I'd say Marchbank might get bought out. Also, does Doch go on the LTI list?

I am not sure there is any way for us to get list relief for Docherty. He's still on the Senior list, even when long-term "injured". It does essentially give us the permanent option of being able to select Owies in the seniors, but that's about it.

I'd say we are moving away from lighter types (SPS, Gibbons, Ramsay) towards more power athletes

Precisely and more to go LOB ,Fisher & Dow all light framed easily pushed off the ball, reckon they’ll be scrutinized in season 2022, problem is they’ve not build up core strength and or physiques much, after 4 AFL seasons a bit of a worry. The aerobic capacity is an issue too if one considers them all as rotational midfielders.

Ramsay getting cut reminds me a bit of when we delisted Pat Kerr, quite a few were upset since he'd shown a bit in the ressies but I don't think we're exactly kicking ourselves over that decision.

Wouldn't be upset if he got re-rookied however.

Good luck to Gibbo. Very good decision by the club IMO. Like SPS is not even close to a top 4 club midfielder. As a small forward doesn’t have the the defensive traits at all.

Its not just about stats winning. It’s about letting the opposition escape with the ball. To the eye Fogarty/Owies/Honey put up more of a fight in that category.

Could this be the start of a smart coaching group and selection decisions. We don’t need Murphy clones.
I hope you're consistent and are bagging Murph in 10 years time. Great work.

There is an AFL rule that states you can only retain 3 Category A rookies from the previous season on the rookie list.

By the end of the season we had 8 due to the 2 picks in the MSD.

We have only lost Eddie Betts off the rookie list so far, so we sit at 7.

Kennedy, Honey and Mirkov all have contracts.
Parks, Cottrell, Boyd & McDonald do not.

Unless we upgrade Kennedy and/or Honey, we will have to cut all 4 players without contracts.
We have the option to re-rookie them with the three vacancies we create.

I think Kennedy gets upgraded and takes that 3rd live ND pick, and we draft 2 kids.
This will mean that we can retain one of the four rookies above, I feel it would be Parks or Boyd.

The other 3 will be cut, at least for first list lodgement, with the potential to be re-rookied. Although it doesn't usually happen for rookies, more for senior list demotions.

As a Cat B Rookie, Owies sits outside of this. Is allowed one more year on the Cat B list, so its a no brainer to retain him there for one more season.
Might take someone like Akuei as a CatB.

So, after acquiring Young, Cerra and Hewitt and delisting Gibbons and Ramsay do we have 34 remaining on the senior list? And, can we take a further 2 in the ND and upgrade Kennedy and Honey which would bring us up to the maximum number of 38? If so, could LOB stay on the senior list where he is now (provided they want him)? If Kennedy and Honey are upgraded to the senior list then that would leave us with 5 rookies and only 2 of those would have to be delisted and be replaced with this year's rookies. Is that anywhere close to being right?
Yes, definitely within the parameters and is possible if we go with a 38-4 (senior-rookie) structure.

However the club has shown it prefers to use the 36-6 structure with the two extra rookies.

This is simply due to the salary cap, I'm not sure on the exact amount, but I believe its about 50% of the players salary is paid within the cap and 50% is outside the cap. So it ends up being a salary cap saving/banking exercise.

So even though our players get paid the same amount, the club saves salary cap funds to redistribute to player retention/acquisition.

It's a neat and completely legal way to manipulate the salary cap and maximise pay to our playing group.

As the club is in a strong financial position off the field, it doesn't mind the addition small added costs in order to preserve salary cap space and be aggressive at trade time.

Although this does mean we have to ask players to swallow their pride and be demoted to the rookie list every now and then (Kennedy & Betts last year).

Hope Gibbo gets another gig somewhere else, really liked his work.

Ramsay getting de-listed is a little bit of a surprise, this club really has some weird de-listings at times - I remember the melts when DeLuca got delisted, still doesn't make sense.

Can have 42 total between senior and rookie, as of now we have 34 senior and 7 rookies plus Owies as catB rookie which doesn’t count, so that’s 41 we have as of today.

Take 2 in the draft and upgrade Kennedy would give us 37 senior list players.

Leaving room for 5 rookies, by cutting either Cottrell, Boyd, Parks or McDonald and upgrading Kennedy that would leave 5.

So if we upgrade Kennedy we only have to cut 1 more rookie assuming we don’t bring in anyone else in the trade period or look to add through the rookie or pre season drafts.

Note: All rookies can be retained for an extra year due to Covid etc.

He's pretty one dimensional in the way he plays and I suspect has a limited ceiling. Doesn't mean there isn't a place for him in an AFL side if he does a few things REALLY well but I think we're leaving a lot on the table if he is ultimately our best option as a small forward.
Maybe, but I guess that's why Durdin is also there - and he looks a real goer based on the one game I've seen.

Old mate Soapy posted LOB is staying on the main board. Very happy to hear that
I'll be Happy if Vossy can turn him around. Both Him and Dow have great attributes but just can't find that consistency. Not getting much opportunity under Teague, then getting dropped again due to the teams overall poor performance doesn't help.

Start thinking Lob and Cerra wings mate ...

Bit perplexed by this? You don't feel like he's delivered as a small forward considering his limited opportunities?
I thinks he has done an excellent job, nailing most of his shots at goal and working hard defensively. I'd rate him as a success this year TBH.

I don't rate him ahead of Fisher and Gibbo, both who showed more in a similar role

I thought you’d finally made peace with the fact that Gibbons probably wouldn’t make it?

Will he get picked up elsewhere? I doubt it…

Wouldn't make it? If he didn't get injured, he would have trigger another year. His output, despite being a role player was better than most other options in a similar role

Only difference, he was out of contract

I get you don’t like the negativity on players. Mostly I’m saying he is the wrong player type for the current game. Same as Murphy is in the current game. The dees and doggies midfielders are all power and collision based. Gibbo is a midfielder with weak fwd capabilities.

Ultimately if as a club we are too slow and too soft then we fail in this build.

And above all, you don’t offer much except silly derailing one liners. Or the above post. I value posters who explain views on our current players and debate their corner. I’ve done that with my posts. Given reasons why we don’t want him. I don’t much see any real insight coming from you So you value to me is just totally in seeing your post count creep up one more number.
