This is Part 1

The thread is continued in part 2:

Dusty was actually a gun forward early days, just lacked the tank. Got up to stupid things off the field, like hanging out with criminals and thought he deserved more money. Clubs knew he was a damn good player, but his off field antics scared them, GWS gave him a tour and knew it was a bluff.

Dusty and Hogan are completely different stories. Dusty, stupid antics and all, was still playing damn good footy. Hogans on field performances have been ok at best for two years straight.

Writing Hogan off? No
Can Hogan still be a good player? Yes
2018 good? Personally, I don't think so. Don't think he's gonna be A grade material anymore.

If he becomes a good, reliable, consistent B grade forward I'll be absolutely thrilled. He needs a massive off/pre season mentally and physically, but more so mentally because physical attributes have never been an issue
My comments were more about player club relationships rather than a comparison of the players. Some feel that Hogan should be moved on, as did supporters at Richmond re Dusty.

Hogan works hard on the track, nobody denies that & I really do hope he looks at Dardy & gets an insight of a player who looks to have lost his opportunity at setting himself up through football because he didn’t take it seriously.

Tactics in football are taking away your A grade forwards, you have got to be a special talent to get to that level, so as you say if he remains consistent & motivated it gives me hope that he becomes a solid contributor to our success.

I reckon there’s going to be some pretty earnest discussion between player & coach over the next week or so to see how committed he is likely to be.

Me too
Because the problem we've got now is that no one is taking Hogan anyway .

Incredibly if Hogan declared he wanted a fresh start at a third club he'd have offers. Freo might get an early second round pick for him but his best is good enough, and KPF's sell tickets, that most clubs would want to know how serious he was about 2021 and beyond.

Still hoping his best games are ahead of him and that they'll be in purple.

He might get other offers but I dont think the $'s will nearly be as high as he is hoping for.

Think people are being short sighted with Hoges. He’s a gun player. Just needs a good run at it, which this year was not good for.

He’s building and will click, will coincide with our mids connection with the forwards. We won’t be having anything like these conversations by round 10 next year.

We don’t have the trade currency in the current draft... period.., unless we do a direct swap of Blakey for 2M Peter.. that I would do, but no draft picks!
You can have 2mp for free just paid his salary . Blakely not Sydney Blakey . Blakely no thanks . Dew had whorephobia written on his forehead.;)

Getting rid of Hogan is crazy talk.

Lobb and Taberner don't have great game IQ but Hogan has it in shades.

Hogan knows when and where to lead, and our other talls struggle with that.

When Hogan left Melbourne the other Demon tall forwards struggled.

The Lobb, Taberner and Lobb together nets us a 3-3 record, which includes the early loses to the Suns and Port.

My contention is that if we had the trio of tall forwards, we would have exposed the backline of the dogs like the Saints in the finals and could have won that game.

Was the worth the trade or cap space? Possibly not but we made our bed and now we just have to sleep in it.

Hogan potentially leaving has next to nothing to do with his football ability. I don't think anybody on here thinks we should turf him on that basis alone. It's all the baggage that comes with it that cause problems.

He isn't a thug at all. He is a good tackler because if he wasn't he'd struggle to get a game.

Problem is I think his shoulder is buggered so he can't even do his one wood properly anymore.

Brown isn't coming to be depth. He is better than Lobb and he'll get a proper offer from someone.

Also extremely unlikely that we'd play Tabs, Lobb and Brown because our forwardline would be diabolically slow.
Maybe thug isn't the right word, but he is the master of the cheap shot when the umpires aren't looking.

Bailey Dale has stagnated at the dogs. I always rated him. Would be good on the wing

How much is that real or over hyped?
It seems pretty real to me. Don’t like Garry Lyon but I thought his comments were telling after one of Hogan’s better games late in the season. Kept emphasising Hogan was a quality player “on the field, no problems with Jesse on the field”. Clearly insinuating he has problems off the field.
He would know exactly what was happening at Melbourne inner sanctum. He’s now 25/26 years old. Into the second half of his career and we are still talking about potential and how he’s a young man, he will mature etc etc.
Time and patience is running out, and it seems Freo feel the same.

Whats Shai Boltons contract situation? Kid is an absolute jet, and exactly what we need.

I’ve been saying this for years but I think he’s tied up to Rich and now he’s a regular and important part of their 22 I doubt he goes anywhere.

My hope is that Henry can become our equivalent over time.

We had an opportunity to get him, but we passed on trading for him because his so called lack of character.

Well I'm not in the club but given that Melbourne were happy to ship him, all of what both Lyons have said in the media and the crap that has happened here it doesn't take much to accept there are serious issues.

Does seem to be his own no1 ticket holder.

I remember Lyon saying that and he came off as a smug git. I'm sure there were problems but that reeked of Lyon flailing around in Melbourne's continued incompetence. Kept saying 'on the field' with a oh so subtle knowing look. 🙄

The trade is done. We have a troubled but talented player. We drop him now the investment is lost. Besides, I thought he looked good and hungry in the games he played. Could be better, but considering our forward line needs all the help it gets, I hope we don't fold to the rabid media that just wants to laugh at another freo trade fail.

I take Lyon at face value for that, he knew there were problems and now we do to.

The trade price is irrelevant at this point as is the media. It's all on Jesse (or possibly it's already too late, we don't know).

What is real is that Match Committee rated him behind Tabs and Lobb as a KPF mid-season. Not getting a game as KPF ahead of Lobb? Hmm
Hogan was injured and then the match committee made him earn the recall.

Sounds like good man management to me.

If we trade Hogan it will be for very little. Unless, we open cap space to go after a free agent (Cripps, lol).

I'd rather take the chance within reason.
