I just don’t think he’s the right fit for us at all tho

He’s kinda flat footed and that’s the last thing we need in a mid or hbf

Yeah im not suggesting picking him up, unless he falls real late, but he should be drafted. A lot of clubs could use his skills

Does anyone know what yr Glenelg became aligned to crows and not us?

Theyve essentially always been aligned to Adelaide ever since the State FS rules came into play.

I think Edwards is an upgrade on Schofield though
We do need midfielders with good skills
He was projected to go 1st round early on so must have some upgrade there
We could use a few more midfielders with boak and Rotcliffe getting old and who knows if drew will get on the park

I’d also like James Rowe if he’s available for a late pick or rookie
Another dangerous small forward option especially with Motlop not really performing and another that could help push butters and rozzee into the midfield

Ah ok I thought certain Glenelg ex players kicked if about being aligned to us?

Glenelg were originally aligned to Port but a group of Bay players lead by Ross Gibbs forced a change.

Can't remember when exactly but it was prior to 2006 because Ross was afraid Bryce would be drafted to Port.

Glenelg and West swapped around to get the Bays aligned with the crows.

Then Ross was found to have fallen short of the required number of games and Bryce wound up at Carlton. He would have been eligible for Port.

I see Edwards becoming one of those half backs who racks up 30 touches every week without ever significantly impacting games. Like Lloyd or Laird. Don’t think he’ll be a midfielder at AFL level but still a fairly safe bet particularly for a side like Adelaide in full rebuild.

Is there any chance Schofield has been holding back these past two years, or has been held back significantly because of injury, such that we get a massive surprise by how good he is when he gets onto our list?

I've tried to watch as much footage of him as possible this year, including the PAC vs Henley High game, and I just don't see him making it at AFL level.
Everything Scofield does well should translate seamlessly to AFL level. I have no idea how much his persistent ankle injuries have effected his form but if he’s fit for a full AFL preseason I think you are in for a pleasant surprise on talent level.

They did. They were aligned to us for about three days before the sanfl changed it

Hope so. Would be handy if he can develop into a really good wingman as Durrsma evolves into more of a centre square mid.

Crows customers seem to think Rooch had something to do with Ross Gibbs being found short of the required number and that now it has come home to roost with Daisy Borlase also being ineligible - "thanks to Rooch". I don't know how much of this is true - maybe Rooch did point out the Escort Cup games factor with Gibbs, but the AFL's rules are what they are and Daisy/James miss out for father/son. The born-in-Egypt farce is a whole other story though.

Wasn't Rooch. Andrew Capel ran the story, even won an award for it, but he picked it up from this site.

The discussion had been going on here for a while. A couple of us were adamant that Ross couldn't have played the number of games in the allotted timeframe.

RussellEbertHandball can back this up.

Geez - how ill informed are Crows customers, eh? ;)

Ironically there’s good reason to consider that if Ross didn’t **** around that Bryce could have had a much better afl career at port and never run into the troubles he did in Vic.

Maybe him - or Corey Gault, as Maggies top ups?

See Fahey-Sparks on another poster's response on this thread - as a possible Power rookie.
Sorry to intrude but i have to agree 100% on fahey-sparks. Was at unley oval in october last year with my young kids having a kick and he was there by himself running laps lap after lap and we got talking to him and he was very generous with his time. Great lad and it was obvious he was pushing hard on his fitness out of season and seemed very driven to cement a league spot which he did this year. If either SA club were to take a punt on him as a rookie i think it would be a shrewd move as he can play and has the tools to be an effective forward that can ruck.

Thanks Mrs Fahey, or was it Sparks?

I think Rooch asked the AFL to confirm he had played enough games, after reading the debate that started on this board re Martin Leslie's boys, then Brett Ebert, briefly mentioned Gibbs here and then moved it to the Adelaide board where the Gibbs matter was raised and debated for over 200 pages IIRC. Capel then wrote the story.

I recently wrote about it in the Father Son thread in September that if you looked at the simple maths of 25 games played each year if you made the GF and no injuries he wouldn't have qualified under the AFL rules at the time.

Crows still yet to nominate Borlase or Newchurch.

They are only planning to use 4 picks so they could be out early on depending on pick trades.

Which means they wouldn't match a later pick for Borlase.

According to draftguru the crows have 31 players + 3 rookies = 34 on their list after starting with 44 then 10 players leaving so far since end of the season. See;
2020 list summary https://www.draftguru.com.au/lists/2020
AFL delisting page https://www.afl.com.au/news/retirements-and-delistings
2021 current list https://www.draftguru.com.au/lists/2021

So if they don't cut any rookies they can have between 36 and 38 on their main list and add 1 more cat A rookie.

They have picks 1, 9, 22, 23, 40, 56 and 66. So they have to draft at least 4 players + Hately in the PSD for free to get to 36 on the main list.

If Port try to pick up Borlase with say pick 73 we got from Essendon in the Fantasia trade, which will probably turn into about pick 58 and matching bid picks are eliminated, they will match us even though they might pass on picks 40, 56 and 66 which might become 37, 45 and 54 or they could even trade them out for picks next year.

If Port were to bid for Borlase at say pick 58 they will match and pick 58 is a free hit as pick 58 is 170 pts which is less than the 197 pts discount on matching bids after pick 18.

If Port (or others) don't bid he could go onto their rookie list as their 4th rookie player.

Supposedly GWS are pissed off about Hately getting to the PSD and a free hit to Adelaide that they will make them match bids on their NGA and F-S players.
