I’d love to find a player 28+ with big game experience that could really help stead the side when the big momentum swings are happening. The 5 goal plus swings killed us. There isn’t many players that would fit the bit, but we should throw the kitchen sink at them.

maybe Luke Parker?
Shawn Higgins is gettable but maybe not the big game experience
Liam Shiel?

THE CARLTON Football Club is pleased to announce the re-signing of 10 of its AFL players.

Marc Murphy, Ed Curnow and Levi Casboult have all inked new one-year deals to continue their careers at Ikon Park.

Defender Lachie Plowman has committed long-term, signing for three years to remain in the Navy Blue until at least the end of 2023, while fellow defenders Nic Newman and Caleb Marchbank have also committed to the Club for one and two years respectively.

First-round draft pick Sam Philp has penned a two-year contract extension, on top of the additional year he already had to run, while fellow first-year player and Round 12 debutant Josh Honey has earned a one-year rookie deal, as has Matthew Cottrell.

Michael Gibbons has earned a promotion to the senior list for the 2021 season after two consistent years at the elite level.

Willo has an offensive mindset which I like. Not afraid to take the game on and has a beautiful left foot. If he can transition to a role up the ground, then it’ll benefit our forward 50 entries
His game on the weekend was a glimpse at how damaging he can be up the ground, 5 clearances, 5 tackles, 5 score involvements, 3 inside 50s and 2 goal assists and a goal.

Willo on the left wing and Walsh on the right would be a winning combo and improve our inside50s dramatically, especially with Cripps, Williams, Setters, Martin, Gibbo and Cunners through the guts and Saad and Doc attacking from half back.

Saints definitely have interest, poster usually has good Intel. And it might not be bigger money wise per year, maybe contract length?
Like all club boards we also have posters with good Intel and he hasn't even been mentioned.

Wouldn't make sense giving up a big contract and a good draft pick for us when it's one area we have kids developing well in.

I think we are more interested in targetting quality mids and a key defender.

Murphy, E. Curnow, Levi, Plowman, Newman, Marchbank, Philp, Honey, Cottrell and Gibbons all re-signed

That all makes sense...as, it usually does in the end.

No way we could have moved on Honey or Cottrell.
Just a little disappointed if we move on Phillips, but could understand if we have to.

EDIT: That should also put to bed any idea of us trading out Marchbank.

Sam McLure saying the JSOS won't be with us next season.

Whilst I can think of very few things which I would hate more than seeing JSOS in red and black, I think in terms of fair value a straight swap with Saad is close to the mark. Maybe get a third club involved to make it more palatable. JSOS to Saints, Saad to us, Pick 14-ish to *.

Honey and Cottrell (1 yr rookie contract), Murph, Ed, Newman and Cas on one year deals. Plowman on a 3 year deal. Marchbank 2 year deal. Philip on a 2 year extension.

Gibbons onto the senior list.

Not sure about this quote regarding the current non defensive runner, non tackler and short steps guy

"A key pillar in the Carlton midfield from the day he was selected with the first overall pick in the 2005 NAB AFL Draft, Murphy will now further cement his legacy as one of the Club’s modern-day greats."

Simmo retiring and Nic Newman only getting a one-year extensions tells me the club is pretty confident if signing Williams and/or Saad.

Interesting, I thought Newman would have got 2+ years.

I do like how relatively frugal or at least short in years all these deals are...not handing out any stupidly long contracts.

So unnecessary.

Marchy re-signed a few weeks ago didn't he?

.....and so did Plowman, but they weren't formally announced. At least Plowman.
We knew of most of those happeneing/had happened but they just weren't put forward in a formal manner.

The big one is Philp for an extra 2 years.

Confuses me as there is definitely a role for him at Carlton as a pressure forward or tagger. Not sure what is to be gained for him leaving unless a bigger contract ??

For the 'pressure forward' role i'd hope we have eyes on a quicker, smaller player.
As a tagger...really? He only tagged Fyfe...that's it.

I can see how he might get squeezed out of the best 22...however the disappointing thing is McGovern has taken his '3rd tall' spot and isn't really performing while on a big contract (funnily enough given to him by JSOS' dad). Might have been better if we didn't get McGovern and had JSOS playing that role for cheaper.

SOS pushed out by Liddle, BSOS delisted and JSOS traded...would be a disappointing end to the Silvagni legacy at Carlton tbh.
