Lycett will be okay for them. Mayes might be too, if he’s in the right headspace. Burton will be great IF he gets back to his 2017 form, big chance the injury comes back to haunt him though

We’ll see with their development, they’ve been decent with developing top 6 or 7 picks (Wingard, Polec, Boak, Wines - none are complete spuds)

Lycett is a mediocre. Always has been, always will be, and Port have given him a massive contract.

Mayes is vanilla. Steak knives in a deal. Glad we didn't get him.

Burton I reckon has the tools to be very good, he's a good pickup for Port. Question marks over his body though.

Port have also traded out a lot of quality to get these guys. Polec is one of their best players, and Wingard has even more elite traits than Burton. They'd want to be bloody sure they're getting a dead set gun with pick 5.

Well once again the crows have been slow off the mark, hate being beaten by Port. They are locked in now for Rankine. Meanwhile we'll probably get some of the lower ranked SA players.

Like I said, it's like the crows recruiters can only focus on 1 trade or one deal or one pick at a time.

I imagine other clubs being a hustle and bustle of activity behind closed doors while at the crows we have 1 guy at a desk looking over paperwork going "ah ha, OK, I see". Lol.

Like the sloths from zootopia.

And when we review the draft in a few years time, I am willing to bet that Adelaide would have done better than Port Adelaide. Our drafting record and our player development record speak for themselves. I would back us in against any other team out there. That is one area of the club that are truly high achievers.
I sure hope you are right, beating Port in anything is sweet. You do have a good point re their development and drafting compared to ours. Also am I wrong in not being keen on Hately, just heard mixed opinions on him.

We may well have to wait till draft night to see what our move.

Even if we manage to get pick 2 & 3 to trump Port for two of the big SA-3 (and there are all proponents for Luko, Rankine and Rozee on here) or Smith, Port will also be able to get one of them - we just have to get used to it. They've paid enough for it.

Lol amazing. Good thing I no longer care about footy, or else I'd be really upset by this.

Port have stolen the show.

Is this satire?

They've pretty much ruled themselves out of premiership contention until 2025 in one trade period.

After going all in to try and get in premiership contention last trade period.

Yes, by trading to away 2 of their best 6 players. Do you think we should have done the same?
Wingard is on the decline. I call that smart trading cashing in before the stock plummets. Polec is a loss but he is not a game breaker. Port have done very well especially if they get rozee as he is the pick of the draft imo.

The contract for Lycett is bad, I’ll give you that. He’ll perform under his worth, but he’ll still do pretty well I reckon

Mayes is probably around Atkins level when fit and firing (I.e. in the right headspace). If he can get to 2017 form that’s a good pickup for the price

5, 10 and 15 in this draft is a great hand. They’ll do well with these picks if they develop their players right. You could say the same about our hand (re: development)

Grabbing an SA kid at the cost of giving up the premiership window you spent all of last year trying to trade/fa yourself into.

Bit of seeing the wood from the trees is necessary here.
Or, credit to them for being brave enough to admit that strategy wasn't going to work and being agile enough to change tack by making hard calls on some players who they obviously didn't see in their next premiership team.

A lot of teams would have clung stubbornly to the original plan and been sentimental with their current list and ended up bottoming out.

Only time will tell if they've made the right call depending on who they end up with in the draft.

I think Port have done well.

I still think we should have moved on one of Sloane or Lynch for various reasons and probably still been in our premiership window and been able to move up the draft.

I think the club got caught up in retention given McGovern was going.

Wingard is the only player they have who is a match winner (apart from R Gray who you'd assume only has a few years left in him).

They might be able to draft an 18 year old who has the potential to be a match winner.

Tend to agree that Wingard was never going to reach his potential under the current Port regime, but given their difficulty with developing players you'd wager that will happen to the poor bloke taken with 5.

I suspect it's more schizophrenia then strategy.
