Walker not even in the leadership group. 2x best captain.

That's a big call. No Talia either.

Doedee is obvious. The others in the leadership group don't really strike me as stand up when the chips are down types. Pretty light on for obvious leaders is the take home message for mine.

This will be a period in the shade for a few years.

According to the video posted on the Sloane thread it was said both Tex and Talia declined to be in the group but would still offer support and input

I’d be surprised if Tex wanted to be. Like Talia he’ll still have influence at training and the change rooms etc.

I see no issue

Walker and Talia need to be completely focused on themselves and maintaining their bodies.

Can't be out on the track all the time to lead by example or set standards.

It's me time for both of them.

By my reading of the article it was Nicks’s decision

“In regards to Taylor and Daniel, the feedback from their peers suggested they both could have been included in the leadership group but we have decided it is time to transition and provide leadership opportunities to others.

“They were supportive of the decision and are highly respected members of the playing group, and will continue to provide guidance and advice across the football program.”

To be fair a lot are.
I see it as casual fans with their goldfish memory. Every new footy season comes along and they pretend like the last one never existed.

Real enthusiasts on the other hand hang on to all the good/bad footy moments until they're dead or senile. I will never forget the 97 GF but you know I'll still be planning Tippett's demise when I'm very old and crapping my pants in assisted living.

Yeah that's as clear as you'll ever get.

Fair play to him trying to make his mark. For mine I would take Walker and especially Talia over Lynch and Smith as leaders every day of the week.

It's kind of similar to the argument of old school senior coach vs new age senior coach. Purely on face value Tex and Talia look more like the kind of dudes who would tear shreds off a guy who wasn't lifting their end.

Yeah I can't escape the feeling that Nicks is a caretaker. And not the planned kind. More the **** what do we do now kind. But at least we have a coach unlike senior assistant and culture officer who apparently aren't that important after all. There just seems to be a degree of paralysis and tell the fans everything is magical attitude.

Buy us another year and who knows what could happen.

I sometimes don't know when you're being sarcastic haha
That's genuine!

Walker for instance has played/trained in the past when clearly physically hampered. No doubt feeling the responsibility of being a leader.

Hopefully that rubbish can stop now (eg the mini preseason that was aborted halfway through).

What is best for Walker The Individual is also the best thing for the team. Same with Talia.

Yep. Can't change the culture by keeping everything the same.

It would be easier to get behind Nicks if our administration didn't have a known record for making bad appointments. I don't blame anyone for being pessimistic.

The PR stuff is all bullshit but it's par for the course in the industry so I wouldn't spend too much time thinking about it. Every club in the league is blowing smoke up peoples asses this time of year.

You reckon he's suddenly going to stop trying to play under duress? That's part of what made him a leader in the first place.

That won't change at all. It's more a symbolic gesture, transitioning official authority to less expectant types.

Some enthusiasts also just enjoy looking forward to a new season and don’t hold onto every inch of the past.

Our last two senior coaches haven’t been bad appointments.

I absolutely think he felt the responsibility of being captain and so would any player.

You have to lead from the front as captain.

The mini preseason summed it up. The medics said that he needed to do X. He started doing it, then we lost a few game. X was out the window. He didn't suddenly heal.

Talia would've been an inspired choice as captain. Agree with all you've posted on this. Blight was talking tonight about how we don't need a culture and welfare officer. Made a big show about how it's on the senior players. Yes, he's senile, but on this point he's right. Culture is mainly driven by coach and especially senior players.

Any organisation you join as a young man you chiefly look up to your senior colleagues as a guide. They show you how serious everyone is and also what you can get away with.

We've clipped a fair few of the main senior sooks I reckon so hopefully those that are left can instill the required culture.
That culture position doesn't just work with the players though, it's across both men's and women's playing teams, the coaches/support staff and the admin staff.

I'd say if we want to be fair to Sloane and give him a legit captaincy then Tex can't be in the leadership group. He needs to be the unquestioned man in the group who is the guy.

Pyke wasn't great. He got points for knocking out our prelim hoodoo but replaced it with something worse, lost the playing group with his stupid ass mind training camp and left the club in a sorry state after 2 years of dismal failure.

Happy Smith is in the leadership group. He was one of the few that stood up last year. Doedee was a certainty and future captain material. MCrouch has been part of it for a while so no surprises. Not really sold on Lynch though in the group. Would have gone with talia myself. I just hope Sloane gets a harder edge to him as captain.

Yep, good call. You’d expect both Tex and Talia would be there to support him, certainly not white ant him

So if Frampton / Berg are up forward, what does your forward line look like? Fog, Tex, Lynch, Berg/Fampton, Neddy, Stengle -> it just looks too slow for me
Agree. I would run with:

Walker Fogarty Milera
McAdam/Stengle Himmelberg/Frampton Mchenry

Would rest ROB up forward when Berg/Frampton is in the ruck. Would play Sloane on a wing and half forward switching with Milera. I feel we can only play one of either walker or lynch. I would play walker as long as his body is right. I feel its a necessity to play Fogarty as he earns his spot on performance and we must get games into him. We could also rest Jones(when not playing midfield) in McHenry's spot and give Ned some bursts in the midfield.
