I still laugh at the talk we will trade Jack and Dow.
In the last month when we have started to win more games they've been two of our best, consistent players.
Not only is this an example of a journalist, if you can call him that, clutching at straws, but it's also an example of a journalist, if you can call him that, not even doing his research. Do these clowns even watch the games?

Not an unreasonable position to take on Setters. He's had enough time to at least show signs and aside from the Crows game at the MCG in 2019 I personally haven't seen enough to suggest he is going to make it. At least with some other underperformers like Dow, LOB, Fish and Samo have shown even just glimpses on a more regular basis to suggest that they've got more to offer that's worth persisting with. The fear with him is that his dominance in juniors was due mainly to him being bigger than everyone else and that hasn't translate in seniors where his size is no longer such a huge advantage. Concerningly he's now had a few year to work that out for himself and I don't see him doing anything to add other stings to his game by getting physically stronger, increasing his aerobic capacity or improving his skills. I think its worth giving him one more year given he's under contract until the end of 2022 because if nothing else I'd rather not pay him out which we'd have to do if we delist him this year. The hope is that playing for the new contact is the catalyst for a big uptick in his performances, but I do acknowledge there is a risk he doesn't improve in in which case he should up on the scrap heap next year and we get nothing for our investment in him.

In my view he lacks intent and hardness/aggression.

Fair enough - I didn't look it up - I know he has an absolutely shambolic average of around 16 - So just presumed he'd barely cracked 20 possessions.

Winger - played 16 games, 5 times 20 possies - ouch.

A good reserves player doesn’t mean a good seniors player either. I hope he does live up to his draft reputation but right now, long way to go

Murphy, Casboult, Marchbank and Eddie will free up a reasonable amount of dosh which will allow us to chase a couple elite players.

Really rate the list though.

Gee whiz you have a lot of faith in LOB , his form was ordinary & really St kilda were terrible defensively ... I think he's 50/50 to stay on the list , has afew glaring deficiencies. No Jack Martin in team.. surprising but everyone has a different opinion.

No mate, read my comment…it’s in English so even you can understand it……
I said LOB in the starting 22 in 2022 was interesting on the back of one ok game last week. Let’s see when he starts to string some good games together if he’s in starting 22.
Show me where I said I want to drop him ? Up until last week most people thought he’d be lucky to stay on the list.
For the record, Nick Graham was a fantastic reserves player, almost every week.
And again, I sincerely hope he’s good enough to make it.

Big call is big .... Doc IMO is better suited to the loose defender role and running either side up to the HFF line .. as long as he gets back. This does not make him a winger .... Sometimes he does get lost.

Thought he played his best footy this year when he played wing/on-ball to be honest. Williams is better by foot and stronger in the contest than Doc. Saad has pace but makes worse decisions than Doc.

Either way, he’s got a spot in the side without a doubt.

One of the best, been performing consistently well in the reserves as well. And better than any other winger this year - don't think Newnes has gotten above 20 possessions more than once - if at all.

Honestly this is just ridiculous - no one has performed this well on the wing - no where even CLOSE.



21 disposals, 4 goal assists 6 inside 50, 5 marks.

Just a ludicrous assessment of his performance.

I think its far too simplistic to look at possession counts to determine a player's impact on the game. Can I suggest you have a look at Melbourne v the Western Bulldogs from Round 10 which Melbourne won as Angus Brayshaw played a great game on the wing whilst only having 13 disposals. What he did without the ball was more important than what he did with it through his positioning and covering ground to block outlets and hold up switches which is pretty important against a team like the Dogs.

I get it that Newnes isn't everyone's cup of tea and was very ordinary for a while in the middle of the season when he was rightly dropped, but since he's returned he's been ok getting back to help the defense and providing an outlet. His disposal is average but I could say the same for most in the team, indeed the league. The reality is he has been recruited as a short term insurance policy to allow the likes of O'Brien, Philp, Ramsay etc to work on their games which they needed to do. Luke Power even publicly said O'Brien needed to improve in areas to get regular senior game.

Hopefully this time next year we will be extoling the virtues of the club's approach with O'Brien a first team regular and Newnes relegated to the role of understudy.

So LoB is no go for 2022 because he’s only had one game against St Kilda.

Yet Honey is all good for 2022 after only one game against St Kilda.
