Well that must have been a loooong afternoon today, thank god I was asleep! 20 pages of posts since I went to bed, right on the heels of one naughty tweet from a supposed insider to the Saints claiming a dog of a deal was struck for Hilly and it was just the paperwork to be submitted. Belly’s head was on a platter and a meltdown of gigantic proportions was just starting to take shape in this thread.

Did we all play nicely?

I haven’t read the last 20 pages (yet) but geez I bet it’s got the kitchen sink of collective emotions.... especially now that I’ve caught up on the news that the Tweet was a crock of shyte!

Inclined to agree.

I have to admit I've not been a close watcher, but his most recent stats suggest he rarely finds a heap of the ball, and from what I can gather, the quality of his disposal doesn't make up for having regular sub 20 possession games.

There is obviously scope for development and improvement, and he may have been played out of position at St Kilda, but I'm wary of our recent propensity to add in fringe players hoping that we'll strike gold.

His biggest weakness is that he’s soft.

We've replaced 2 power pillars in Lyon and Rosich with a single power in Bell. I hope my negativity is going to be egg on my face but the last 6 months have been horrid.

Yep, seriously what are the chances that pick 10 or another mid range draft pick are going to be of Hill's quality even in a few years? Plus a mediocre player thrown in, great. It's a deal you take for an un-contracted player wth no other choice, not one with 2 damn years left on it. What's the point of signing blokes up long term, front loaded iirc on big money when they can just leave when they feel like it? If he done his knee and could never play again this season the club would have had to pay all his money out but the contract as far as keeping them on as they signed up for is almost worthless these days.

Any thoughts on trading next years first for this year. By all accounts the compromised nature of next years draft means they are a premium and 2nd not much. Unless you have a bunch of academy players to bring in. Like us.

it all completely depends what Bell wants from the draft, if they want Stephens (which i'm sure they do), then they're not going to serve him up to another team on a platter

Yup. It sucks, and no picks could replace what he brings. It's not on Bell here that we'll settle for a shit offer. It's completely triggered by Hill and an environment where players have too much power irrespective of their contracts

I really would like us to try and trade back in to the first round for a third pick before w have to pick up Henry. Potentially trade two second round picks next year to get a pick around the 12-14 mark. That way hopefully get Stephens with 7, Robertson with 10 and then a slider with the 12-14 pick. Then use the pick 22 plus change to get Henry when the bid comes along. May or may not be wishful thinking however

As things stand Geelong have more picks than available list spots. They'll be looking to trade the other way.

Losing players like Neale and Hill hurt but it happens to other clubs as well.

Besides, when the shoe is on the other foot we are only too happy to poach contracted players. Its the nature of the beast.

Hill is being dragged back over east by his partner and the lure of the big bucks. It is what it is. Get the best deal for the club and move on.

If things pan out as expected tomorrow then the ledger for this draft period would be something like:

Out : Bhill, Langdon, Pick 26, 2020 4th
In: Pick 10, Pick 22, 2 x 2020 2nd Round, Pick 79, Acres, Aish

I reckon that a reasonable result

Give us 4 picks from next years 2nd round. To upgrade 22 into 10ish. That would be genius.
