Plowman is not playing in our best 22 next year if we are serious about a culture change.

Might be a good clubman, but his a liability on field when under pressure, and we haven’t even played finals.

Give Plowman a chance with a decent coach. I'm sure Clarkson will put a rocket up his arse and change his mindset.

Is it?

If he is taking an attacking risky option wouldn't it be even more important that he hits the target more than 7 times out of 10?
Yes & It'd be the coaches directive.

It would be but those you've mentioned wouldn't be the players I'd be looking to have ball in hand in that situation either - which is telling given they're essentially flankers.
Jones' primary role is to beat his opponent, he does that to a higher standard than most KPD running around.

PS - What's wrong with Saad? I've been really happy with both his effort and performance this year...

I agree, really, Saad has been pretty good. Just there was the suggestion he didn’t want to play certain defense-first roles - maybe we need him to. Maybe he’s willing to. Dunno.

There have been effort/conditioning/work rate queries on a lot of our big trade targets, though. We’ve spent millions on these guys to improve our team that’s not hard enough, good enough, for long enough. And guess what - we still aren’t! There’s a Bit of a repeated pattern, to me, in who we target and who we attract to our club, and it might be exacerbating our challenge rather than addressing it.

So we have a coach telling a below average kick to take risky kicks and he misses the target 3 times out of 7?

Only Sam Frost has a worse kick than Liam Jones. It's something I've thought when watching Hawthorn and us this year and the stats back it up. Key defenders who have played 5+ games this year those 2 and Sam Taylor are the clear worst offenders.

Anyone who has seen him kick must see a clear flaw in his technique. It's heart in mouth stuff.

Pretty sure this was made up by Essendon who wanted to divert attention away from one of their best players wanting out.

That ain't right. Liam is a good kick.

Takes risky kicks too often though, and as such fluffs a higher percentage. With the occasional mis-kick.

You notice his mistakes more because they happen closer to goal and have a high potential to end in a goal against.

We don't have many other guys who can punch the ball long low and flat. This is often what can get us into open space.

Do you lose an av bet katman ?

There were suggestions that Saad didn't want to play lockdown at * and promising him freedom to attack may have been a big part of our pitch. If he is not keen on playing lockdown first, that may be on us as much as him.

Williams was promised midfield time, which I (and many others) thought was a stretch. And has proven very much the case (so far...).

McGovern was injury-prone and no more than a burst player at Adelaide. Nothing has changed.

I agree we do seem to target players that we feel have untapped potential. But then our systems/staff/culture don't seem to be able to extract that upside.

In theory as we get better, we will attract a better-credentialed candidate. Or at least we will attract players who want to play for us / in finals rather than chasing paycheck or promises of playing roles we (and they) aren't able to deliver on.

TL;DR - I agree with you. There are some big question marks on many of our high-profile recruits.

Why 3 out of 7? His kicking efficiency was 71%

We have to find some way to get some young mids, outside of Walsh none of them appears up to it. Dow miles off, LOB hopeless, SPS below average, Fisher can't find the footy enough, Cunningham a knee, it is a right royal mess right now.

in fairness to Fisher he spends most of his time forward …. Would like to see him pushed up to the wing !!

Daniel Rich is probably the best kick in the league and goes at 77%. He also takes a lot of kick ins and with the nature of it where you bomb long to a contest or hit up an easy target meaning they are mostly “effective kicks” you would think he would be much higher. He is probably going at a pretty similar rate as Jones does around the ground.
For how aggressive so many of Jones possessions are I think 71% is a very good return. Comparing him to other players who chip sideways is pointless

bare with me on this one. Lets assume we are in for cerra and freo doesnt hate the idea of SPS. Does throwing mitch into the mix help our negotiating position, ie we pay the vast majority of the salary, and give up less on the draft pick side of things?

Yes we would need to offer more. Probably a sponsorship to Sizzlers or something ...

I'm a big fan of Fish, but something is up with him. Used to be a real terrier with huge hurt factor, now he's avoiding body contact and absolutely stinking it up in front of goal.

Let’s see how they go against Gold Coast first, make no mistake Gold Coast are a very good side.
Gold Coast are trash, they got rolled by 100 points by a decent side who were out of form and then they came up against us.. We dont count in the discussion because we are a pathetic football club.
