I agree with you to some extent but i mean there are always player comparisons with every player in the drafts but i do agree comparisons are often annoying like why can't Rachele just be himself and not Greene v2 or Elliott. I do agree with you on Sinn, very impressive vision from what i have watched of him, his speed and acceleration is very eye catching and i would go as far as saying he would be wasted at half back as i reckon he has huge upside to be a A grade midfielder. I would be way more excited in picking Sinn with pick 4 than Rachele definitely. I do fear though that he could just as well slide to Ports pick at 12.

Yeah mate, true, player comparisons are mostly to help identify traits for those people that haven't seen them. Especially with AFL pieces though, the comparison is the best player they can think of. Thought I'd add my own view, with a lesser player as thats what I think.

I would trade our next years 1st and 4 for 2 and 13 this year. Would surely be more appealing than Ports future 1st.
Add Callaghan and 1 of Goater/Sinn/Erasmus, Then maybe Fejo to add defensive forward pressure and we would have a serious list to work with.
That's my ideal draft. Maybe Sinn or Goater don't fall that far, but it would be close. but if not, Johnson, NWM, Chesser, Nevitt, Sonsie or Draper should.

Yeah that is true, i guess player comparisons are in every sport just about. Interesting with your comparison of Rachele to Jamie Elliott, you would think pick 4 would be too high for a player like that not saying that Elliott is no good but not top 10 worthy. I would rather on of Callaghan/Sinn/Erasmus/Goater

Yet the last time this draft class played true representative football (Nationals) Rachele was judged the best player in the land by some very astute judges/past players on the selection committee. He's played a total of about 10 games since in the last 2 years, in the bests in most of those games, the 2021 NAB League's leading goal kicker on a games played basis and a member of the NAB League's Team Of The Year off of the 4 games he played.

If Hamish and his crew judge him the best player at our pick I'm very comfortable with that as they would have had eyes at every one of those games to assess him.

Very true, he has been highly rated but yeah will put faith in Hamish and his crew as always i mean that is practically their life during the season watching all these players so no one on here can be so certain about who is good and who is not. Let us hope that whether it is Rachele or someone else that they are a 200+ game and one club player.

No doubt, we all have to trust in Hamish, as he and his team are seeing much more than us, but that doesn't have to be mentioned every time someone wants to voice an opinion, or we should close Bigfooty down its pointless.

As for Rachele being judged BOG - well so was Elliott in the game against us.

I liked your earlier call on Goater before anyone knew about him, plus highlighting Fejo. You offer a lot, but try to not jump on others with other views.
I also agree with you on Lukac as a rookie if available.

Would you be disappointed if Hamish took Sinn at 4?

Look, you'd be very okay with a Jamie Elliott-like outcome, he probably goes a bit underrated due to being perennially injured. Obviously you want him to develop into a guy that can push into the middle a bit more, though

Really? He specifically said Midfielders, of which Rachele is not. Rachele has spent some time there but you can't class him as a Mid.

Who else has speed and pace on the outside?

That's Callaghan, Ward, Goater in the top 15 from the top of my head.
God you say some silly things.

Rachele won a championship MVP as a midfielder

Yes I would, fine if we can somehow manage to land another pick in the 1st round but not as a single 1st round pick, much the same as that would be my preference with Rachele but that particular scenario seems unlikely if the media/recruiters are around the mark as to where he goes in this draft..

Elliott may well have been if not for said injuries.

Im all for Ward at our pick if GWS take Rachele and GC Callaghan. We could do with a Zac Merrett type player.

However, I would make a phone call to GWS just before the draft starts and be completely honest with them. Tell them we are taking Rachele if they pick Callaghan and suggest that if they are ACTUALLY taking Rachele at 2 then we will trade for it because Rachele will be there at 4 if he is their target.

GWS might get a free Crows 2022 second rounder for absolutely nothing if they know GC arent taking Rachele.

Just a thought. Still happy with Ward as a back up.

I've got nor problems with us taking Rachele at 4. If we rate him that highly then grab him.

I'm fascinated though that ALL the talk is us taking him. Almost no other players are connected to us. YET we are also known for being very tightlipped with drafts. Might be a big surprise yet.
I know it's a bit lame to quote myself, so not trying to prove a point, more adding to the last bit of above.

I suspect we will try for pick 2, then trade down and draft Sinn.

I'm thinking about Ogilvie's comments. Outside pace and explosiveness. That is Sinn all over. More so than anyone else (except JHF) in the top 10.

Current rumour is GWS want to trade 13 for a future 1st and Port are one of the teams interested. Guessing it potentially allows them to take Wanganeen-Milera and someone else they have their eyes on.
I’d do their 2021 13th and their 2022 1st

for

our 2021 33 and 2022 1st rounder

not sure they would though..

Yeah Elliott has had a horror run with injuries, at full fitness you are right he is a top player but if that comparison is true we would much rather a player that can push into the middle. I don't know whether Rachele will have that capability in the limited exposure he has had to midfield time.

I am lost. Are you saying we should trade up to 2 for Rachele?

Chesser probably quicker than all those guys.

Not sure if you are talking about the STYLE of Elliott, or the QUALITY of Elliot, or both.

Would you be a yes for a player of the STYLE of Elliott that could be a top 2 player in a team (not saying that's what Rachele or anyone else is)?

People seem to go for the quality of the player comparison, not the style it seems more to be intended for.

What are you laughing at muzza?..

I’d be thinking its not that great a deal for GWS if anything.. pretty risky. More in the crows favour.

id expect the crows to start moving up the ladder next year so our 2022 1st could be pick around 8 or 9..
GWS, on the other hand, I cant see getting much better really so they will probably have a 2022 1st around 13 again..

so it would be pick something like 13 and 13 for pick 9 and 33.

and ultimately I dont really care where our 1st pick for 2022 falls in the end because I reacon its probably going to be used in a trade with the Suns anyway..

Do not want Rachele.

We have one of the worst midfields in the comp. IMO we desperately need an additional two young elite midfielders to have any chance of challenging for a flag in 5 years time.

From all the chatter it looks like we're taking Rachele. That will be 3 years near the bottom of the ladder without drafting a single elite midfielder. Our midfield will be going backwards rapidly compared to the midfields of the rest of the competition.

At least Nicks recognises that speed and power helped win Melbourne the grand final - and he wasn't referring to their small forwards.

If we pick a small forward, we'll have a midfield engine that will be spluttering along for a few more years yet until we finally draft some elite midfield talent. Only then will we be moving higher than the bottom half of the ladder.

All just my opinion, of course.

Have enjoyed reading all your thoughts on the players in this draft pool. Cheers.
Yes but just cos Dees won the GF with an elite high pick midfield doesnt mean we have to replicate. Why not get your top 5 picks as elite fwds and have an elite fwd line (TT and Rachele…and hopefully Rankine).
Midfielders are always available and a little easier to buy a good 1.

I am talkong more about style, being a top 2 player in the team would be good of course but I am more of the opinion we need a speedy midfielder to add to the mix. I am torn really because Rachele does have huge upside and there is every possible chance he can transition into a midfielder in time. All I can say is thank god I am not a recruiter because that is one damn hard job.
