Goes by the name Matthew Allison

There are also clubs keeping close tabs on rangy 192cm forward Matthew Allison. He plays as a high half-forward and has good aerobic capacity, in a similar vein to Hawthorn star Jack Gunston, and dominated the club's two practice matches earlier this season

31. GWS - Matt Allison

Strange pick IMO, but I'll he honest I don't know a lot about him.

POSITION: Tall Forward/Wing

DRAFT ANALYSIS: “Allison is a tall utility with terrific endurance, able to present as a key forward or ply his trade as a uniquely versatile wingman.” – Michael Alvaro

Calder Cannons prospect Matthew Allison is one in a number of Victorians to have shot onto the AFL Draft radar in 2020 despite not being able to contribute any top-age football. The 194cm utility managed 10 NAB League games among an improving Cannons list last year, while also earning selection in the Vic Metro Under 17 Futures side. He did not quite make the cut for the most recent AFL Academy intake, but was able to showcase his best traits during a couple of promising preseason trial games, where he averaged seven marks between the outings to further capture the attention of recruiters. While he predominantly proved his wares as a deep-lying key forward on those occasions, Allison was also seen on the wing as a bottom-ager and looked poised to rotate between the two posts this season. Such is his versatility, the Cannons were also prepared to play Allison across half-back, with plenty of potential to harness and an exciting base to develop.

STRENGTHS:

  • Endurance
  • Overhead marking
  • Versatility
  • Upside

Soooo.... he's Josh Battle? Maybe?

What does that matter if he wouldn't have been picked until the 50's and we have a pick around there?
But you don’t know that. 3 or 4 guys were picked up earlier rated in the 50’s. This year is going to have some stars from lower picks and failures from top pick more than the last 10 years.

I didn't say I did. I said we had a pick in the range that he was projected to be drafted in. Just like you my opinion is a complete guess.

How annoying is this as a TV spectacle?

Watching the clock tick all the way down to 5 minutes - only for a pick swap to be announced. Then the next club deliberates for another 5 minutes, only to select an academy product which is bid on, then take another 5 minutes for the live selection.

I vote that if a club is trading up to the pick, they should already have the selection ready
