The question is how.

Reported that swans won’t give pick 4 as any part of a deal with Daniher, so unless you guys trade papley, which it seems none of you want to do, I’m unsure how you even get the currency?

It’s all a bit odd imo. Why do the swans even want him Apart from the name. You already have Reid and buddy, mccartin and Blakey, doesn’t make sense to play that many tall fwds?

Fortunately we don't make the decisions. What you are failing to understand is at the end of the day the currency might not be as high you would like it to be. Daniher wants out and your club is not opposed to it. Fact. He will ask for a trade, Dedoro will be his usual Dick self during the trade period and at the eleventh hr Your club will cut its losses and take what we will give you. Which will be fair Btw. We are not talking about John Coleman here.End of story.

I am genuinely interested in why you seem so keen to get joe this year and not wait? Does the Daniher name really mean as much to Swans as it does to us? I ask this genuinely as I really thought it was more an Essendon thing. is it more than a normal father-son affection? Quite cool to think two teams love the same family.

I guess if we did have cap issues and if we needed too then we would have an issue matching an RFA offer? is that what you mean?

In saying that from reports internally or at least what i have heard our cap is not that tight. Its more around risk for us, much like it is for the swans.

If daniher wasn't injured he would already have a massive offer in front of him from us no doubt.

Stringer smith Shiel saad weren’t free
I heard essendon had bugger all space left

It's got many of us puzzled too tbh. Huge risk, likely high trade asking price....we have a huge amount of our cap already in the forward line....🤷‍♂️

On your cap. Have you just spent Daniher like money keeping Francis from going back to Adelaide?

Gee he would have been on a s**tload !
He was on more than you think. His 2014/15 were very good. he was just rubbish when he came back. Daniher's contract extension would have been factored into budgets but whether the club still wants to risk it now is probably the issue now. If you guys get him then look after him. He's an awesome guy.

Could you provide a credible source for extra cap space? That certainly didn't happen. We lost Colyer last year to relieve cap pressure.

"The AFL had consulted with the Essendon FC and AFLPA and our decisions are as follows:

• Essendon may upgrade all of its five rookie listed players to the senior list as a 1-1 replacement, as though the suspended players they were replacing had long-term injuries.

• Essendon will be granted the ability to sign up to 10 extra players to its list, by powers granted by the Commission to our General Counsel Andrew Dillon:

• Existing contract values for the listed players who have been suspended shall be included in the cap.

Extra payments to supplementary players will be included in the club's salary cap but Essendon will receive an allowance for payments to supplementary players over the cap limit."

Francis wont be on anything like daniher. Probably about 400k at the most. His sticking point was guaranteed game time more than money.

So only the top-ups in 2016, not returning players.

No. The way I read that is that any players you have had as top ups & who have stayed on have been payed outside the cap.
So yes, as the years have gone by, that is fewer players but it sheds some light on perhaps why Tippa hadn't signed immediately as he was one of those allowed outside the cap. So now going forward he will be a part of the cap. So this creates a squeeze on your cap.

No doubt

But it ain’t tight enough to increase Daniher to 1 mil

No we only got an allowance for the one year. Tippa wasn't a top-up.

Respectfully Disagree but I guess will play out how it will. Am hopeful he stays but if he did nominate then a deal will be struck no doubt.

what he is worth to us ad what he is worth to you are probably 2 very different things no doubt.

Essendon wont let him go for anything not involving a first round pick - we would likely get that as compo for letting him go as an RFA so would be stupid not to at least ask for that now.
Gee, we must’ve been totally screwed by our Hannebery trade using that philosophy. But I guess you’re all over it hey?

You do know where the Daniher’s came from don’t you?

It seems Sier still hasn’t committed to the Pies? Read his thread quickly and Pies supporters seem to think the two year deal is still on the table but he hasn’t signed in...

Perhaps has been offered a longer contract / more opportunity elsewhere?

Could be akin to picking up Kennedy in 2009 if it were us? Similar player at least from a size and role perspective.

Of course. And i know they have many good relationships within the club. I'm just talking about the high cost/high risk factor.
The same factors that you could ask your own club? Silly question though, none of us recruit for the club!
