The compensation pick is base on the new contract (Length of contract and Payment of the contract) and by the age of the player.
Age generally means the high end of the 5 levels available compensations levels,
A 2-year contract put it in the 4-5 level = end of 2nd or 3rd.
If he on good money for 2 years then it could go down to level 3 = 2nd round comp pick.

Have you not paid any attention to past examples?

As Jackster says, maybe, just maybe, if GWS want to preserve their FA compo they might trade a late, late pick

But you cannot look at past history and say we’ll get anything with a straight face.

Ok maybe you can, but ordinary people wouldn’t

Perfect backup. Very s**t, so extremely cheap. Break glass in case of emergency type
I’d rather a developing ruck with obvious talent than burning salary cap on a player we don’t ever want to play for us as it gives us no options to improve our list if ROB goes down.
At least if a young player gets 10 games into him he looks like a future player we could one day have leading the ruck.
Plus free agent Grundy next season and ROB likely goes to Pies leaving us with no good ruck prospects on our list.

If Sauce goes we need a backup ruck.
Was impressed with Strachen last week when he rucked against Jack Hayes, Could be OK as Back up,
But Jacobs Moving, they may need Hunter again if they go with another young kid in the draft, or they have plans for Grundy as a free agent.

Kieren Strachan, come on down!

Do you know how many Restricted Free Agents have move clubs without Compensation?
And I Was using the previous example. Daniel Wells.
Daniel Wells - His base is less than $500,000 a season and he was 31 when he signed with Collingwood. 2nd rd pick

Considering we don't have anything past Round 2 in the draft currently even a 3rd/4th round pick for Sauce can help. We got Stengle for a 4th rounder last year, it's not heaps, but you can at least do something with it, even if you're just sending it to a team like Geelong for someone like Zac Smith as ruck backup for ROB.

Though given how the AFL work, i'm expecting them to judge Sauce fully on this year and say he only played 5 games, so he's not worth anything.

If he goes to GWS, they would probably do it via trade (ie 5th round pick) instead of FA so as not to affect their Coniglio compo.

Geelong did similar when we recruited JPod.

If Sam Jacobs signs with GWS as a RFA, it really limits what they can do with his salary. They basically have to pay him every cent they two parties agree on. They can not front or back load it.

The 2 idiots on tripe M Adelaide, jars and Lewis were talking to Tom Rockcliff and Port Adelaide moving a few players salaries around and he said due to him signing as a RFA, they could not do anything with his salary.

Therefore, I think you might be right and trade a pick in the 80’s or 90’s for Sam Jacobs to give them some flexibility with his salary.

Makes sense, no way would they extinguish Coniglio compo when Sauce would come pretty cheap. Just throw us a 3rd and we’ll get out of your way.

They won’t submit an RFA offer unless they match for Coniglio.

Harry Dear is the type of back up I’d like to have. It’s a given that the back up won’t be providing much in the way if quality ruckwork and hit outs to advantage. I think there’s more value in being aggressive in the contest and mobile while just look8ng to minimise opponents hitout to advantage.

Or GWS Keep Coniglio and Kelly and get Jacobs thru RFA systems.
Either way, the Crows get something for him if he moves.
And anything above a late 2nd adds value to the Crows. As it stands today not counting Compensation picks we have 3 picks under 30, and nothing until 6th rd.

Conoglio’s gone though isn’t he? Only doubt is where to and by what mechanism.
