He’s right. We all know that we need to go backwards to go forward. But we’ll all whinge, including me.
Load up with the kids and the only thing I’ll whinge about is experienced players ****ing up like not being able to hit targets. Makes the new game plan futile.

Yes, but it would be nice to see Kelly look forwards - even briefly - after he takes a mark. Sideways, backwards, sideways, backwards... kick.

Thats good

Never mind the argument about kids v seniors - that fact that this has been mentioned is a credit to the club. Good messaging
First time I can recall us looking beyond the four points this weekend

Agree with this

When we were forced to switch the ball in the back half last year it tended to be a very slow, defensive movement. Rather than quick to open up space on the other sidevof the ground.

The defenders simply dawdled across and we were faced with the same problem as with the initial possession.

We perhaps lacked the footskills and speed in the back half last year to utilise an effective switch but hopefully will see a bit more dare and imagination this season
Yeah but when Rat tries to dodge a tackle and run a bit and gets pinged, it's important we absolutely dogpile on him for trying to actually move the thing with some speed. He'll learn.

Baffling that we have Matt and Brad as our primary handball receivers.

Brad should be winning the contest, and then hand balling to Smith Seedsman Milera etc.

When we have our worst kicks as our primary handball receivers you should expect that our delivery forward by foot will be poor.

Genuine question with no malice but how many were to Brad and vice versa?

Sometimes the brother give/receive can be good but not if its overdone

I’m sure someone on here posted that Matt calls for the ball a lot and can get quite heated if he’s not given the ball.

If it wasn’t on here I’ve definitely heard it elsewhere

Are you able to include the ones who played State of Origin and average it per game ? Keen to see where BSmith sits in this.

Unfortunately it's been the case for a while that Matt and Brad are the best inside mids we have for spreading from the contest to receive that quick give.

Yolmen and Greenwood never had the ability or game sense to make that initial move from the coal face, and Sloane has never had a lot of spread from the initial contest either.

Imo it's always been a coaching directive that outside players are meant to have the speed and footskills, and they've never worried about spread from the inside of the contest.

Issue is, most often there isn't the time for Rat or Seed to run in off the wing, or Smith/Milera to come off the hbf to receive in tight, unless they immediately start flooding toward the contest the moment it happens.

I think this is a big reason we tended to get "sucked in" to the contest. We had no line breakers on the inside and as such, players with natural positioning skills such as Matt and Brad took up the majority of our receives. The coaches wanted better ball users receiving, but for some God forsaken reason, Campo kept playing the same trio give or take a Yolmen or Greenwood in the centre bounce rotation.

Hopefully the additions of Jones/Smith/Seed/Milera can rectify this, but my god has it been a shocking direction taken with the inside midfield the last five or more years.

But do they kick after the HB receive or give another HB?

All of Macrae, Hopper, Hunter and the Crouich brothers are not dissimilar in game style I wouldn't have thought.

It says absolutely nothing

Not a single specific thing about the findings of the review or what went wrong

You do realise Brad is one of a rare breed of inside mids that play almost exclusively inside that actually kicks more than he handballs yeah?

Interesting also, that wasnt always the case - remember early on it was common to see 1:2 games from him. Definitely a change last year.
