Yes, but it would be nice to see Kelly look forwards - even briefly - after he takes a mark. Sideways, backwards, sideways, backwards... kick.

Remember when we played him on a wing for 2-3 games as a stop gap until Mackay returned. If anyone needs proof that Pyke’s selection philosophy moronic, look no further than Jake Kelly the wingman.

Haven’t even selected round 1 side yet and Talia already laying down the excuse for up to a full season of poor performance. Nothing wrong with senior player culture at our club. Don’t yell at us, we’re learning a new game plan.
Would you prefer the "we're coming to get you"

I don't have any problem with what he said. Its the truth so what purpose does it serve blowing smoke up people's a$$es?

People who think we are going to come in with a concerted effort to play the youth and then magically start playing a new game plan perfectly in a 3 month preseason are absolutely kidding themselves!

My expectation is that in the first 2-3 months we will see a mix of extremely ugly football and extremely attractive football, and not a lot in between. With a W/L that reflects that inconsistency!

Well said!
If the AFC/Crows players say, “We are aiming to make the Eight“, they are delusional and it is just an indication that we are unwilling to make genuine changes and play the Kids.

If the AFC/Crows players say “It will take some time for us to nail the new game plan and for the Kids to adjust to the pressures of AFL” our senior players are looking for excuses and have a poor culture.

2020 will be a great time to be a Crows Troll!

I'm predicting a season that's similar to the Hornets in the NBA. Pre-season looked like it would be a complete dumpster fire for Charlotte but the plucky youngsters have shown plenty of promise and snatched a few wins that weren't expected. Still firmly in the bottom half but positive signs for the future and not as bad as we all expected.

I think that's what everyone just wants to see, some promising signs from some of our young kids. A bit of excitement about the future again!

Yeah nah

Some slight improvement last year but the fact remains the brothers are handball happy which reduces their effectiveness relative the amount they get their hands on it.

Can only assume they had a very small backyard when growing up.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. We're talking inside mids here...of course players like Dangerfield, Bontompelli, Martin and several others do as well but all played big stretches up forward this year and you'd have a hard job convincing anyone Andrew Gaff was an "inside" mid.

Of course Brad playing virtually pain free in 2019 with his pesky groins/osteoitis pubis not troubling him for the first time in a very, very long time might have helped.

Jackson Macrae - 14.9K -18.6Hb
Adam Treloar - 14.0K - 18.9 Hb
Matt Crouch - 14.2K - 18.4 Hb
Lachie Neale - 12.5K - 18.4 Hb
Travis Boak - 14.6K - 15.8 Hb
Brad Crouch - 15.4K - 14.9 Hb
Clayton Oliver - 11.3K - 18.8 Hb
Nathan Fyfe - 13.9K - 15.2K
Patrick Cripps - 10.6K - 17.5 Hb
Josh Kennedy - 12.3K - 14.3 Hb
Rory Sloane - 12.1K - 12.6Hb
Ben Cunnington - 8.6K - 18.1 Hb

I think Godden just needs to remember 1 crucial thing that Campo never seemed to grasp. And that's Brad and Matt are 2 different players. They have their own individual strengths and weaknesses that are not the same and should be used to the advantage of the team.

I've loved Brad lining up on the wing this offseason. Think that's a great sign that we are trying to fix that imbalance in his game!

Apparently he was a late recruit to football and hasn't been playing all that long, which is probably what interested us.

Crazy idea but instead of turning basketball players into footballers what about we turn footballers into better footballers?

Left field theory I know.

Look we all agree want to see kids play and critical off not playing last year .
But they have to demand to be picked by performance and least show something when given chance.
We gave quite a few chance last year like Gallucci , Poholke ,Wilson,Davis , jones ,Stengle and Fogarty .
They all gave absolutely nothing except Stengle was unlucky not to get 2 nd game and handling of Fogarty was ridiculous.
Maybe when season virtually over a Sholl or Hamill could have been given a go but top picks Gallucci and Jones whilst showing flashes, not put in a game demanding future selection like those down the road kids have done.

If the club comes out and says, its gonna take awhile to learn the gameplan and this year might be a down year then that's great and should be respected

we all want truth

we dont want 'still have a strong core group that made a gf in 17 so we think we can push for finals' That line got dotted out the last two years and we had egg on our face both times.

They arent good odds he will continue

All those other names you provided dont mean jack. They are just cover

I hope his figures improve but I think his 1st instinct is the give by hand and he needs to work on that to be effective

Then Patrick Cripps, Lachie Neale. Nat Fyfe and Clayton Oliver have a real power of work to do by your assertions. Inside mids are extractors by definition end of story, and the names Cripps, Neale, Oliver and Fyfe do mean jack whether you want to believe it or not. Patrick Cripps 268.6 metres gained in 2019, Lachie Neale 317.5 MG, Clayton Oliver 335.4 MG, Nat Fyfe 360.4 MG, Brad Crouch 380.5 MG

We'll have to agree to disagree I'm afraid.

Yet Rory Sloane believes they can make the finals.

There is nothing to agree to disagree on. You made the statement that Brad was one of the few inside mids that ''has more kicks than handballs''

I pointed out that over his career that isnt the case.

You quite rightly pointed out the affect OP had on him and that his 2019 season was better - and I concede his ratio was better - just -

So I checked his Marsh stuff - and again I concede small sample size - and I found he had a 1-1 draw . His game v Gold Coast is concerning as he went - 10

Again I hope it hasnt become instinctive to handball rather than kick. All the other midfielders dont concern me because it was about Brads differential.

Just a quick look at the correlation between ratio and Brownlow Votes - I am currently unaware of the mix -

Round 2 - 1 vote 26 disposals 15 k 11 :heavycheck:
Round 3 - 2 votes 35 disposals 18 k 17 :heavycheck:
Round 9 - 2 votes 32 disposals 18 k 14 :heavycheck:
Round 11 - 3 votes 29 disposals 21 k 8 :heavycheck::heavycheck:
Round 12 - 1 vote 31 disposals 15 k 16 :heavymultiply:
Round 13 - 3 votes 43 disposals 27k 16 :heavycheck::heavycheck::heavycheck:
Round 18 - 2 votes 35 disposals 19k 16 :heavycheck:

Interesting correlation - and I had money on Brad to win it , so its not as if I dont think he has talent. I just think , as I hope the above shows , that he needs to get boot to ball more

He didn’t say anything about youth. That’s yet to be tested, round 1 can not come quick enough.

No I said the thing about the youth, but it’s all relative, and should be factored into people’s expectations for this year.

Really if people have even a modicum of reality in their expectations this season then BF should be a rather pleasant place to be.

I’m not holding my breath for that though
