Changed jobs this month, and Round 1 has crept up on me with all the other sh*t taking my attention.

This is a half hour job, and based primarily on the back of the discussion and submitted teams in this thread... apologies for the lack of creativity.

Would appreciate any feedback on the below as a starting point. Worried my mids are too weak. Also have the same fears for forwards and backs!

Cheers

Had a go at this over the weekend....only $200 left, but thinking if any new rookies are named I can downgrade one of the 200k-ers and upgrade one of the others!

Gawn > rookie and strengthen your other lines.

Have done the least amount of research I have ever done, and with such little exposed form its hard to know who are the must have rookies. Gone for a strategy of thinking price growth will come from the mid pricers rather than rookies. Main issue I have is that i dont have a lock for captain.
I don’t mind it, you probably have a few too many midpriced PODs though. Could crash and burn very hard.

Maybe switch a few to genuine premos, means you’ll need to take on more rookies though.

Lots of PODs. Your backline is not very good as Weitering, Moore and Morrison are probably not SC relevant. I'll give you Weitering at a stretch. Midfield looks pretty decent with again lots of PODs but lots of upside. I dispute 1 or 2 of your mids but i understand why you've picked them. Big O could be a great option in the rucks. Forwardline is heavily reliant on your top 3 breaking out. I'm not going to be too harsh with my assessment but i think if you fix your backline and then maybe add 1 premium forward it would look quite a bit better. It is different, ill give you that. Often i like different but your backs and forwards don't appeal

The POD was exactly what I was looking for, just so sick of seeing teams that are 90% alike. Since posting I have made a few tweaks..

Mainly
- Changed Daicos for Bailey Smith.. Both i think will be very good players, but Smith likely to be more consistent
- Freeing up cash from bench players, has allowed me to upgrade Hately to Tim Kelly
- Changed Moore & Weitering for Zac Williams and Jordan Clark

I agree am light on in the forwards, but I am bullish about Toby Greene turning into a premium 100+ player and hopefully now he is a leader at the Giants he wont miss the games through stupid suspensions. DeGoey should play through the midfield which should boost him to be a 90pt avg, Stephenson should avg 80+, Daniher 70-80 and then i just need the other players to play and increase in value.

I am not sold on Tom Green, reports suggest he is due a breakout year but still needs to get midfield minutes in front of Conigs, Kelly, Hopper, Ward, Tarranto, De Boer so looking for an option to replace him..

Another guy with Greene and Tim Kelly :fire:

Not sold on the Stephenson and L McDonald (Sydney) selections though.

How the fu** have I only just found out that teams are announced the day before each game this year. That is some absolute horseshit.

Where does AFL house get their meth from?
To be fair ....we have a pretty good idea now, or will have with Clubs Social Media over the coming days

How is Telly's finger going? Missed all the preseason matches and did no contact for a while because of a nasty finger injury. With Yeo and Shuey out, I'm sure he'll be getting in and under, might be worried about the finger if it's bad. Was keen on him before I heard this

Seems a bit risky to divulge drug dealer details on Social Media.

Sorry. Miscounted. You have 12.
Nice team mate, but I would try and get 1 more premo.

Downgrade one of Young or Fantasia to Butts
Downgrade one of Daniher or Impey to Bergman or HJones
Upgrade Heppell to the best player you can afford (MID or FWD via Dunk/Danger)
No, you were right the first time. Only 11

Thank you all for the help! Good luck for your seasons!

I asked about him on the West Coast board and they said he'll play this weekend. With Yeo and Shuey out he should be getting plenty of the footy, I'd imagine he's fit because it's his finger that's been injured. Even if it isn't 100% I'm willing to take a punt on him. Hopefully in a couple weeks he's 100% and flying for when League H2H matches start.

Penny for your thoughts gang? Haven't seen any pre season games this year so really just going off what I've reads of the match reports etc.
$65K left in the kitty.
Considering Taranto maybe to Cerra as a POD?

I like Cerra as a pod but he still needs a fitness test for round one.

Not sold on Young will probably downgrade to free up a bit of extra cash for maybe upgrading one of the other mid pricers. First time I have had Gawn in any team this pre season but I couldn't go without him this season after going without for the past 2/3. SC 2021.PNG

Reading the Geelong boards Rd1 preview thread you get the impression that J Clark is no better than a 50/50 chance to play Rd1 or hold his spot.
You should know, Club Boards are highly inaccurate for team selection news

Im really struggling to get my head around why alot of teams have players like

Caldwell -$348,600
Butters - $471,400
Phillips - $402,600

Compared to Dustin Martin $541,600 or Duckley $560,600 who are keeper for so little difference in price
caldwell is a 200k savings.. i get what you mean with butters. but caldwell is justified.

I'm a huge fan of Clark, but I'm very sceptical of his job security also. I'd love to see him play every game this year, but with this backline - and quality competition for a spot on the wing - I'm concerned he'll still be rotated out of the side. Is 240k worth that risk?

FB: O'Connor, Blicavs, Kolodjashnij
HB: Stewart, Henderson, Henry
Wings: Smith, Menegola
IC: Bews (FWD?), Tuohy (FWD?)

I love a speculative ruck selection. This is my year. ;)

FWIW I've since dropped him (Clark).

Bruhn comes in now that his debut is confirmed. Downie a placeholder until a better option presents itself.

Treacy looking like he might be suspended for R1 which is just the light breeze my risky-at-best, downright-crazy-at-worst ruck setup needed to collapse.

Would love to free up ~90k but no idea where that's coming from.

Yeh, I get that Geelong have a lot of players to choose from in Defence and on the Wings. They also have Duncan to come back in, plus Atkins who also played really well at HB in the praccy match. The Geelong board people a made good point about their MC always choosing the defensive first players over the attacking ones in the back half. Clark offers something different plus pace which is what they lack and should suit the new rules, whether or not they tinker with their game style to include some attacking flair or stick with what made them the second best team is the question. If he's named and plays well in Rd1 only to be ommitted for Duncan in Rd2 I'm going to lose my shit.
