There’s only one that we’ll be front loading and that’s B Crouch 😉
Surely we’d use up all the cap space we are clearing. (I don’t believe he’ll come at all) but even if Grundy came he wouldn’t be on the books until 2021

I agree, if we’re to get Grundy it has to be on the terms that he wants to come home and not a hefty contract. I doubt it’ll happen and I think we’re better served targeting Luko, Rankine and Hately. You could probably get all three for the price of Grundy at the moment. (In salary cap terms)

I really hope we don’t do anything with Brad. We have a really inexperienced side. Even with Nicks on board there is every chance that we finish bottom 4 next season. That means Brad’s FA compo will be a top 5 pick. He probably isn’t worth that in an open trade, so it’s a rare opportunity to make the FA system work for us in a big way. For a club that is a few years away it’s the smart move for us imo.
I can't see us finishing bottom 4 - we haven't lost anything from this year other than Keath, and I see Doedee as an upgrade on that.
Plus we will play some better players than we had in the team for a chunk of the year

I think you and I see this year very differently :) I think we were a bottom 4 team based on the last half of the season. Whereas bottom 4 teams like Carlton went past us.

I'm expecting that the 2nd half of the year was a results of internal issues, which should be better this year (not resolved) given the changes made over the off season.

Melbourne, GC, Swans, North, Freo and possibly Port all below us IMO. I don't see any of them getting better through the trade period, plus we won't be playing Sauce, Douglas, etc.

Good point on Sauce and Douglas. Plus the game style we played was just horrific.

I guess for me it comes down to Tex. is he cooked, or is he going to come back strong. I pinned our hopes of the last couple of years. I think him at his best is what made our forward line elite under Teague. But to me he has just fallen off a cliff. I know he ended up with 2 goals a game, which in and itself is very good. But he just wasn’t in the game, apart from those couple of kicks where he kicked goals. I just see him as pretty much a liability now. Too slow and immobile.

Really, I see our forward line as being a couple of years away from being fully functional and deadly. I can see it happening, but unfortunately I feel that the peices of the puzzle that will make it awesome have not been given games yet. Apart from Fog, you have Ned, McAdam, EH and/or Frampton. Also, I am not a big fan of Stengle at this stage. Too slow imo.

In terms of midfield, I think we are pretty B-grade in there. Crouch boys are good honest players that find the footy. But I don’t think they do much damage. I can’t wait to see Jones and Milera spend more time in the midfield though.

I am really looking forward to a difficult year of footy with a lot of losses, but I just can’t see us being that different a side to where we were in the last half of this year. I think you have to give due respect that other teams can and will improve as well.

I'm hoping we show some mongrel and heart for the jumper. The manner of some of our losses this year was disgusting. We need to want to bloody win.
Also some kind of game style that isn't chippy-chippy backwards then handball it to feet of covered player followed by bomb it to oppositions advantage.

All Brad's Christmases came at once. Frontloaded to buggery.

There must be something on the cards next year. Even we can't possibly spread what we've cleared over our current list. Surely.
When you look at next years list not a lot of money being freed up, Most are on Average to below-average pay, and the ones on higher wages are keepers in Brown, With B Crouch and Milera looking to get large increases
2021 is when we need some money, M Crouch, Liard, Smith all Restricted free agents. Along with Fogarty, Doedee, ROB, and maybes in McAdam Stengle, The big money being freed maybe Tex, Gibbs, Lynch, Talia, the rest are average to below-average payments.

What I saw in the last half was an old slow team not playing for each other, while we had 5 x 1st rd selection spending time in the SANFL or injured.
Will adding those kid make a difference time will tell, my answer is yes along with a Gibbs who want to play again. and I have not even looked at McAdam, Stengle or that bunch of 2nd rounders who went well of the half backline.
Yea the Kids will be up and down, but we still have that core of older players capable of playing good football on every line.
we will not be top 4 but we also will not be bottom 4.

Yes, it will make a difference. But how soon. I think it takes some time. We will be seeing quite a few players go from pretty much 0 games to say 10-15 games. All at the same time.

Think it takes some time. We see young, talented but inexperienced teams in the AFL every year. They are usually bottom 4. It’s just our turn imo. Can’t wait either. Looking forward to seeing these young players next season.
