Round One Squad

Docherty Weitering Marchbank
Byrne Jones Williamson
Pickett Cripps Simpson
Dow Charlie Fisher
Murphy McKay Lukosius
Kruezer Kennedy SPS
O'Brien Curnow McHenry Brodie

OR: Collier-Dawkins Plowman Cuningham Polson Miles Scrimshaw Lester Dahlhaus Silvagni TDK Lamb Garlett Macreadie Kerr Bytel

Put that squad on the park most weeks and we will win 6-8 games in 2019 and be a much much better side. The benefits of playing the young players this year will start to show. Another pre season will mean heaps. Injuries have absolutely killed us. Bring on 2019

My best 22 for 2019: :D

McVeigh, Collins, Biggs
Lloyd, May, Scrimshaw
M.Crouch, Cripps, Cerra
Hannebery, Lukosious, McGovern
Fasolo, Lynch, Dalhaus
Lycett, Shiel, Kelly
B.Crouch, Brodie, Wallis, Horlin-Smith
Prefer to draft Walsh over Lukosious and keep Curnow. Otherwise decent team.

P.s. Charlie mind you! Sorry Ed

Not saying we shouldn't trade pick 1 if the right deal came along, like still retaining pick 2 or 3, along with other things we gain.

We just need to keep an open mind to all possibilities, rather than saying Shiel won't come this year and forgetting a deal could be done with future picks

Would I prefer he comes as a FA next year, absolutely, but you don't say no this year, if a deal can get done
At last some sense re Shiel .
Going forward lower clubs may have to look at enticing quality players a year before they hit Free agency .
As at present they are losing players to higher clubs through FA .
Imo it would somewhat take out some of the competition for the player and in our case most likely open the floodgates for further quality via both FA and trade in the next few years .
Its not something the club will want to do often or at all again but in our situation it would be an enormous help in future dealings with prospective quality players imo .
And even better if we could get a half decent draft pick coming back our way .
As you said keep an open mind dont discount Shiel because he may come free next year .
The flow on effect of bringing a quality player like Shiel in could be enormous in future years .

crazy monday thought.

19.23.26 for swans hannebery an pick 12.

get two top end kids in an at worst another handy mid to help cripps out.

i don't rate pick 19 to 30 to much role players Cunningham an corey ellis types need class.role players are easy to find

Also i doubt he was aiming for Brayshaws chin. You can see Brayshaw bends his knees and lowers his body significantly just as Gaff throws the punch. Just really unfortunate timing by both produced the worst possible result.

Agree, was my initial feeling on the incident. I don't think he'll get 8, his defense will argue unintentionally made contact with face. The more I think about it the more I feel like he was going for the rib/kidney area, just looked like a weird punch to throw

Really! People think it wasn’t intentional!?!? It’s an intentional punch but not full force, he actually pulls it a bit. It’s a quick swinging straight arm punch upwards to the head. Possibly non-dominant hand. But it’s sure as hell intentional and to the head.

Was replying to the above post, never said it wasn't intentional just that I believe he didn't mean to hit him in the head. Also that's what I believe his defense will be based on.

Not sure what it has to do with list discussions.... gaff is not our player and most likely will now be

Does anyone think this changes our thinking regarding Gaff?? He seems remorseful and never been in trouble beforehand, do we just put it down to stress regarding his decision to move or not??

FFS, if people care to read the whole discussion you can see that I posed the above question last night which does indeed have everything to do with list discussion

Nah. You don't throw a punch like that at someones what, their collarbone?

Even on a brainfade, if you've clenched a fist and thrown it in the general vicinity of his head, that's where you've tried to get him. I also kind of reject the reasoning that Brayshaw is somehow also at fault in any way for a bloke hitting him - not quite what you're saying, but it's what it amounts to.

This isn't a tragedy. Bloke might not have ever thrown a fist in anger before. He has now.
No not saying Brayshaw is at fault at all.

But it looked like Brayshaw planted his foot to try to change direction. In doing so held bends his knee and his head comes forward and down, probably 6inches (?). At the same time Gaff is swinging a round arm, so the combination of the force Brayshaw's bodyweight shifting forward onto his front leg and the force of Gaff's punch produced the horrific results.

I saw similar when I watched the replay, perhaps he was aiming for a shoulder or chest, but if that was the case, it is not a defense

"Your honour I never meant to shoot him in the face, was aiming for a shoulder"

What i would try and do:
INS:
Wallis-FA
Tyson- for a pick next year (our 3rd for their 4th)
Pick 1- Lukosius KPF
PP- Caldwell MID
Pick 24- Stocker MID
Pick 26 Williams RUCK
Pick 73- BSOS KPD
Rookie pick 1 and 19- lucky dip
Thomas and Lobbe to rookie list.

OUT:
All rookies: A.Silvagni, Glass-McCasker, LeBois and Shaw
Graham, Mullett, O'Shea, Rowe and Phillips.

I know all my selections in the draft may not be around at those picks. 2 experienced midfielders who know how to find the footy at senior level. 2 more young midfielders, KPF to help Mckay and Curnow try and kick a score over 100. Developing ruckman and we can de-list Phillips who is injury prone. Lobbe and Kruezer are 29 so need replacing in 2 years. Need young ruck right now to go along with TDK.
BSOS is better defender than forward. Worth a shot with our last pick in the draft. 2 rookie spots can use 1 on Hickmott. Have to drop 2 senior players to rookie spots. I picked Thomas and Lobbe because no one else would draft them.
I could dream and say we are going to get Gaff and Kelly but we have to be realistic.

You can see exactly why the club stood so firm on losing Gibbs.
We knew how important he was to our midfield.
Now we can see, in plain view, the reason we didn't plan to lose him at all.

Missing him makes everyone need to move up a peg... Ed Curnow should not be our 2nd best midfielder.. even though he is playing admirably!
This is not a slight on Ed (he is just the example.. love Ed!!), but club would look much better if he was our 4th string/tagging type.
But Gibbs gone means he steps up to 2nd string, and we replace Ed with an 18 year old kid..

We come up against GWS and they have 5 experienced mids churn out 25+ disposals...
Bloody hell it hurts.. now we have to try and replace (Gibbs) the player we had with Shiel/Gaff/Polec/Wallis type..
Saving grace, hopefully it wont cost us the same price Adelaide had to pay..

Why haven't you traded Cripps for Dom Tyson?

Would probably free up some salary cap space to go after a big fish...
