28 rounds makes no sense unless the comp is reduced to 15 teams
It makes sense if you take into account that the AFL is likely trying to maintain the multibillion TV rights deal (~$420M / year ?). Since we lost 5/6 games this year, they're trying to tack it on to the next years schedule (i.e. 23+5 = 28 games)

Understanable given they're trying to run a business, but man they are greedy mother****ers. How the **** are we meant to fit aanother 5 games? The October finals has already screwed the offseason training scedhule.

No preseason games thanks

I noticed the draft is Dec 7th? Most draftees won't play 2021 at this rate

Not only have they lost match hardness and running fitness because of covid stoppages but a very short preseason puts them further behind

I would be more than happy with 28 games and the shorter corners.

am I on my own here?

Nah, I like it. We already have the longest pre-season in professional sports and it would require a more extensive use of the list to manage.

Very curious to see how this one plays out.

Got me thinking last night, if the Power get a home final vs the Eagles, would it not be in their best interest to play the Final in QLD at night, where the Eagles are a bit vulnerable?

At AO, Eagles will tear the Power apart on a beautiful dry ground at night.
I doubt eagles will beat any top 4 side without McGovern.

Where though?

There's barely any population in Tasmania or NT to support a team. MAYBE far north Queensland but Melbourne has the mix of population and existing passion.

WA could handle a third.

Around 2030 is the time to bring in the Perth Jets and Tasmanian Devils.

The government of Tasmania has already said they would underwrite it and they would easily get a supporter base. The afl are just being pig headed. NT could also do the same. They could split their home games between Alice and Darwin. They would be way more marketable than dead wood vic teams.

I would rather the league was cut to 12 teams with the financially dependant ones either forced out or forced to merge..

So port, stkilda, north etc forced to merge with each other or with suns, gws..

Then 24 rounds with each team playing the same opponent twice. Once at home once away.

Tassie has done themselves no favours with their ridiculous border restrictions. We won't have to worry about losing Jones to a Tas team anytime soon.

That will play no part. They are talking 2025. However it would be dependant on how the afl recovers financially. If the afl is struggling and clubs end up folding well there will be no money to invest in a new team anyway.

And surprisingly Jacobs dropped - he was apparently comparable to ROB according to match reports (from people who clearly didn't watch him ruck).

Not only that, Jacobs was second best on ground according to Champion Data, throwing their ranking system into question once again

If we add a Perth and Tassie teams in 2030 (great idea conVINCEd - wait until the population level recovers and grows again to expand the talent pool), I’m keen on a 19 round season.

Ends up very similar in total games played compared to the current 18 teams/22 game set up, and heightens the importance of each game, while equalising the fixture.

If Geelong beat Richmond tonight then Port have to beat Collingwood in the last round to guarantee two home finals and if they do beat Collingwood they would play West Coast in week 1. If they don't then they play away week 1 but would be home week 2 (if lose) or home week 3 (if win).

If Richmond beat Port, then Port will finish top two with two home finals (irrespective if they win or lose to Collingwood) but both Richmond and Geelong will be in top 4 and Finals Week 1 they would play Geelong in Adelaide.

Assumptions - Brisbane win last two games (Sydney and Carlton - both likely), Richmond defeat Adelaide and Geelong defeat Sydney and West Coast defeat North Melbourne in last round (all going to happen).

GWS dropping Hateley, Caldwell, Hill, Riccardi and Ash.

Sounds like they got infected with our selection policy.

Riccardi? One poor game after starring in earlier games? FMD
