So we have a crack at getting this James Rowe bloke in the ND? Likely to be there at 38? Or trade 38 and 48 to move into the mid/late 20’s if possible?

Then try and get a KPD as a DFA, for depth

See how our kids in midfield go this next season and reassess that from there. Only use 1 draft pick if indeed that is the new rule

How many players we have to flick for that? Polson and Moore enough?
Can someone please convince me on Rowe? I don't really see many AFL attributes there, he doesn't tackle or create pressure, all he does is be in the right spot and kick goals, which sounds like a stupid statement but they won't come as easy at AFL level.
I can't, and he'll probably go undrafted. He's at least 12 months away from an AFL contract, and that's assuming he has the pre-season of his life.

Yeah that seems to be the prevailing opinion, Jim. Personally was just going on seeing his name brought up here, know nothing of him...

You got any other small forwards we could target? Either a kid, more mature player or rookie?

Eddie Ford, Brayden Cook and Archie Perkins come to mind, and one would be close-ish to our first pick, so within modest trading territory perhaps.

Isiah Winder is another I'd like us to target, but not as a forward. This draft goes deeper than people think, and I'm honestly shocked how readily we cast aside pick 8 for Saad. That was a terrible trade.

I wasn’t a fan of ditching 8 either but I’ve come to terms with it, just wish we got a bit more back

It’s done now though and we did get a very good player for it

So, as I know nothing about this draft, are these names all 17yo?? If so, is there any more mature options?

Howdy everyone, just thought I'd pop in and shamelessly self-promote my new website "In The Navy", where I talk out of my ass about Carlton in my own unique way.

My first article is a wrap on our 2020 trade period, so if you want to know my thoughts on how we did then click on the link below.

2020 Trade and FA Wrap
Read it all - good work amigo!

If we look at delisted player there Parker or bring back Gowers but I'm a fan of Isaiah Butters, he's from Halls Creek like SPS. I think working with Eddie will get the best out of him.

Takes a bit of re-reading but clubs must have a minimum of 37 players and a maximum of 44. This includes Category B rookies.

There’s also a 10% salary reduction which is at the clubs’ discretion (so doesn’t have to be uniform across the playing group) and I think it was also said yesterday that clubs may take a minimum of just 1 player (or more if they choose) in the ND rather than the mandatory 3.

By my reckoning we currently have:

34 continuing senior list players
1 upgrade from the rookie list (Gibbons) (Pick 78 assuming we use 38 and 48)
3 players traded in (Zac W, Saad and Fogarty)
5 continuing rookies (Cottrell, Honey, Phillips, Owies and Moore)

so currently 43.

So do we go with just the 1 live selection in the ND?

Are we delisting 1 more player to take 2 live selections?

And do we have to move a player to the rookie list?

I wonder if CC injury saved Moore from being Delisted... Phillips could be in trouble.. or poulson, but i actually would have liked to see Poulson for another year as a defender..

List sizes are only dropping by 3, from 47 to 44 (including rookies), so I thought I may have a look at the changes we might see.

We currently have 42 blokes on our list, + Williams, Saad, Fogerty = 45. By delisting 3, Moore (44), Macreadie (43) and Polson (42) this allows us to have 2 picks in the draft (= 44) which is perfect in my opinion - Pick 38 + 48

So, what are our priorities for the draft? Personally, one of those picks I would love to see us get a 3rd ruck, and the other a small forward. I've done a bit of research and here are those types of prospects expected to make it past pick 30.
RUCK - Kalin Lane, HENRY WALSH, Shannon Neale, Max Heath
SMALL FORWARD - Bailey Laurie, Corey Durdin

Who do you see being cut in the next batch of delistings, and which type of player should we target in the draft?

Primary list will be maximum of 38.

Macreadie is staying. Otherwise we need to prioritise a KPD in the draft.

We had 40 on the primary list this year and have lost Kreuzer, Simpson, Lang, BSOS, O'Dwyer.

Goddard gone from the rookie list.

We've added Williams, Fogarty and Saad, meaning our primary list is already 38. Gibbons likely to be upgraded, that makes 39. One pick in the national draft makes 40.

I think Polson is gone. We need to find one other from the primary list. Maybe Ramsay/Macreadie is moved to the rookie list?

Can Gibbons be retained as a rookie due to primary lists being reduced to a maximum of 38? I think Geelong are interested in getting Macreadie (if delisted) so what about Kennedy to the rookie list instead?

We only had 39 on the Senior list this year, 5 retired delisted, 3 added, Gibbo upgraded.

So we're sitting on 38 and need to cut 1 to make our minimum draft pick. So Polson and Kennedy.

The 44 maximum includes 2 Cat B rookies.

So it's really a 42 maximum, with a maximum of 38 senior players.
As it stands, we need to cut at least one senior player to make our single single required pick in the draft, or 2, if we want to use both our picks.

Not looking good for Polson or Kennedy.

Perhaps, given all the changes made on the fly, the aFL will let Clubs move players onto the rookie list without going through the draft? But who knows.

It might be possible to retain Gibbons as a third year rookie - with the AFL constantly changing the rules, it's difficult to know. That would definitely give us greater list flexibility. Macreadie won't be delisted.

hell of a lot of expectation being put on Eddie to turn these kids in to star forwards.

We don’t expect Eddie to miraculously turn a spud into an elite player doesn’t happen , but given his status as an AFL Indigenous legend the exceptional quality of Williams, Martin and SPS.
CFC would have to be an inspiration for a young indigenous footballer.
Reckon we definitely should look at Butters and I like Winder too.
Mentoring & adjusting to AFL cultural & pressures would seamless.
