Because the AFL needs to make it possible for employees to be able to work for the employer of their choosing.

It is questionable whether the AFL EBA would survive a challenge through the courts. All it takes is one player saying that they were unlawfully able to accept employment for the whole system to come crashing down. This is why the AFL wants players getting to the clubs of their choice as often as possible.

Look at how much they got involved with the Carlisle deal for evidence of this.

That's bullshit though. It's a sporting competition not a regular workplace, they set the rules. It was just a money grab from the AFLPA.

Treloar the other big ticket item apparently

Where confirmed mate?

Edit: Tom Browne.

if true, i think we do our business and steer well clear of Brisbane, Carlton, GWS and the Bulldogs, it will be an unholy shitshow with Dodo in the eye of the cyclone.

Couldnt agree more

And not to mention the contracts are signed to the AFL directly.

Contracts don't supersede contract or employment law. If one player brings a restraint of trade suit against the AFL, the whole D&T comes crumbling down.
Happened in the NRL 20 years ago.
