Get the Northern Blues to entice Jacob Coniglio over from Perth Demons (WAFL). Only playing ressies after transferring from Swan Districts. Can spend time living in Melbourne with his brother, and wear the same jumper. Stephen would love being in Melbourne, massive cricket fan and player, whom would love the MCG and its cricketing history. Jacob can help "Magic" Bennell (also Perth Demons) settle in too, at Ikon Park.

What happens when Jones is right to come back? Casboult has been doing so well as a KPD/Ruck? And we def cant fit them both in?
Will be an unpopular opinion as I mentioned this in another thread but Jones to come back via the VFL if Casboult continues on with his form.

Was thinking about this yesterday. For example, offer up Goddard to the Bulldogs for that guy we were supposedly interested in, Bailey Dale.

183cm flanker, 22-23 years old, good fit for our club.

Need to look to offload one player in our position of excess.
Like Bailey Dale good forward smarts and puts his head over the ball he'd be a good addition to the forward line

So what happens if Papley or Martin nominate us as their destination club? Do we just not pursue them because of the likely asking price, or deal with their club to broker a deal...in any case, our first round pick would have to be a starting point in any negotiation.

Bonar would be the 2nd quickest over 20m in our team, only coming second to Pickett.

His pace gives him a point of difference over every other big bodied midfielder in our team.

Great point Eiffel, he has size and pace to burn. Would be a great get as a big body mid, and wouldn't cost us a first rounder, more like a 3rd and some shuffling of later/future picks....especially if GWS are feeling a salary squeeze if they re-sign Coniglio and looking to offload.

I mentioned earlier in the season Papley imo being worth a pick between 20-25 thought he was a clever little forward capable of kicking a few goals and applied good pressure.
He seems to have taken his game up a notch this year looking just as good rolling through the midfield as well, if he continues this form through out the rest of the season Adelaides first "12/13/14 would be a fair trade.
He's exactly the small forward who can also roll through the midfield player we are crying out for, if we could jag Papley with another small/medium forward I'd be absolutely rapt

We still need midfield depth as in mature players "23/26 for the seniors to help the kids and young up and coming midfielders for depth and development in the reserves as well, Bonar would be a handy pickup having 2seasons under his belt being a big bodied quick midfielder capable of playing forward as well furthering his development in the NB's or Seniors

I thought SOS/Bolts came out and said this year is more about consolidating the list we have and next was more about getting the FA’s etc?

We are two years behind where we wanted to be.

Agree with the philosophy but don't like Bonar, struggling to impact in Neafl.

We're still to see what impact Deluca will have this season. Hopefully we'll be pleasantly surprised.

I just cant fathom people on here are making out as if Whitfield wouldn't be a perfect fit for us. Cognilio is a gun so I wouldnt be complaining if we got him, but for me he is a player that recieves much of the glory and fame due to the hard work of this bloke. We are getting Doc back next year and Dow and Setterfield will have another year in the gym so we will hardly be short of tough nuts in the middle, as it stands we are already one of the top clearance sides.

Every game we play we cant transition the ball properly or we cant find the right targets in the forward line and it ends up killing us. I wouldnt be selling the farm with draft picks to get Papley or Whitfield but if you could get Whitfield done for next years first and Papley for some sort of package working out around pick 20 that would be huge for getting this team up and running. Then take Adelaides pick this year and hopefully look for someone like Dylan Williams.

Any doubters of this blokes talent needs to have a watch of this

When the fit is that good I think you pay it.

Perfect for us in position, age profile and snarky match winner persona

I know everyone loves Dow but in hindsight Stepehson would have been EXACTLY what the doctor ordered. What’s his contract status? We should offer him 700k just to put the squeeze on Collingwood.

Whitfield would cost 1mil and 2 first round picks

And I would gladly hand that over

Likely to get a contract - JSilvagni, Kreuzer, Jones, Cuningham, ECurnow, Kerr, Schumacher, Goddard, Gibbons - 9

Possible retirees - Simpson, Thomas (although Thomas likely get one more year). Murphy is contracted, but I feel he may retire - 2

One the cusp - Lang, Garlett, Phillips, Fasolo, Pickett (although it's up to him) LeBois, Casboult, Lobbe, DeLuca, Cottrell - 10
(Bolded are the three I see being retained)
Marchbank and Jones also out of contract this year.

Just thinking about Goddard - Would it make sense to trade him out for a small forward/back-man.
Goddard has been in good form, but also seems a little lighter and a lot more agile than he was at the start of the year (Russell?), reads the ball in the air well and has a good kick on him.
What if we approached a team that requires a solid lock-down defender and we manufactured a deal for a best 22 player for us, that may not be getting opportunity in their team.

LeBois has all but run out of chances. It's going to take something special from him now, for us to now place him onto our senior list.
Polson is also miles away from getting another senior game for us. He is contracted though.

Would we take for a pick ~40/50 for Casboult should someone think they could do with him for a couple of years?

Just feel that SOS/Agresta may have to get really creative this year. There's little choice actually.
Seems that we've positioned ourselves already to be creative and that started 8 months ago.

One thing that seems clear is we have a surplus of KPP.

Was this SOS strategy from the get go similar to GWS as they hold trade value?

Casboult as a defender is quite the revelation. What I want us to assess by the end of the year is what is the best mix. Does having Casboult as a lock down defender get the best out of Marchbank and Weitering (more so than Jones in Cas role).

Goddard seems a good backup.

Jones would have the most value on the trade table. Gun defender. However if the backline as a whole functions better/on par with Cas then maybe we pull the trigger.

Now just thinking out loud, and I don't advocate for the below, but our tall forwards are in interesting situation too.

I want to know if Kerr can bring his VFL form to the AFL.

Kerr himself holds little trade value. Charlie and Harry huge huge trade value.

Obviously Charlie and Harry are better players I don't see us trading either.

However if Harry and Charlie give 9 Output and Kerr can give a 7. Would SOS consider trading one to fill other needs. Could snag a gun mid and small forward with their value.

Harry/Charlie on their own= 9
Kerr in VFL = 0
Total output in this scenario= 9

Kerr in AFL = 7
Traded in gun mid/ small forward = 8
Total output in this scenario = 15

Obviously that's all a hypothetical and there are other factors to consider, but if the total output of the team were to improve would SOS pull the trigger?

Hypothetically, What IF Adelaide said, here’s Bryce Gibbs back for a third or fourth round pick, but you (Carlton) take over his contract. Would we do it?
