibbs trade.

OUT:
Gibbs
2017 - 77
2018 - 21
2018 - 40

IN:
Pick 10 - Lochie O'Brien
Pick 16
- Pick 28 - Matthew Kennedy
- Pick 30 - Tom De Koning
- 2018 Pick 26 - 33.3% of McGovern
Pick 70 - Angus Schumacher
2018 28 - 33.3% of McGovern

At this stage it reads Gibbs for O'Brien, Kennedy, DeKoning, Schumacher and most of McGovern.

O'Brien should make it, McGovern will be good, might get something back from this trade too, Kennedy will be handy and might make it, DeKoning looks like making it and Schumacher has shown good potential.

If we get something back from Adelaide for McGovern you can add that too as a partial, maybe it will be Setterfield.

We also gave up pick ~40 last year. I'm not sure who was taken but I do know Worpel was there.
Still looks like we've done very well all up

Love the analysis and feel better about the trade... :thumbsu:

Plus our poor performance due to losing Gibbs :'( meant we also got the priority pick for 33% of McGov (or their 3rd Round 2019) sop arguably we got all of McGovern from Gibbs:think:

So if I'm correct the Suns now have picks 2, 3, 24, 26, 29, 38, 41, 58 (point scoring picks only). They're not going to use all those picks this year, so SOS should try and do a deal.
Potentially Casboult to the Suns is worth a pick 40 and Carlton's 2019 3rd will also be around pick 40. That roughly equates in points to GCS picks 26 & 58.

So pick 26 and Adelaide's 2019 3rd rounder (approx pick 45) could then be offered to GWS for Setterfield. That's roughly equivalent in points to a pick 16.

Carlton: Out - Casboult, 2 x 2019 3rds | In - Setterfield & 58

GWS: Out - Setterfield | In - Pick 26 & Adelaide's 2019 3rd

GCS: Out - 26 & 58 | In - Casboult & Carlton's 2019 3rd

That leaves Carlton with their 1st and 2nd picks in 2019.
2018: 1, 42, 58, 65, 73
2019: 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th

Trade radio talking about us trading pick one down for two later selections and grabbing the kings...apparantley the Kings and Silvagnis close friends...can't see that happening shirley

No chance I would think, especially not after just bringing in McGovern. Just makes no sense. If anything we’d probably try for Smith and maybe Rozee or evenLukosius or Rankine.

Also not sure GCS would actually want to trade 2&3 for 1...

Plowman. Jones. Marchbank.
Docherty. Weitering. Simpson.
SPS. Kennedy. O’Brien.
Murphy. Charlie. .Fisher
Fasolo. Harry. McGovern.
R. Kreuzer. Cripps. Dow.

I. Kennedy. Setterfield. Williamson. Walsh.

Cunningham, Lang, Thomas, Hmac, Rowe as depth.

Positive signs but still think we need a little more depth.

Quality first 22 players which then forces the youth to fight harder for spots. That's where I now feel the depth will come from.
No more O'Shea, Mullett, Shaw type padding. It didn't work before it wont work now.

It's a good thing if the likes of Cuningham, Macreadie, Polson, Lang, Kerr etc know that they're not too far away from a senior berth.
Most of these guys are now third and fourth year players and don't need protection, but rather the right type of guidance and development.

I really want us to be looking at this group to step up next year and not have to throw the likes of Graham & Kerridge into the mix just because they're still not ready yet. It's our fault if they're not ready, so get them ready....Russell. :)
