A 1st year player that managed 15 games in his rookie year playing in a team with no semblance of a game plan and bugger all structure yet averaged 0ver 15 disposals off half back.....you're an extremely hard marker. Players usually get a rising star nom after a run of decent consistent performances.

Exactly right, 15 games in a struggling side that he probably wouldn’t have got at a decent club. By no means am I calling him a bust, just that I was underwhelmed whenever I saw him this year. I was quite keen on us drafting him last year before it became apparent he wouldn’t fall to our pick. I’m glad we got Fog instead.

Port have done very well - 5, 10, 15 Lycett and Burton in.

Only 2 genuine 1st 22 players out.

We shouldn't forget our hand of 8, 13, 16 and 21 cost Lever and McGovern too.
Agree.

Polec and Wingard could both be all Australian next year in which case this will have been a disaster.

Or Polec could get injured and his contract could start to look like Scully’s; Wingard might never get his zip back; and Port will be geniuses.

A lot of that comes down to chance! There will be lots of hindsight heroes in 12 months time.

At this point on balance I think it’s probably good for them.

Exactly right, their priorities are all wrong here. With their list profile, they need as many first-rounders as possible rather than banking it all on King.
Same with Carlton. Holding onto pick 1 to only get Walsh is madness with the holes in their list. Their next pick is like 80.

Doesn't that principle, also apply to us .....Happy to bundle #8 and #16 , but want us to take 3 first round picks into the Draft
Our list isnt as dependant on new draftees as st kilda. I think once everybody knows who is going to pick who in the draft we will see some aggressive pick trades go through. Wouldnt be surprised if we let port think they have the upper hand and then come draft night we pull a shifty and snatch a pick before them, ruining their plans. Imagine the melts.

If you are going to talk about Lever then might as well mention that we also got Gibbs as part of that deal.
You can if you like.

Doesn't change the fact that if Lever stays we don't have 16.

A draft hand like we and Port have costs. No point bagging them for the cost and pretending we somehow got our hand from nowhere.

People too obsessed with what Port are doing around social medias. I'd back our staff to take 4 quality guys and turn them into great players. With our list profile there's a real chance to set this club up for the next 10-12 years here.
+1

You can't fix their list in one year... They've brought in a few decent players. Pick one should help. They'll need to go again next year too.

And the same with Port. Their trade with Fremantle was non-sensicical. Conversely our list profile and player development should allow us to move up in the draft and focus on a few specific prospects.

Jesus ****, can opposition supporters of teams that can't develop and ultimately destroy players with top 5 picks, get the **** out of this thread telling us how they wouldn't trade that pick they almost tanked for because "top 5 talent is too important"

St Kilda suck balls, genuine balls, they have no forward line at all, none, a midfield that couldn't hit a barn with a kick from 10 metres yet their supporters come on here spousing how they are just one more top 5 pick away from glory?

Get the **** out and stay out.

And how many players of the talent of Hodge, Judd or Ball were there after pick 5?
Top 5 picks this year are by no means sure things, but they are way higher chance of being elite than anyone after 7.
Bartel at 8 was a Brownlow medalist. Stevie J was a pick 24 and James Kelly was pick 17 in the same draft. Two of them played over 300 games each and Stevie J just fell short. Geelong had similar picks in that draft to the ones we currently have and walked away with 3 guns.

I would argue that all 3 had better careers than Ball from that draft class.

I think most clubs have a fair idea of the 1st 8 picks

Nothing in the Top 10 will be done on Draft Night .....the price is going to be HUGE overs to persuade a club, that couldn't be persuaded either during Trade Period or Pick Exchange Period

I agree, not to show our hand early to Port .....but I do believe we've thought some of these clubs, involved in the so-called Mega Trade, would approach the Crows for assistance.
So far it looks like the deals may get completed, without the need to involve the Crows :(

Our Best Chance now, is to hope GC end up with pick #5 ......and are happy to do a double down by the Crows .....but given their list numbers, this maybe false hope

No turds for a day is not abnormal. Not great but not essential.

Myriad of issues could be causing that. One of them is fiber and the other biggie is hard core painkillers.
On the bright side if he has done 2 shits that might mean less shit from his mouth

This is under the assumption we are able to trade 3 for 8, 13 and something else

What would we prefer - Judd, or Bartel and Dal Santo?

Obviously not trying to say Caldwell/Hately becomes Bartel, or Rankine becomes the caliber of Judd, but just a basic comparison

Cool, so 3 champions out of 75 picks after pick 5 and 3 from the first 5 picks. Think I know where I'd want my picks to be.

Just for fun I compared pick 4 with picks 8 + 13 over the 20 years 1997-2016.

On average, do you think the players taken at pick 4 gave a better result than those taken at picks 8+13?

Clue: it's not even that close.
