AFLW 2024 - Round 10 - Chat, game threads, injury lists, team lineups and more.
If he said that he must be getting the vibe that GWS are taking Finn.Great interview with Hamish Ogilvie on 5AA.
We'll probably take 2 or 3 selections. 4 is very unlikely.
Phil Harper has been watching the SA boys this year.
Some years there might be 10 strategies with selections and moving up or down, this year probably only 3 or 4 options.
Would love Finn Callahan if he was available, but doesn't think he will be.
The big fella giving nothing away.who are we picking?
Perth too. Don't think we're drafting from there though, so not so much of a worry.Phil Harper watching the SA lads fill people with confidence?
We took Danger early - literally - as a 17yo back when it was possible. Guess our talent spotters really liked what they saw and jumped early. Had PD not been drafted by us and played in the NAB the next year, maybe he would have torn it up to be rated a top 3 pick.We definitely need a 'unicorn' midfielder. I'm looking at our list and yes we have some talented midfielders but i can't see any of them being in the top bracket - ie. Dusty, Bont, Petracca/Oliver etc. Historically you usually need a top 5 pick to grab one of these but every now and then you can take one a bit later (ie. Danger at 10, Fyfe in the 20's etc). I'm looking at McHenry, Pedlar, Schoenberg, Jones, Cook, Berry etc - these guys will make up our midfield rotation for the next 10 years but I can't see any of them at this stage pushing to be a top 5 midfield in the league at some stage. I think they could develop into a 3rd/4th/5th/6th banana in terms of the midfield rotation or they're more likely to end up as flankers/role players. Cook has a lot of talent and is probably the one on our list that COULD (strong could) be a superstar, enough to be that unicorn? Not sure. He certainly has the physical attributes, mix of class, speed, power and leap - but banking on him to be the one is hard to envisage.
...
My recollection was he was good against crows SANFL team if that counts for anything, looked better at contest than a lot of our younger players. Pretty sure he really set himself for that day and he did well.Completely agree , his contested ball win ratio concerns me . Ball use is great If he gets the ball enough
For the record I do not want Callaghan or JHF. Not that I don't think they'll become good players (only seen JHF, think he will be a very good player) but that they are mega mega flight risks. Sucked in to anyone other than WB and Port respectively if they pick them as that's where they'll end up.You just know how this board will react: Say we get up to pick2 and get Callahan. Everyone will be happy BUT everyone will be watching how Rachelle performs and if he becomes a stand out in 2022 we will all be saying "we could have had him" and the chances are we will become disappointed with picking Callahan.
One thing I will say is that this year there has been less noise around worrying who Port will select. Normally there is a focus on trying to stuff up their plans even at the expect of our own plans. Will be interesting to watch the draft at least for the first round. Then will be interesting to come on here and read the comments.
Played well didn't heI think Fahey will be a gun (based on the Geelong game). Not sure why he's not up higher. Maybe that game was an anomaly?
JHF isnt a flight risk for Adelaide teams.....For the record I do not want Callaghan or JHF. Not that I don't think they'll become good players (only seen JHF, think he will be a very good player) but that they are mega mega flight risks. Sucked in to anyone other than WB and Port respectively if they pick them as that's where they'll end up.
Also don't think much of Amiss, but pretty sure we're no risk to pick him, not interested in Johnson, will be a solid player but too little of the qualities we need and too much of the type we already have. Aside from those four, pretty much anyone else that's been mentioned in the top 15 has my blessing.
He'll draw a bid somewhere in the 2nd round, he won't have flown under recruiters radars like the amateur watchers...that bazooka boot won't have been missed.I think Fahey will be a gun (based on the Geelong game). Not sure why he's not up higher. Maybe that game was an anomaly?
Listening to Hamish on 5AA now, missed a bit at the start
- Just said they think we're covered for talls so don't see that being a position of recruiting this draft.
- Thinks there will be less live trading this year overall, thinks we don't have as much ammo to move around like in previous years, says there may be 3-4 options this year, compared to 10-12 in previous years.
- Serious consideration for trying moving up for Callaghan.
- Rachele up there on their talent list with Milera, Ward, Hobbs, Sinn.
- Thrown their best shot at trading for pick 1, doesn't think it's gonna happen
- Thinks Wanganeen-Milera is a top 10 pick
- List is capable of taking 4 picks in the National Draft, depending on what happens with trades we'll upgrade 1-2 rookies (mentioned Keays and Butts)
- Supplemental List - Depends on how many rookie spots we have. Will evaluate for needs post draft
- If our NGA guys (Isaiah Dudley and Blayne O'Loughlin) don't get picked we can keep them in our NGA and play for our SANFL team.
Geez I wouldn't say no to Matthew Johnson if we can scrounge another 1st round pick from somewhere, one of the very highest skilled mids in this draft bar none. For the record I do not want Callaghan or JHF. Not that I don't think they'll become good players (only seen JHF, think he will be a very good player) but that they are mega mega flight risks. I don't think that'd be our first option, but one we'd take based on who's left on the talent list at our pick (meaning Callaghan, Rachele and maybe even Sinn get picked)Interesting comments made.
The fact that he thinks Wanganeen-Milera is a Top 10 pick, is interesting.
Could be setting us up to trade our Pick 4.
Have similar feelings about Callahan but not sure how JHF would be a flight riskFor the record I do not want Callaghan or JHF. And he’s athletic and 193cm + . If it all came together he could end up a star . There are some risks tooGeez I wouldn't say no to Matthew Johnson if we can scrounge another 1st round pick from somewhere, one of the very highest skilled mids in this draft bar none.
So Drafting on need ......thoughts Sanders
It’s always a bit of both but mostly talent earlyHe actually said that we will be drafting for talent at 4.
And, there was some suggestion of "balancing" (need) at 33.
Hamish looked tired and stressed .....moreso than usual, and appeared that an interview was the last thing he wanted to do (under duress)
If that game was anything to go by I'd have him in the 1st round easily. He'll draw a bid somewhere in the 2nd round, he won't have flown under recruiters radars like the amateur watchers...that bazooka boot won't have been missed.
