Im not stressed who we pick to be honest

The faith I have with our club at the moment is at an all time high, we will simply make the right call when pick 11 rolls around

Nothing more certain

I'm not stressed about who we pick because I have absolutely no influence over the decision and the result is inconsequential to my wellbeing.

8 - Brodie Kemp:
Hawthorn recently visited Kemp's house so could be a chance at No.11.
9 - Deven Robertson:
Hawthorn are likely to snap him up if he gets through to 11.
10- Fischer McAsey:
Hawthorn has also been heavily linked to McAsey with pick 11.
12 - Dylan Stephens:
Adelaide is a possibility, as are Fremantle, Carlton and Hawthorn.
16 - Finn Maginness:
He'll be headed to the Hawks, it's just a matter of where the bid comes. It seems most likely now that a bid comes early in the second round, which the Hawks would match with their next pick/s.

Wat: your post is like a running commentary of something you are thinking about. Are you making a point or just spewing out your thoughts on the page? Richie Benaud said something like, “If you cannot add to the moment then say nothing”.
Please Wat, add something more than meandering conversation. You know you have more focused thoughts within you. Research them well and if you think you have a point.. share.

Well seeing a majority of posts on this forum are just peoples thoughts, opinions and feeling on topics surrounding football. I don't believe I will be heeding your advice and will continue participate as I see fit.

That's the spirit !
Welcome to the Hawks, McAsey.........not !

Nothing against the kid, but cautionary tales against athletically limited defenders being taken early are literally everywhere over the past drafts. Durdin, Goddard, Weitering, Francis, Collins. They're just not a great option early.

Why is there a sudden dislike for McAsey? I understand Kemp/Stephens would both be superior choices but if not available taking McAsey is the next best thing.

A 197cm defender who is a sublime reader of the play, has good skills, has good speed and is a great contested mark. Admittedly he struggles when isolated but strength & conditioning are two things that can be improved by time in the system. The fact he struggles against bigger bodies actually makes me more inclined to take him because it suggests he isn't simply a brute force defender that looks good because he's stronger than those around him. The fact he can read the play means he has a smart footballing brain and within the Clarkson system that is invaluable. There is a reason Geelong are looking to trade up simply to get him.

I would be ecstatic with any of Kemp/Stephens/McAsey/Robertson. Who we take will likely come down to availability (please Melbourne bid on Green @ 3 to stuff GWS up and ensure they don't take 2 players).

Assuming there has not been a bid on Finn before GCS’s Pick 15, this Draft night live swap might work...

Hawthorn give: 2020 1st round (value pick~12?) + Pick 30 (629pts)
GCS give: pick 15 + 2020 2nd round tied to Brisbane (Value pick ~36?= 502pts)

Possible loss of points~ 300.

Gain: a second 1st round pick before we take Finn.

That's the first one my non mathematical brain has not gone into seizure over.
Nice job.

If we get Kemp/Stephens/Robertson and we trade back into the first round to get McAsey I'm not against it as it's a nice spread of top-end talent with two midfielders and a KP, but to pick up a KPD with our first pick just seems a waste as we are a system based backline that just needs people to play rolls. This is important but I believe we can fill it at a cheaper price if need be. Plus the best way to support our defence is to have the best midfield we can getting the clearance for ourselves or creating pressure for the opposition to rush their inside 50 entries. While I haven't looked much further than the top search result videos, reports are he isn't the quickest which seems to buck the trend of the previous KPD we have targeted. Also, the fact that the belief this draft is that the KP stocks are of poor quality makes me question if the footage we are seeing is him beating the best and if it will transition to VFL and AFL level. Also, he didn't provide any results at the combine so there is little to go off there.

I definitely agree that I would probably prefer the three aforementioned targets. But GWS moving up to Pick 4 is a headache because unless Melbourne bids on Green they will likely take another player + match points on Green. This means that one 'slider' may not get to us. There is a reality in which all of Stephens (to Adelaide), Kemp (to Carlton) and Robertson (to Fremantle) are not available with our selection. In this case I am completely fine with picking up McAsey.

The best case scenario is GWS take Green with 4 (only happens with a Melbourne bid unfortunately) and Fremantle take Henry with 10. If this eventuates I believe we will land Kemp because Serong may be available for Carlton.

19 for future first?

We need a future second coming in to trade the future first, maybe Pick 19, 2020 second-round and pick 56 for 2020 first-round, pick 30 and pick 63.

Hawthorn in:

Pick 19
2020 second-round linked to Richmond
Pick 56

Richmond in:

2020 first-round linked to Hawthorn
pick 30
Pick 63

Plus for that to happen Hawthorn would need Maginness to fall past pick 19 so this trade would only happen on the night in my opinion.

Adelaide provided the pick to GWS? they must be very confident

I know a lot of you guys want Pickett if we go a small forward, but I like the look of Cody Weightman

If we can pick up another 1st then I wouldn't mind Weightman and Kysaiah Pickett. We need some small forwards and if they are the best available left on the board then I hope we take at least one of them.
