Depends what you mean by “high priced”... using the current formula, brad going to another club on $700k Or more per year would net us a pick directly after our 1st.. if our first pick is pick 1 then it will be pick 2Correct. Can some of those posters who think we'll get great compo suggest which club/s are in the market for a high priced Brad?
Gold Coast certainly aren't and they don't have cap room after their off season recruiting and burgeoning list of guns that need re-signing.
GWS missing finals are they.So where we stand atm, if one of the 2 of O'Driscoll or Trew were available at say the GWS pick we have and we were to get Thilthorpe with our first selection, then we end up with a great key position talent and 2 strong mids in Edwards and one of the two mentioned - and that is not to say we may not be able to further increase our draft haul with trading / bundling up picks to maybe grab another strong mid..It could set us up going forward
Is this like that time Melbourne were sniffing around Mackay and we all got excited only for us to re-sign him hence 400kay was bornDraft haul incoming. Hilarious re Atkins.

Not really.. I dont think the clubs think like us supporters. You can bet your ass we will match anything up to the point required to ensure first-round compo.
The major problem right now is Brad isn't playing up to the standard required to get paid that much...
GWS are in an interesting spot - having lost a couple in a shortened season it makes losses from here very important. Not saying they will and i was expecting them to be right up there but the way they have looked who knows?GWS missing finals are they.
I reckon both go top 10.
One is big, athletic and fast, attacks the contest, but also knows how to play outside and behind the ball.
The other is big and strong, is an elite extractor and a tackling machine, with elite hands and feet.
No one in Victoria thinks that is because Brad has lost his talent. They just think we're a shitshow. If they can get someone with his ability without needing to spend any trade capital, they'll do it.You can bet your ass we will match anything up to the point required to ensure first-round compo.

Seeing the year we're having, no one is going to begrudge us getting a good pick when our best player leaves us as well.Fair enough. I get to your point, but mine was that there is definitely some arbitrary fudge in the calculation and an ability of the powers that be to ignore the math if they deem it appropriate.
If the mathematics came out as pick 9 on a borderline contract, I think that wouldn't raise too many hackles and would be waved through.
IMO (unscientifically, and maybe paranoidly) the prospect of getting picks 1 and 2 are more likely to trigger an over-ride and have the band changed.

Gibbs was a lot older than brad.. brad is 26... gibbs was 4 years older when he came to us..Let's hope so, we fell for the same trick for Gibblets.
'He's a great player just in a bad team'
I think clubs will look at someone like Atkins and offer him a reasonable salary and contract, because outside mids who can accumulate are reasonably rare and he has a good showreel of when he's played well (and his shit games will be because of the club, not him). What steaming crock of poo from Tom Morris, Atkins rated by other clubs? idiots, Hawkins a juicy two year deal elsewhere, he's nearly cooked. These guys have to write something and expose themselves as really knowing bugger all.
Wonder if we could get more than a future 4th for Atkins?
He has hawthorn type player written all over him. Clarkson would get him playing proper footy again just like hendoI think clubs will look at someone like Atkins and offer him a reasonable salary and contract, because outside mids who can accumulate are reasonably rare and he has a good showreel of when he's played well (and his sh*t games will be because of the club, not him).
He's a free agent - could we hope for band 3 compo? Someone might mildly overpay.
Umm, Gibbs was 28 when he came here, so unless my maths is as bad as yours, that would make it 2 years difference, not 4.Gibbs was a lot older than brad.. brad is 26... gibbs was 4 years older when he came to us..
And brad shows a hell of a lot more than what gibbs ever did..
We completely f’ed that whole trade up. What a sliding doors moment..
There’s no doubt the bloke has talent in spades.. when he uses it and doesn’t try and do to much (like when he gets caught with the ball trying to evade 1 too many tacklers)He has hawthorn type player written all over him. Clarkson would get him playing proper footy again just like hendo
Yep, true that. They'll offer him $350k a year for four years, and seem like geniuses. He has hawthorn type player written all over him. Clarkson would get him playing proper footy again just like hendo
My bad.. I thought he was 29 and turning 30 in his first year.. still, given they say 27 is peak year for Midfielders, Gibbs was past that and as we’ve all witnessed, has fallen away badly since!..Umm, Gibbs was 28 when he came here, so unless my maths is as bad as yours, that would make it 2 years difference, not 4.
BTW, Gibbs was really good in 2018, but since then, well we all know
Umm...is it just ne or does this sound like what was called draft tamering a few years agoDraft haul incoming. Hilarious re Atkins.

Or is that called being an unrestricted free agent?Umm...is it just ne or does this sound like what was called draft tamering a few years ago
ANDREW GAFF
Status: Unrestricted free agent
As reported by Jay Clark in the Herald Sun last year, a clause in Gaff’s long-term deal allows him to exercise his rights at the end of 2020 and walk to a club of his choice.
