This is Part 1

The thread is continued in part 2:

This alone is the reason this Crouch stuff is BS. Heard JL say about 5 times.

I know a number here think we have plenty of KPD but you can see what happened on the weekend and there are genuine concerns for Hamling/Pearce. Sam Taylor from the Giants - he is the one we are interested in. Also Brennan Cox is out of contract. He will likely re-sign and is a legit swingman but imagine if he comes to Bell and goes sorry mate it is time for me to head home. We then have a recuperating Hamling and Pearce who is very injury prone.

Forget the Crouch brothers. Our first and second picks for Sam Taylor and GWS First and second picks in return.

A back up ruckman if Meeks isn’t up to is also a list need along with Wing speed depth. Joel Western provides small forward speed and Walker HBF.
GWS' first and second picks are currently #28 and #46

So that trade is currently:
#5, #23 for Taylor, #28 and #46

Honestly, completely forgot he was AA, but at the end of this year, he will have been a fair way from that form for the last few years and been dropped from the bottom side this year, you wouldnt want to use a top 10ish pick on what he's been out putting the last couple of years.

Plenty of players have their best year before 25 and go backwards, he seems to be one of them

I don’t watch much Adelaide, but is he performing that bad?
2020 averaging 24.4 (short qtr)
2019 averaged 32.6
2018 averaged 32.2
2017 averaged 33

I get that his efficiency can be a bit hit and miss but these are pretty consistent numbers for an inside mid. he’s Also in a bad environment in a sinking ship.

given I don’t watch Adelaide, what’s the area he’s dipped in form?

wasn’t suggesting that would get it done obv, but I wouldn’t be that against it. he would be worth a pick around 7-12. Top 5 pick would be a big no no.

Wouldn’t take mid time away from Brayshaw Cerra or Tucker.
Serong he would, tho I think he’d stay in the 22
Valente has to crack the 22 first. He May or may not make it.
Matt Crouch got dropped to the seconds 2 weeks ago. He'd have to come home like a steam train to get traded for anything in the first round, let alone 7-12.

Pending list sizes I don't disagree that we need another KPD (preferrably O'Reilly would improve but not holding my breath), but I highly doubt it is going to be Taylor. Late round mature ager or late pick project.

Having said that, JL seems to be able to make undersized defence work so maybe we don't bother.

The team around him is toilet is the biggest change. Suddenly his disposals don't seem as advantageous to the Crows as they used to.

was he dropped to send a message?
Was his game droppable? I didn’t watch, but I know Nicks looked to send a message.

not agreeing or disagreeing, just looking for perspective.

yeah the team around him is toilet, which has been my point. He’s a victim of his circumstance.

I didn't see the game before so I don't know but you don't send a message to a bloke who is flying. Clearly he is not doing something he should but I have no idea what it is. If I were guessing I would say it is defensive stuff.

Lachie, Fyfe and Sonny still look/ed great playing for us they last few years. He seems like the sort of player that can play a specific role really well but if you don't have the complimentary players it doesn't do much for the team. Need to surround him with quality outside players with speed. Basically Titch-lite.

What we need is a young Stephen or Brad Hill.

We have enough one paced midfielders.

Fremantle in my opinion has a finals team if we can get mostly our best 22 on the park.
Hill from GWS would be a better target than Crouch, plenty on here saying our midfield is one paced.
Berry in the draft, same club as Serong another later option, or just take Trew.
Don't mind the idea of having players already built for AFL, rather than Weber building them up.
The list has Henry, Monaro, Carter, with Walker? Speed.
As for a KP, Tilthorpe, Callow are already tanks, multi positional players that could have an immediate
Impact.

yeah I guess it depends, I think Nicks was under pressure to drop a senior player, I agree he probably wasn’t flying, but probably not doing enough to get dropped. Plus he was straight back in the next week.

regardless, your point about his defensive side would probably be right

Interesting stats on the Crouch bro’s this season.

Average disposals
Matt 24.4 Brad 23.66

Disposal efficiency
Matt 71.3% Brad 63.4%

Kicking Efficiency
Matt 66.7 Brad 49.4%

Turnovers
Matt 19 Brad 35

so on kick efficiency Matt woukd rate 13th at Freo Brad 2nd last

on disposal efficiency Matt would rate 21st Brad 28th

As a point of interest, Sam Taylors housemate and GWS teammate is 100% gone at seasons end so interesting to see if Taylor might follow.

Is he OOC?

It's important to note here:

Contested Possessions:
Matt 9.8, Brad 11.8

Uncontested Possessions:
Matt 14.6, Brad 11.5

Metres Gained:
Matt 264.8, Brad 291.4

Matt is getting cheaper possessions and kicking sideways more, which is why his disposal efficiency is higher than the more offensive Brad.

not sure 26.6m avg extra metres gained per round equates to the significant difference in kick efficiency.

brad is kicking it more yes, but he’s been more of the butcher this season.

It's more the ratio of contested possessions to uncontested possessions that tells the story here.
