Ramsay was playing well in the VFL, should have been considered for AFL at times and then later was moved to the backline in the VFL. Teague was a disaster as coach, there is no doubt about that.

Yeah especially the team selection bit. Ramsay should have played a few. !

Wouldn't make it? If he didn't get injured, he would have trigger another year. His output, despite being a role player was better than most other options in a similar role

Only difference, he was out of contract
Making it was probably the wrong term as he’s played in the league, therefore has made it. I meant long term on our list as a viable player in a finals side

If he had’ve been thought of in this way, he’d have been given a contract. I doubt he makes it onto another list either which would say a bit

Really nice guy by the looks of it and loved by his teammates, so I wish him well. Be great if we could sign him up for the twos…

Would/Should we consider Tyson Stengel at pick 25?? Or are we happy with Owies/Honey/Durdin as our small fwd options?

Stengle is available now as a free agent. There's obviously no way we'd consider using a draft pick on him, let alone a 2nd round pick.

I don't rate him ahead of Fisher and Gibbo, both who showed more in a similar role
Yeah, not sure if Fisher counts, I like Fish but he plays up the ground more than a traditional crumbing small forward. Owies kicked goals with limited Opportunity and delivered when the team didn't. I found him more reliable as a pure goalkicker than Fish.

Geelong are going after him and I think Eddie's appointment has a lot to do with it as he'll be mentoring him (related also).

Could happen I guess, but there is competition for spots there too... we will keep 6 Category A rookies, and we know two of those will be Mirkov and Honey, as they are contracted. Kennedy is obviously contracted too, but with our 2021 National Draft picks headed south during this trade period, I would imagine we'll use 82 to upgrade Kennedy to the Senior list.

Assuming the above, there are 4 Cat A spots left (remembering Owies is Cat B), and if Ramsay and Gibbons are candidates, they go into the mix with the uncontracted Parks, Boyd, Cottrell, McDonald and (I suspect) LOB. Plus anyone "new" that we might be interested in looking at for Cat A.

Edit: Ignore this post, read the one above mine :)

I read it anyway. Coz I’m fascinated by this stuff.

Have to cut deeper than that.

There are still plenty out of contract and we have draft and rookies and possibly DFA to bring in.

If we can find someone to take Setterfield for nothing (unless whatever bothered him is magically fixed) or Fisher for something decent, I'd not be averse. Need to move on from some of these guys, which is why Ramsay being punted annoys me.

Subjective isn't it, if it was Cotts, Fog, Owies that were delisted due to being OOC, or not a free hit sitting outside the main list, would any of them be picked up? I doubt it. Similar yeah?

If SPS was thought of in that way, he too would have been offered a contract?

Not hard to understand

Also provides more pressure all over the ground.

When was the last time Fisher made a goal saving tackle?

Precisely and more to go LOB ,Fisher & Dow all light framed easily pushed off the ball, reckon they’ll be scrutinized in season 2022, problem is they’ve not build up core strength and or physiques much, after 4 AFL seasons a bit of a worry. The aerobic capacity is an issue too if one considers them all as rotational midfielders.

I'm constantly surprised at how puny Dow is in the upper body. He does have strong legs and hips, but there's not enough mass and little will to tackle.

Hence, Fisher being more valuable due to versatility. Gibbo in the same role, first 3 games, as Owies, evidence is clear as to output.

Anyway, more important issues than discussing footsoilders

It's a good sign when we start delisting players that have some ability..usually we have plenty to delist at this time of year..spots will have to be fought for, not just given to a player with a bit of a profile.
something we have needed for a long time.

Why? Gibbons is limited and we have more than enough small forward/mid types.
Cottrell is a winger or a half back and we need more of both.

that's the reality.

Perhaps he was never given enough opportunity to ply his trade as an inside mid? I think he was wasted in that high half forward role.

Likewise Samo in his natural spot, but the cards have been dealt.

Agree that a few others should have been cut first, but a few more must be cut so the order is really irrelevant?

You’re the one bringing up other names, I’m concentrating on what I think Gibbons' ability was and that’s not quite at the level to be a good AFL footballer IMO. As will be evidenced by him not being picked up elsewhere and the fact he was overlooked for years

If he had a 12 month contract then I’d be fine with him staying, like Fogarty. If his performance level stayed the same then I’d just delist him next season instead

Point is, long term, he wasn’t of the standard to be a keeper unfortunately, same with the other blokes you mentioned (I still have hope for Owies but that’s a personal preference)

*SPS still had trade value, Gibbons was delisted, bit of a difference there

I'd say we are moving away from lighter types (SPS, Gibbons, Ramsay) towards more power athletes

Something SOS failed to identify in the first place. Drafting Carrol and Boyd gives me confidence Austin places priority on work ethic and being strong around the hips rather than being flashy with no substance.
