Funny, I think the AFL is.
Lot of hubbub they make over changing this rule and that, but never for any well thought out reason.
They're going to be a lot less bloated next year.

It's financial, not just due to Covid, but the AFL thinks Clubs are bloated.
We need to cut 2 senior players (uncontracted are Kennedy, Macreadie, Polson). Uncontracted Rookies are Moore, Phillips, and Cat B Owies.
Some interesting decisions to make, Kennedy can play a forward role and if Crippa's injured could help out in the middle.
Owies will stay wouldn't he, as it seems Cat B are a free hit and we are unlikely to bring in another 1-2.
If we have to draft two players >pick 30 they basically aren't going to play for a year or two.
Kemp will stroll past Kennedy/Dow/SPS/Cuningham and Murphy - he is the easiest no brainer new addition to the starting 22.
Levi will play every game ( again)
Marchbank is the biggest question mark for me - can he stay on the park....
I look forward ot seeing Fogarty play
Plowman Jones Marchbank
Docherty* Weitering Saad
TDK Cripps Ed
Walsh Williams Williamson
Martin Harry McGovern
Fisher Levi Eddie
IC: Cuningham | Kemp | Setterfield oh and Murphy of course
EM: SPS etc
Will Kemp stroll past those guys?
I understand he has big wraps on him and there’s a chance he’ll go past them eventually.
But he’s coming back from an ACL, hasn’t played 1 game at AFL level yet, and will not have played a game of competitive footy for over 18 months come round 1 next year.
I’m both bullish on his potential and excited to see him in action, but let’s not get carried away. He probably won’t be in our round 1 team and unless he stars in the preseason and/or VFL early, we may not see him at AFL level until mid-season and might only play a handful of games off the bench.
For the years to come after that .... anything is possible.

Strap yourself in mate- the big boy will be awesome for us.
I will be very surprised if Kemp is playing senior footy come round one.
Massive talent but I reckon they'll ease him into it after a lengthy stint on the sidelines.
He’s inept at anything other than rucking and being big.My concerns with Pitto is he is inept as a resting forward
Speculation. Could we trade a player out at this late stage to get another draft pick?
We need to for list space purposes.Speculation. Could we trade a player out at this late stage to get another draft pick?
Williams is the 7th defender, and he'll be starting games on the wing.Williams won't be playing in the back 6, nor should Weitering be part of the conversation. Willo can play up on a wing.
You still need a 7th defender as part of the rotations and Newman has better IQ than most of the back 6 you named
That's still an 'if' at this point. With Charlie out, Levi plays every game he is fit
This is so disappointing if they stick to it. What they should have done is lower the minimum player total, not shift the maximum along with it. The financial reasoning is dumb (though keep in mind the financial cost of a player extends far beyond their salary). So, as rumoured, max 38/4/2
AFL close to list size cuts as end of trades looms
AFL club lists sizes will be cut to a minimum of 37 and a maximum of 44 players - including all rookies – next year.www.theage.com.au
The net trade is the net trade is the net trade. The net changes on the playing list are not the same. I can't make it any clearer, and I'm tired of people finding new long bows to draw since the days of the Marchbank-Tuohy exchange period. That's why I put a rider in my post
You're plucking out one aspect though and didn't address the other points.
It doesn't matter as at the end of the day we just have opinions to bounce around.
Some will say we did great...and some will say we didn't...and hen some that will say we just did so-so.
We'll only truly know once the list is finalised and we see on-field results as to the net gain of what we did via this trade/draft period.
Dodoro killed it also when acquiring Stringer, Smith, Shiel etc. Ho did all that work out? Prey sh*t actually
EDIT: Need new keyboard. Letters missing everywhere
No current season stats available
There's no reason to jettison Owies - at least purely because of the new rules - as he's a cat B rookie. This is my read on our OOC players.
Chance of being retained:
Macreadie
Kennedy
Likely gone:
Moore
Polson
Owies
Phillips
I mean there are pre-season games for exactly this kind of reason. At this stage he'll definitely play some, and we'll know where he's at before round 1.I will be very surprised if Kemp is playing senior footy come round one.

Go over and suggest an offer to them. Go on... Dare ya’. What are ya’, chicken! How can we get hold of collywobbles 2021 First round pick?
Could be a top 5 when they self destruct.
Thats an expensive packet of twisties and a Mars bar... roughly $1.25M each with a ‘5 year payment plan’...How did we miss the fire sale at Collingwood ...we could have picked up Stephenson for a packet of twisties and a Mars Bar.
