I believe it’s weak in genuine top end talent, as in Matthew Rowell or Connor Rozee level talent. There is none.

Have to say given the club circumstances I'd be surprised if we'd use a pick in the 1st or even the 2nd round on a player that's had 2 knee recos already and the uncertainty around that plus the fact he won't play any footy next year. I won't be overly surprised if he goes undrafted this year especially if lists are reduced, there's always next year when clubs will have a better handle on his recovery etc.
2 knee reco’s before your 18th birthday is going to impact the kid physically and mentally. I tend to agree that many recruiters will take him off their board now. 2020 is not the year to run unnecessary risks for them.

Surely he'd get taken as a rookie though. Top 10 KPF talents don't exactly grow on trees.

So honest question, how are GWS really travelling right now?

I’ll admit, I’m desperately looking to see cracks in their armour that probably aren’t their, but those 2 losses to teams they should have beaten was certainly interesting.

And now with Taranto out, and Kelly, Whitfield and Greene all Tests they are up against a pretty in form Collingwood, and Wildcard team in Hawthorn, and the top of the table Port.

Is it possible that they come out of round 6 at 1-5?

Even if they are 2-4, in a 17 game season that’s gonna be a tough run home to make finals.

Let's hope so.

Theoretically, if we got pick 7/8 from GWS. Would we do a straight swap for Hately?

Unless Gollant beefs up a lot in the next year, we're really needing that big body/contested midfielder. The crouch bro's just aren't working at the moment.
I really like Hately, I have since the draft I would strongly consider it. But to be honest I haven't done anywhere near enough research into the upcoming draft to know if the cost would justify the trade.

I'd be gunning for one of Hately/Perryman/Caldwell as all three are out of contract.

That’s a Hately or one of Trew/O’Driscoll question.

Tough to answer.

No way would pick 7 (for the debate assuming GWS finish in a position for us to get pick 7) for Hately happen - that is hugely in GWS' favor considering he cost them less than that and has not been able to consistently break into the team. At best, maybe pick 7 for Hately and GWS 2nd round pick but even then, I would be looking to try and go our 2nd round pick for him straight up..if we are after him

Do you mean O’Connor? I can’t ever see Gollant being an inside mid.

If Hateley isn’t getting a regular game then pick 25 will do it.

(If he is getting a regular game then there’s no way he joins us)

Perryman is a star and I’d trade pick 7 in a heartbeat. If we had cap space.

Hold on, why wouldn't we have any capspace? I still don't understand how we are currently paying our 95% TPI, even with half of JJ and Betts salary on the books.

And that doesn't even account for the inevitable 2020 offseason list cull.

Dare I say it we could well have the North Melbourne Warchest by the start of tradeweek

I’d argue the king twins are as talented as Connor Rozee. Particularly Max. In his draft year he was getting talked about as the #1 pick and a generational forward in the same breath as Rowell was getting spoken about as a midfielder. He has that type of talent.

I haven’t seen much of Max but Ben is a superstar in the making; a quicker, more agile version of Tom Lynch (Richmond).

If Max is better he’s going to be an all-time great.

I didn't necessarily mean pick 7, and I think they'll finish higher on the ladder than their current position anyway.

I'd be trying for a straight swap for Laird.

Short answer: No.

Longer answer: Hately hasn't become a best 22 player at GWS, and by that hasn't increased in value. Equally, if he was to become best 22, our chances of attracting him are none unless we were going to put in a 500k+ offer. After all, trading GWS for us is a massive step down at the current time. If he remains on the outer, we should be looking at pick 20 or 22 for a swap.

AFL rules is the reason we are spending 95% of our TPI. It's the minimum clubs are allowed to spend.

I hope everyone is prepared for the Hately>Port scenario.

Our trump card here is money. We can blow out any offer from Port, especially seeing Rozee/Butters/Duursma are all probably due for a payrise in the next year or two.

Absolutely not.

Very easy actually, a mid that generally only gets a game when their proven guns are out injured is not a Pick 7.
