On to point 2, Carlton have said they were still trying to do a deal but wouldnt part with their first. This is supported by the fact we almost timed out.
I reckon a lot of the timing is dictated by the interviews and coverage. Almost all the picks took a few minutes other than pick 1 and ALL of them waited until after interviews and coverage.

My thoughts on Gould;

I've said before that I'm not overly convinced. He looks to me to be a guy that is going to struggle with he pace of the AFL game. I think he's undersized for KPD and too slow for mid-sized/small forwards. So I'm not sure what role he plays. (Dear future me, this post is probably going to age very badly. I'm sorry)

I think Gould is the type of player that when on your team, you are going to see his flaws and him getting exposed for lack of pace.
When on the opposition, he will be the player you hate as he constantly injures your players and is a brute that seems to regularly destroy you.

I can 100% see Port picking him and him killing us in Showdown's for the next 10 years. And yet I still don't really want him...

Some guys don’t really look like it - but they can just football.

Best comparison I think is J McGovern. Different role/style of course, but that same - doesn’t look like a modern player, but just is.

Like him but not sure we spend on another defender

For our next two picks I’m on the Josh Worrelll and Charlie Comben quinella.

You can never have too many Tall Defenders and to add a skinny undersized ruckmen would just about make the Tools and Trolls heads explode :).

I was a bit disappointed with the melts from the T&Ts last night. Many went too early (like Faith, F2, and F3) but a nice recovery by the “Sydney blindsided us” fake newsers.

My other option is a slowish half back flanker, preferably all from Vic Metro.

We got rid of four talls during the trade period

Jenkins, Jacobs, Otten, Hunter

With two coming in (McAsey and Frampton) I'd have no trouble with us selecting a tall with our 2nds.

I'd be really hoping for Worrell but failing that, one of Gould or Jones sounds good.

The other pick, best available midfielder who isn't a disgraceful kick. Whether that's Robertson, Rantall, Sharp, etc.

Wouldn't mind a medium forward with one of these picks either, maybe at 37. Question marks over McAdam and Davis leaves us light on there

I think Freo 2020 1st (= Pick 8-10)
For GWS 2020 1st (=pick 16-18) plus one of the 2nds tonight (=25)
So, who do you have us picking at #76 (in this year's draft) then?

That's the impact of trading pick #25, and not replacing it with another pick in the 2019 draft. We have to make a minimum of 5 selections in the ND (unless we plan on making a PSD selection, which we don't). Our 5th pick is currently #46, our 6th is #76. Trade pick #25, without replacing it in the 2019 draft, and #76 becomes our mandatory 5th selection.

Good summary - I think Port will jump at Worrall. Some upside for us being a Sandy team mate of Fish.

Have a feeling Brissy looking for a running type defender. Lot of noise they were sniffing around Smith. So maybe they go Sharp?

Would leave Robertson who I think would be too good to pass up. Hamish particularly mentioned some kids still there they thought would be gone.

Gould is then the ???? If not him then Rantall or Shoenberg I think.

Of course that assumes no trades and Hamish indicated there is already people calling us

Hamish said they have a group of 25 players and he thinks most clubs will have the same group of 25, I doubt we want to move out of 25.
I think we're already out of the 25. A lot of course ba wouldn't have had Philp and Giorgiades in it, for example (no dissing those guys).

One of our picks seem to go rogue each year.

Who would of thought when we traded our 1st last year It would affect SOS so much.

Bidding on 2 academy kids then trading out to take Philp at 20 makes Hamish look like an angel.
So in effect it was Stocker, Kemp and Philp for McAsey?

Not me. I may get shot down over this but I see some traits of Luke Hodge in Gould. I reckon he’s gonna be a jet

Would you give up #25 and take a PSD tonight, if you thought you could turn next year's pick #17 into pick #6?

I'm not *immediately* dismissing it.

Relative worth of drafts, etc. What if we have a crap year and so do Freo and then we have picks 5 & 6 next year?

Hmmmm...

Maybe...

My point was that trading these picks has unintended consequences. It's not just the picks involved, it's also the other picks which we are forced to use (which we would otherwise not be using).

Is one potential gun, and one potential nug, better than two potentially decent players? It's an interesting call.

It's even more risky, given that the value of the picks is dependent upon the relative performances of 2 different teams (GWS & Freo) which are entirely outside our control.
