AFL unveils Gold Coast assistance package

The AFL has handed the Gold Coast Suns an unprecedented package of help, including extra draft picks over the next three years.
The Suns will get a priority pick, giving them selections one and two in the national draft this year plus an extra at the end of the 2019 first round.
They will get a pick in the middle of the first round in 2020 - currently pick 11 - and an end-of-first-round pick in 2021.

AFL have made it very clear, the Suns will be playing finals and push for a flag footy before the Crows with this package.

That was my first thought. We will get two parts fu** all for our losses, but those first will end up in Vic.

Probably be a part of the next Victorian Fairytale the AFL wants to promote at the time in 3-4 years time.

Poor Carlton been without a flag since '95. I can see it easily happening.

Imagine the brutal midfield dominance of Cripps, Rowell, Anderson, Walsh in 2023.

Quality response Fages, crikey why say anything

When it comes to AFL policy on the run that negatively impacts the Crows, these decisions are very easy for the league to make because there is:
- No push back from the club
- No negative attention in the media
- No meaningful push back from fans (we all still rock up regardless)

Just watching an old episode of On The Couch and bloody hell, Brian Lake is in a bloody bad way.

Was never a fan of his during his playing days with the Dogs and Hawks but hope he never ends up harming himself in a deadly fashion.

Seems to be doing it very tough right now.

Was his recent issues more self inflicted than anything else?

Something happened in the last few days?

We didnt even make a statement from the position of the club's interests.

Why the **** is our club giving releases about the AFL's interests? That's not your job, fight for ours.

What the f*** does he mean we won’t know what effect it will have on the club until the trade and draft process is done?

The specific outcome won’t be known til then, but the effect is obvious: we have been pushed down the draft order. Our draft pick is worth less, regardless of the outcome. It has restricted our ability to draft a player we might want or trade the pick for players or picks. WE ARE WORSE OFF, ON ANY INTERPRETATION.

He says they made representations to the AFL. How did he manage to do that if he doesn’t know what the Crows opinion on the change is?

Totally unacceptable

Importantly we were not presented with all the variables when we undertook a live trade and exchange of draft picks, which IMO would have made us consider the deal and its fallout.

There is a total lack of transparency here.

I think the real meaning might be that we're looking to draft someone who isnt a clear number three. I.e. we'll get our guy anyway.

I actually think that's why we won't get practical value from the pick trade though. There's a real likelihood that we'll end up taking someone that would have been available later anyway. And in which case...
