That one was on Pyke. Apparently Hamish wanted English (Given how he’s Developing, will surpass ROB very soon, if not already). However Pyke wanted speed (ie Gooch).I Personally reckon the First Round of the 2016 draft is where we got it all wrong. I remembered screaming out for Jarrod Berry and we got Gallucci and thought hmmmm ok.
But Here are all the picks straight after our pick.
16 – Todd Marshall
17 – Jarrod Berry
18 – Sam Powell- Pepper
19 – Tim English
20 – Isaac Cumming (GWS academy player)
21 – Will Hayward
22 – Jordan Ridley
23 – Alex Witherden
24 – Cedric Cox
25 – Ben Long
26 – Brendan Parfitt
27 – Zac Fisher
28 – Patrick Lipinski
29 – Shai Bolton
I am a big fan of Hamish I always have been but think sometimes he tries to get too clever and smart with his picks. Sometimes they pay off and sometimes they don’t but I am worried if we get some low draft picks that they could be wasted.
Gooch wasn't a horrible selection, he would have to be one of the worst handled players at our club in recent times. That one was on Pyke. Apparently Hamish wanted English (Given how he’s Developing, will surpass ROB very soon, if not already). However Pyke wanted speed (ie Gooch).
Guess who won?

He might not have been a horrible selection but I don't think he's been hampered by our handling to any great degree. He's merely failed to fully grasp the opportunities he's been given at AFL level. When relegated to the SANFL it's generally been on not delivering enough at AFL level and he's never really dominated SANFL games to the level that screamed pick me. I know it's popular on this board but I disagee, I will agree he has the tools in his kit to be a decent AFL player but they have very rarely been on display consistently across full games....sure he'd no doubt have a decent highlight reel if you pieced his best efforts together in one highlight reel but that don't cut it.Gooch wasn't a horrible selection, he would have to be one of the worst handled players at our club in recent times.
He's got all the talent to be a very good AFL player, and if we let him go I'm confident he will be.
Was discussing a point against Hamish and not Gooch. Like you said he looked great on paper, it was just AFC that screwed him over (not giving him the right opportunities).Gooch wasn't a horrible selection, he would have to be one of the worst handled players at our club in recent times.

Where did he play the majority of his games at SANFL? Did he get real opportunities to play as a genuine midfielder or did he mirror his AFL role as the HF graveyard position? He might not have been a horrible selection but I don't think he's been hampered by our handling to any great degree. Some midfield but that was rightly taken by Wilson and Poholke.Where did he play the majority of his games at SANFL? Did he get real opportunities to play as a genuine midfielder or did he mirror his AFL role as the HF graveyard position?

He's had plenty of opportunities at SANFL level in the midfield/wing/half forward, the reality is he's never dominated at any level since he was drafted, certainly not befitting of a 1st round draft pick. I'd argue his best form in the SANFL was in his 1st year.Where did he play the majority of his games at SANFL? From the interviews he's given he doesn't seem particularly switched on or motivated. Has all the physical attributes for sure. He's had plenty of opportunities at SANFL level in the midfield/wing/half forward, the reality is he's never dominated at any level since he was drafted, certainly not befitting of a 1st round draft pick. Going on what Godden said a while back it seems his application was in question?

Horrible decision now in hindsight. That one was on Pyke. Apparently Hamish wanted English (Given how he’s Developing, will surpass ROB very soon, if not already). However Pyke wanted speed (ie Gooch).

Maybe.Horrible decision now in hindsight.
That ****ing moustache. Something not quite right running with that thing. English to me seems pretty average. Berry was the play.
I agree that Smith>>>>>>Walsh a view I've held right from seeing them both play on the basis Smith is far more damaging and penetrating with his ball useWhat a silly post.
You agree with him?
Walsh is a young star, but plays for a sh*te club.
How anyone doesn't have Ben and Max at 1 and 2 is beyond me then Smith at 3Smith has moved to number 1. Blakey 2. Wheels are starting to fall of Rozee as they are Walsh.

Walsh has that Kane Cornes / Tom Rockliff look to him. Gets lots of stats but doesn't really hurt youI agree that Smith>>>>>>Walsh a view I've held right from seeing them both play on the basis Smith is far more damaging and penetrating with his ball use
Because Port have Rozee and he is from SA...thus, he has to be #1How anyone doesn't have Ben and Max at 1 and 2 is beyond me then Smith at 3
I suppose it gets down to a Dusty/Danger vs a Josh Kennedy/Buddy Franklin. I'm going with the formerHow anyone doesn't have Ben and Max at 1 and 2 is beyond me then Smith at 3
Swap clubs and Walsh is miles ahead of Smith.I agree that Smith>>>>>>Walsh a view I've held right from seeing them both play on the basis Smith is far more damaging and penetrating with his ball use
Before Max got injured before the draft I had him at 1, Walsh 2, Ben 3.How anyone doesn't have Ben and Max at 1 and 2 is beyond me then Smith at 3
You keep believing that, I'm confident time will prove my original assessments of Smith vs Walsh correct. Being at Carlton doesn't seem to have impinged on Patrick Cripps's development too much or if it has how bloody good would he be playing for a half "decent" club?Swap clubs and Walsh is miles ahead of Smith.
Don't underestimate how much damage sh*te clubs can do to a kid.
All things being equal Walsh > Smith.
