I know you want Parker out of the middle but I still think he needs to stay there. Rest forward and snap a few by all means.

I actually think Menzel with a pre-season under his belt and injury free could be the answer. Plays small or tall.

Well let’s hope re Menzel. I would just love to see Buddy on the arc, Heeney one out in the goal square, and a Hayward and Parker/Menzel taking a pocket each. Forward pressure is important but equally as important is having someone around goals who can lead well and take a strong grab. But I may be bias as I’m a big fan of the medium forward who is good both in the air and at ground level.

Need to. Or get nothing for him... Right?

They would get compensation but they would get a lot more this year in a trade. Comp would be say pick 15 or so, they can get a top 10 pick at least this year

Yeah, you're right mate. And who knows what that could be! It could work out really well or be horrific... Such a guessing game. High risk.

It's usually based off the length and the dollar amount. They should get first round comp but that's just a pick after their first rounder, and seeing they should improve that's a pick around 14-16.

Why would Essendon improve in 2020? I don't see it myself, for them to improve from 8th, others above them need to fall down and no one from below them move up.

Around the edges of the eight is their best outlook, a pick in the 9-12 range as compo. I'm hoping we are not looking at Daniher this year.

If we lose papley and keep 8...we have regressed and wont play finals again whilst buddy is here..if we trade papley, we need a guarantee that we are able to flip it for a very good player

If the difference between us playing finals in the next 2/3 years is keeping or trading pick 8, then we should trade everyone under 23. We are miles off.

If Danniher wants to come - he gets here now. He won't wait until 2021 then come. It's now or never!!

The question is how.

Reported that swans won’t give pick 4 as any part of a deal with Daniher, so unless you guys trade papley, which it seems none of you want to do, I’m unsure how you even get the currency?

It’s all a bit odd imo. Why do the swans even want him Apart from the name. You already have Reid and buddy, mccartin and Blakey, doesn’t make sense to play that many tall fwds?

You never know what’s going on behind the scenes. None of us do. I’d almost guarantee if a deal goes down it will be nothing like anyone here envisioned.

What makes you think a player that has played a handful of games in two years is worth a 1st round draft pick?

what he is worth to us ad what he is worth to you are probably 2 very different things no doubt.

Essendon wont let him go for anything not involving a first round pick - we would likely get that as compo for letting him go as an RFA so would be stupid not to at least ask for that now.

Daniher is a problem for Essendon, whether their supporters want to admit it or not.

What happens next year when he is injury prone again? Do they sign him for 5 years on 800k? Would they re-sign him over the preseason with no knowledge of whether or not his body can stand up to AFL football.

What happens if he asks to be traded, and Essendon want the world, and it doesnt happen - but then we are bottom 3 next year and he becomes a live preseason draft possibility.

If he was available as a free agent (this year), then I would be all for it ... even if we have to take the above risks. But given what we will have to give up; given where our list is at ... no no no no! This has the potential to completely fck the past few years of mediocrity (rebuilding) and gifts we have received through the Academy.

There is of course the chance he comes back, is fit, plays like an All Australian, resigns with Essendon and we all ask 'what might have been?'

I can live with that. We will still be good in a few years time, with or without him. Our list still needs time to mature before we should get really excited. Most neutral supporters will have us finishing bottom 6 next year.

There are so many red flags with this, I feel like writing a letter to the club ... in red ink ... capitals!

What if Essendon need cap space

What if Essendon need cap space

I guess if we did have cap issues and if we needed too then we would have an issue matching an RFA offer? is that what you mean?

In saying that from reports internally or at least what i have heard our cap is not that tight. Its more around risk for us, much like it is for the swans.

If daniher wasn't injured he would already have a massive offer in front of him from us no doubt.

To get Shiel over the line & to your club, rumours were that he is on close to $1M. You also were allowed a little more in your cap after the suspension of players in order to allow the list adjustment when the banned players returned, without displacing the players that filled in during the ban. That extra cap would now be coming to an end so I have a hunch that it may be for this reason why you may be very tight in the cap & will need to lose a player/s who your club would normally keep. Perhaps Daniher will be the one.

shiels on about ~800

all the suspended players deals were done before the cap increase and would not have included the % increase.

think our cap is pretty healthy...

Could you provide a credible source for extra cap space? That certainly didn't happen. We lost Colyer last year to relieve cap pressure.
