Why are we playing Martin as a forward? Someone else posted that Teague or another coach mentioned this too. From everything else I've read and heard he's a wingman? Or high half forward delivering into the forward line.

We may not play Martin forward, time will tell.

He has shown though he can be very damaging forward of centre, he's a terrific overhead mark for his size.

Has kicked 3 or more goals in 11 of his 98 senior games, they're not bad numbers from someone who has spent time all over the park.

Martin is going to play mid/high half forward. He's at his best when around the ball, not starved for opportunity.

People are going to be very surprised at how his level of footy nous and skill is beyond 9/10ths of our list.

Lets get him into the club first! Hard to do much from outside the list. If we do get him though, big asset, kid can play (when he wants to)

Question for those draft watchers who have an opinion on the talent in this years draft. Where would Liam Stocker be picked if he was available amongst this lot?

You could break it down further. Pick 28 came from Adelaide for menzel plus we got Kerridge.
That trade was Menzel and Henderson for Plowman and McKay. Thats a win for us

We effectively swapped Philips for Pittonet.

So you can add our 23 year old ruckman to the haul form that deal.

Stocker and Setterfield stepping up as genuine centermen is exciting. If we have the luxury of playing Walsh on a wing that would be a big advantage. Walsh will be great wherever in the midfield he plays but he could be the best winger in the comp and playing more outside early days should look after his body long term. These prospects are pretty exciting. Fingers crossed options come pouring in for positions and roles in the team.

Hmmm, midfielders to choose from 25yo or under next season..
Cripps, Setterfield, Walsh, Stocker, Kemp, Dow, Fisher, SPS, Philp, Gibbons, then outside run with LOB, Cottrell, Martin, DC & cameos from JSOS, Kennedy...Williamson....Lang (pressure is on to show something).

Ist round selection player count for 2020 = 22 (Incl pre-draft Jack Martin). Will be one for Ch7 commentary team..

FB: Plowman Weitering Stocker
HB: Doherty Marchbank SPS
C: Walsh Cripps Obrien
HF: Martin Curnow Dow
FF: Kemp Mckay Cuningham
R: Kreuzer Setterfield Murphy
IC: Kennedy Lang Philp Goddard

Not a bad team at all and holds up structurally. Feels wrong without Fisher in there though.

I agree with this, he does need to be around the ball. I think many will be pleasantly surprised, especially in a more structured environment and a good head space. Ability in spades.

2022 Best 22 (where I believe we should be contending)

B - Plowman Jones (?) Petrevski-Seton
HB - Docherty Weitering Marchbank
C - O'Brien Cripps Walsh
HF - Martin Curnow Cuningham
F - McGovern McKay Fisher (?)
R - De Koning Setterfield Stocker
IN - Dow Newman Kemp Silvagni

EMG - Gibbons, Williamson, Kennedy, Pittonet, Casboult (?), ECurnow (?), Cottrell, Philp, Ramsay, BSilvagni, Macreadie, O'Dwyer, and future selections.

* Simpson, Murphy, Kreuzer, and Betts retired
** Jones, Casboult, and Ed all close to retirement
*** Lang, Owies, Goddard, and Polson delisted

Strengths: Midfield depth, strong forward targets, versatility, and decent cover across lines

Weaknesses: No established pressure/crumbing small forwards

The strategy from SOS & Co this draft was clear; to address the most important part of the ground and establish midfield depth in anticipation for the retiring Murphy & Curnow as we surge towards September in the coming years. While this doesn't necessarily help in 2020, it'll be MASSIVE in 2022 onwards. The final piece of the puzzle are small forwards, which will be addressed in 2020 through Papley, other targets, or the draft.

We have 'will they or won't they be any good' type midfielders coming out of our ears, I can't help thinking we've overdone it and taken a 'she'll be right' attitude to anyone over 190cm who isn't a midfielder. We'll be outgunned on the wings and flanks even if our KPPs hold up.

Wut?

Melbourne look like taking either Bennell or Brown at pick 1 (Gold Coast have a full senior list)

“Thursday night's draft made a certainty of the fact the Suns would lose Martin for no compensation”

Yeah right, no compensation.

All I can say is " ****ing WOW!!! "

Up until now I'd never factored in Martin until the ink was dry on the contract....in 12 hours time he'll be in the ODNB!!!

ps great to hear your in good spirits Elmer....with our draft picks, and Jack on board, there are only good times ahead :thumbsu::)
