He's been part of our system & best 22 for a few years now & we have given him finals every year so yes he's a loss but oh, well, he doesn't want to be here.

will be a big loss, but yeah if he wants to go then whatever zac,

They want to move around like its the nba but dont give up their control over trades

should be able to trade players anywhere we want unless they have a no trade clause
If the AFL wants true equalisation then yes, this is what they should do.

Won’t though. Buckled.

That is a bad trade for us. Basically trading Jones for the right to draft our academy players next year, which we already have. There is no benefit in doing such a trade
not my thinking. I would back Saints first pick to be an early one.. before our academy boys get selected. This would allow us an early first round draftee and the two academy boys.

I should also add that I have no issue with players looking for opportunity but "want to go home" but only to one club in a state where there are 10, does us no favours when that club has nothing valuable to give us. Mitchell to Hawks, Jolly to Pies & now Jones to Saints for what, pick 5? No way, their next is 55.
p**s off Jones.
I'm not expecting too much for Jones given his contract. But the Saints may need to get in a pick to keep us sweet. They don't have to sit pat on what they have. What does that fat bloke going to the Cats get them for example? If that is too high, perhaps they split it with another pick swap.
What would be par for Jones atm? Pick 20?

His a first round draft pick that has backed up his selection and is coming into the peak of his career.

Should be a selection between 10 and 14.

In terms of age, experience, output, contribution to respective clubs etc., the best match from St Kilda would be Jack Steele, but as someone said earlier on don't think Saints would let him go, they're talking him up as a B&F chance.

get a third team preferably

Or Carlisle as a fairly needs based trade, that could be an okay sideways trade. I'd rather take their first personally.

That is fair but being out of contract means we will get unders - next years 2nd would be my guess - maybe player but not sure anyone we want is possible as they have similar issues to us. Carlisle would fill a need but too old for our group and seems like a dickhead, Acres if he can play in the middle but if he can he would have done it for them - I'd ask for Jimmy Webster

I think jones will be a big loss but that’s my opinion

Not being from Australia, and in reference to the abandoned COLA, if living in Sydney vs Melbourne is more expensive, I can understand why he might choose to be at an interested club there now that he is out of contract. And if he wants to be closer to family, I understand that as well. I hate losing any of our players. I hated Jetta leaving, but ending up with Sinclair meant at least, we ended with a player that filled a need. If Jones wants to go, I hope we can bring in another player who wants to be a Swan, fills a need, and is healthy. It might be a straight trade with the Saints, or a deal involving a third team. If Mason Wood nominates the Swans and the doctors feel he is fit, St. Kilda could throw a draft pick to NM to seal that trade. Better than to trade away Papley for him.

Someone from Sydney educate an unenlightened American. Does it cost more to live in Sydney? What is the cause? Housing? Taxes? Utility rates? Price of Fuel? Food prices? Transportation? I would really like an opinion or two, because it seems to relate to player retention and acquisition.

Good questions. The COLA was introduced to combat 2 issues. The first being that Sydney is a more expensive city for everything - housing, coffee, etc as well as more congested with transport. This meant that your contract was worth a bit less if you lived in Sydney.
However, the biggest issue that the COLA was meant to combat was the availability of income for players outside of football. In Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth, the players can earn considerably more through endorsements, advertising, appearances, etc, and also never have to pay for a beer, clothes, etc due to fans. In Sydney and Brisbane, all of this goes to rugby league players so AFL players don't get as much.
It means that if you are a young player with a bit of a profile, your salary goes further in Melbourne and you get the fame and all the extras that come with it. This is the great attraction for the young guys to get 'homesick' for Melbourne once they establish some value in the market while playing for a northern club.

Wait a second. If Buddy or Heeney or Mills gets asked to do a commercial, or a player from the Giants, Suns or Lions are asked to do the same, they can't? While players from every other club can? Why does that remind me the horse barn needs mucking out? Is that just because Queensland and New South Wales is rugby crazy, or does Eddie McGuire own interest in some rugby teams?

They can if they are asked, however it is because these cities are "rugby crazy" as you put it, that their opportunities are limited. Buddy and Heeney may transcend that, however most Swans players would not be recognised in the street, let alone a TV commercial.
