They got Judd and NicNat with pick 2 (Judd might have been 3). They were consensus picks at those points, no special talent was required.

They recruited Masten with pick 3 before Dangerfield, Rioli and Rance.

The Eagles are still get reward for the Judd selection with JK absolutely tearing the competition apart still in 2020.

The more i think about it, this is actually the way to solve so many problems with footy
Creates many others also.
-what happens to zones, junior development pathways and the draft.
-what happens if a 2nd’s team qualifies for promotion.
-do you limit how many teams from one state can be in each tier.
-how do you distribute funding to clubs across the country to get them prepared for promotion.
-what happens to highly paid players in a club that’s relegated? How do they transfer, do they transfer?

I've always thought P&R in Aussie Rules would have to be at least over a five year period where you have five years to work towards promotion and a guaranteed five years in the top tier.

Yeah, but as opposed to "almost nabbing" a premiership, they win them (or at least make the GF). Their bottom spoon years they also pick up the likes of Judd and NicNat....I strongly doubt we have the recruiting talent to pick anything similar. Also, apart from Judd, remind of the last good player to leave them in the last 10 years? Dont get me wrong, I think their fans are arrogant, and a day in Perth is about as interesting as watching paint dry, but they get the little things right that we dont.
...like knowing their drug culture was helping them on field...

Giants have dropped Coniglio.

How long was his contract again ??

The top 8 is getting tight and interesting.

If all the favs win this round and next, a Power Failure at Adelaide Oval in R18, sees the Power sent to Metricon in Week 1 of the finals to play the Cats.

If the Power is on at Adelaide Oval in R18, it gets to see "History in the making" when the Eagles get the chance for a 3rd consecutive( hat-trick) goal after the siren wins at Adelaide Oval.

Buckle Up.

You don't bail clubs out. If they fold they fold. The onus has to be placed on them to seek out the best. Not boys club their way to the top. If the afl said tomorrow that as of 2021 we are no longer financing any club bar gold coast and GWS watch these Melbourne boys clubs sit up overnight and start kicking out the dead wood and employing quality people.

Maybe, but if we lost a couple of clubs and our TV deals collapsed, the entire league could fold.

He's really dropped off this year. Can't hit the side of a barn these days. Injuries catching up with him I think.

So Barrett was going with the rumour that Jack Viney was exploring his options at Melbourne. I wonder whether we would have any interest in picking him up? Has lived in Adelaide, we lack midfield depth and could be secured for say the Giants pick.

Why would we want him as a free agent which takes away the Brad compo ??

On more then one occasion on Tuesday evening I remember thinking, "wow, Coniglio seems like he's shockingly easy to nullify these days".

Comparing him to Rory Laird who at the moment seems genuinely impossible to stop when the ball hits the deck. He's like a Silky Terrier down a rabbit hole!

Actually, thats not a bad nickname for Rory atm, The Silky Terrier!

Do the Giants owe us a pick in the 40s?

I floated this earlier in the year. But with the emergence of Laird i'm not sure he's as big a need anymore. Plus that injury history still makes me a bit uneasy

If the Giants pick ends up being say pick 11 - 14, I actually dont think it would be a bad idea to get in Viney, especially in a year when there is such little exposed form in the draft...and especially if we end up with picks one and two (for Brad)

Use a first round pick on a free agent, who is essentially a more injury prone version of what we already have (Matt Crouch)?

I'll have what you're smoking thanks.

You've got to be kidding

Nope... free agent so we’d screw ourselves with any potential compo picks
