This is Part 1

The thread is continued in part 2:

giantroo posted it on the North board, not any real news, Hogan left quarantine days ago according to the West so article is kinda useless (this is just the bit related to him)

Brown is a natural replacement for departing free agent Joe Daniher at Essendon, while Melbourne may have to move on Tom McDonald to fit Brown in the salary cap at the Demons.

Tom’s brother Oscar is uncontracted for next season at the Demons, while Alex Neal-Bullen could also be moved on.

Fremantle is another club which could enter the frame for Brown as it weighs up what to do with Jesse Hogan.

The goal kicker will have talks with the Docks on his future when his quarantine ends this week.

Hogan was ordered to complete a 14-day hotel quarantine after he was caught having a female visitor over to his home last month.

Hogan has booted 18 goals in 19 games at Fremantle in the two years since he was traded from Melbourne as part of the deal which landed Steven May.

Hogan is contracted in the west for next year.

He'll pick one club and negotiations with that one club will start. You can't make him go wherever you want him to. Then the Roos will try get the best they can for a player that they have already shown the door.

I know all that, I just don't reckon the size of the contract will make the difference with any of the suitors. There won't be any significant gap in the financial bidding.

If that does happen, then yes, the destination club will have the upper hand in negotiations, but of course there's always a limit to that too.

Most clubs trade in good faith, and I don't see this being any different.

Don’t disagree with your logic but the phantom draft boards etc all suggest both of those guys would be a big reach at pick 28, or indeed the second round in general. Twomey has neither in his top 40. Interestingly he didn’t have Eddie ford in his top 40 either. I’d say there’s a fair chance Lane or Neale or maybe even both will be available in the rookie draft..
edit: just realised Neale is actually in Twomeys top 40..

The good judges have Neale and Lane in their top 40s...

How do you think they project in terms of being ready to play, and forward versus ruck ability? Marking?

One of the traps we end up with a purer ruck prospect like Meek is development ends up happening at wafl level unless injury hits. Could either Neale or Lane develop in a forward role earlier as cover for Lobb either injured or Lobb playing first ruck if Darcy injured?

I reckon the Phillips talk is the only genuine rumour so far. With the success of Aish which was Jlos idea, I could see that one happening.
A year ago I would feel good about trading for Phillips.

Considering we got Acres and Aish last year, Phillips doesn’t make sense to me.

What games have you watched of Neale this year Chris? Other than yesterday's I've found just one other so struggling to get a good read on him. I'm assuming you are basing your assessment on what WA officials are saying about him? I think on paper he looks great - mostly his potential given his athletic attributes. He did some good things on the weekend but imho didn't look top 40 worthy unless almost half the top 40 are from WA. He dropped a lot of marks you'd expect him to gobble up with those massive hands. I don't remember him winning many hit-outs and no hit-outs to advantage. And he often got muscled out of the rucking contest by guys he really shouldn't have been. He is a tidy kick though, did build into the game and I'm hopeful he'll have more impact in the second game.

Even if we grab Cox or Reid with our first pick I'd be happy grabbing Neale as a second developing tall prospect as well. Has anyone seen any more in game footage of him?

Like pretty much everyone in this draft, I've seen a lot less of them than in a normal year. So it's a lot of guessing.

I think Kalin Lane is the top ruck prospect from what I've seen (outside of Thilthorpe) but I also think he's only 50/50 to be drafted - list sizes, young rucks being undervalued. He reminds me a bit of Pete Ladhams from his draft year, who I really liked but went in the rookie draft. Good tap ruck, follows up strong. I can't imagine he'll be ready to play, definitely be behind Meek next year.

Shannon Neale I think goes in the national draft, somewhere in the 30-50 range - and that'll be on potential as an athletic ruck with high possession numbers relative to his position, not really on performance to date. His ruck work is behind Lane's, and he hasn't really shown a heap as a forward either. So I consider him a high ceiling project player. Again, I wouldn't expect him to play unless there were no other options - although I've been wrong about that before.

Does anyone actually have the link to justify the claim that Stephenson supports white supremacism?
The way the extreme left pile on with their cancel culture deplatforming ways, I wouldn't mind actually seeing evidence before condemning him.
As to the player Stephenson as opposed to the alleged neonazi Stephenson, he has regressed for some reason. Unless JLo has a clear and fixable reason why, he wouldn't be worth what it would cost to get him.
Why can't you just condemn him on rumour and suspicion like the rest of us?

He stood up for Fraser Anning in an Insta post. You can find what he wrote by Googling it - Ch 7 covered it. It's not fair to label him with that term but his decision to weigh in on it understandably raised some eyebrows and people are entitled to form their own opinions about him even if they may be unfair (just as his Insta post said ;)).

I think between that and getting a 22 match ban (12 suspended) for betting on the Pies it is pretty clear there are more than a few warning signs off the field on top of form issues that should make us steer well clear.

I was at the game for the first half, and Neale spent 75% of that as Full Forward, and his opponent was DGB.

He was generally out bodied in the marking contests.

Lane was on the same team, and did most of the rucking.

Neale did however chase and put pressure on which I thought was good.

Being an athletic tall, helps in growth potential, and putting on more muscle will assist in him holding his ground in contests.

If we are looking at him it’s as a developing FWD/RUC type, and certainly not as a specific Ruck, as he was again out bodied in those contests at times.

Neale has had the least development time in the Colts system of all the Rucks playing colts, and is younger than Lane who is an overager.

I’m with WTG, regardless of any rumours, there is more than enough flags regarding off field issues.

We really need to avoid these additional issues. Really seems a focus of JLo. We can for the time being commit to Jesse Hogan but no need to add Stephenson.

His forward pressure isn’t great he seems to pick and choose when to have a crack. Compare to Schultz (different player I know) but for all his limitations he really does have a decent crack and repeatedly achieved number of very critical run down tackles.

A zippy small forward would be handy. Perhaps that can be achieved through the likes of Henry or Western. Switta fully fit is another but we need a hybrid version of Switta with the recently delisted Matera. Switta needs the goal kicking nouse of Matera, whose forward pressure was average at best. Switta is definitely very good at pressure acts but seems to have difficulty kicking the ball much further than 25-30metres.
