This is Part 1

The thread is continued in part 2:

Are you joking? One has two top 7 finishes in clubs best and fairest. 6th in the season they made the grand final. Kicked 15 goals off the wing and averaged 25 touches. The other is Brett Bewley.
Phillips averaged 2 more disposals than Brett this year. Stats otherwise very similar.

They are stylistically similar. Phillips has a better history highlighted by 2018 but also hasn't been back to that level.

He is better but not by as much as you think as I said.

If you think Bewley is the same player as Phillips maybe I have been reading your joke Crowden posts wrong. Perhaps you really do think he’s a top 5 player in the comp.
That is a joke. Top 3.

He is so much better than Bewley I don't even understand how they are at all comparable. You don't think you overate our list? Ok then.

Phillips also had stints as a HFF this year which is not his forte and dented his stats compared to the years he was solely a wing.

Quality teams have quality depth. Period.
This is not some dichotomy where we either have Phillips and have depth or don't have Phillips and have no depth.

Most teams that have depth don't have Tom Phillips. True story.

They wouldn't be on the same wage because one is substantially better than the other.
I bet you the difference in ability is overestimated in the wage too. Which is precisely why the Pies are trying to shed him now.

So did Bewley and they were both as ineffective as each other.

I think this depends how much recent performance plays into your opinion. On this years form, Phillips is marginally better than Bewly, on prior years, he is significantly better. There is nothing to suggest he'll magically get back to his best

I think this is a redundant conversation anyway, I'd argue Bewly lost his best 22 spot by the end of the year. With Phillips, he has to displace Acres or Aish and I dont think he is clearly better than either of them. He's on 600k a year according to Pies fans, do you want to spend 600k next year on a guy not in the best 22? And I'll die on the hill that he is clearly best 22, he really isnt.

I'd take Phillips on the following criteria
1) It's a salary dump and we pay nothing more than a 4th round upgrade or something
2) We give him an extra year and reduce his salary
3) Delist Bewly at the same time

Feel like keeping Bewley on minimum wage and letting Frederick get some games (if required) is a better result.

Without any knowledge of our TPP, I don't think wing depth is where you want significant outlay. If we happen to have bulk space then your scenario seems ok.

No reason at all to think he can't get back to his 2018/2019 levels of football, of all the years for an off season to be an outlier 2020 is the best bet IMO. Even his 2017 season was better than anything we have at the moment on the wing.

Anyway, as you said the conversation is redundant anyway as nothing we write here will make a difference on him coming or not. But to try and compare Bewley to Phillips is insane and that's without mentioning Phillips is a year younger.

fu** me, no wonder they're in trouble. That's way overs.
Its probably Pies fans adding some sugar to justify their salary cap is fine once they dump him but it will also be decent because they re-signed him after his best ever year. Wouldnt be surprised if its 500-600k

Do you think Phillips plays over Acres and Aish?

As a pure wingman? Yeah, over both of them IMO. He has 3 season on the board playing the role at a superior level to either of those two.
Well that's the difference then. I wouldn't want him over Acres or Aish at this point.

If you think he is genuine B22 then it doesn't make sense to compare to Bewley.

If you think he is not a walk-up B22 then comparing to Bewley becomes relevant.

It was tongue in cheek, but I do think he is a quality quality winger.
Same.

It's the kicking. Same thing with Langdon. Reckon for most of the year our wing work was worse than 2019 overall, but I didn't miss the 3 shanks straight to the other blokes per game from Ed's side. Always feels so significant, especially for a team that struggles to score and gets butchered on turnover.
What a sh*t post.
I guess I must be the only person who can't post tongue in cheek. Thanks for the heads up, I'll be sure to run everything past you in future.
