Ralphsmith looks like a good prospect but looks like a Heeney and we already have one of those.

I wish I could share your optimism Wolftone but Stephens is gone. We might as well accept it now. Was a decent career with us but will become a superstar at another club you watch.

I think he was told not to say anything and has continued it to tonight. Remember Crows had 4 (LOL!) so nothing could be promised
Beatson said yesterday they would call the player they wanted and mentioned in interview that Sydney had to choose a player likely to stay!

I think GC have screwed up with that pick. Obviously they had the idea to trade up and take "the slider" - whoever it was. But they can't have done much homework on Flanders if he really wasn't keen on moving at all. The last thing they need with all the good work (and AFL gifts) they are doing is a guy that doesn't want in.

I can imagine a trade next year.

Yes we should get a reasonable pick from that lot. The next 3 before our pick are Adelaide twice then Geelong. Surely Adelaide will pick Schoenberg as one of their picks. I think it’s possible that Robertson will still be available at 25. The talk is that the slide was because he is average disposal by foot. That said he was still adjudged as Larke medal winner. Of the last 10 winners 3 are stars of the game and one a future star. The others are established quality players. Are the Larke medal judges idiots??? Can’t believe that.

I wonder if the club has concerns about Ling and/or Stoddard.

Ling's body and Stoddart's hardness. This kid has proven himself in seniors and goes fine in traffic. Though I thought both were recruited more as rebounding flankers. Getting a nice collection of wingers.

Rubbish. Has mates at Swans. He went to school with Will Hayward. He joins, Hayward, Dawson and Hewett as SA boys in the Red and White. He is from Mildura, not a lot of love for Crows or Port there. Stop whining. He'll be OK.

Hayward has become arguably more important to our list management than Beatson. He had an injury-plagued year in 2018 and he's in for another one next year. Will be sore from carrying the responsibility of keeping Florent, Papley and now Stephens at the club!

I’ll have a look tomorrow. Highlights on the website look good, but I reckon they’d all have a good highlights package.

I reckon even I had 5 pretty good stats over my career. There was this one hanger I took in late June 1999.... Only just landed!

But the fact that they said “not bothering bidding on Green, this is the bloke we want” says plenty to me.

I love that my club quietly goes about its business. Control what we can control. Get the player we want at the pick (Rowbottom), don’t crap on about Daniher or Papley. I reckon Stephens will go great guns for us.

Cant wait to see who we get tomorrow.

Due to the two academy bids being taken up. our picks 25 & 32 have slid down two spots. In reality there will probably be a pick on Maginnis before that as well (which Hawthorn will match) pushing our picks back one further. So, there will be at least 5 more picks before ours.
If we desperately want Robertson we will probably need to offer Port our next two picks (27 & 34) for their pick of 22. Alternatively, we simply take one of the 7-8 good players yet to be selected when our pick comes up.

Really like the type of mid we went after. Looks a player who will fit into our team perfectly.

Even if there is a higher risk Stephens goes. I am happy the club took him. If the club are excited by a player then I rather they back themselves to keep him settled. Than keep passing on talented players out of fear.

And looking at Stephen's history, he left Mildura for Adelaide on a high school scholarship. So as a teenager he left home for an interstate educational or football opportunity. Now this is where that sacrifice and hard work leads to. He can play for a well run AFL side and earn decent money.

Port are no certainty to take him in fact I doubt they even need an inside mid. Geelong won't as they favour kicking ability. If we were doing a trade up I feel we would have done it tonight to get Kemp. Doubt we will bother with about 8-10 really good talents there.
