I dont know if Comben would be best 22 if fit.
Reckon he might need some more VFL time.
1 AFL game isnt exactly looking like a huge lock for me right now.
Pressure for spots as a tall forward at North is something we really havent had for the last 5-6 years.

Yeah I’d get another kpf that’s ready to go now in weid , chol or CCJ.
Crazy if we’re putting all our eggs on just larkey and comben

Remember when everyone turned their noses up at McDonald when he was offered around and they wanted to include him as part of the Brown deal?
Not everyone. I wanted TMac once it was known that Brown was out. He would have been handy support for Larks this year and wouldn't have cost us a lot

All depends on him wanting to leave but what value our club put on his abilities.

it’s a no brainer to me we need a good young KPF that is age or there about but ready to go.

see what happens
Ready to go for a grand total of a goal a game. Do not want to even negotiate, anything more than a third is an overpayment not worthy of our time

He’s not a good young KPF though

I think Weideman could have been better this year but I also feel like Melbourne vindicated the Brown signing at stages. In a young forward line working with Larkey and Comben I think he's a great option for our third pick and beyond.
Am I simply immune to his charms, I don’t see it

Whoever we trade or draft for the short term is going to be used to fill the colossal hole we have across the HF line. Marking power is what we need to connect our strong young kids to our young goal kickers. If Weids or some other cheap target Brady has in mind can do that, then that will be a massive win.

We don’t need a world beater right now. We need a solid role player who can straighten us up and provide a launching pad from HF.

Weideman isn't sh!t, but he also isn't the type of quality that is hard to come by. If we get to the end of 2023 or 2024 and still need something like what Weideman can offer, do it then.

There is def a player in there. I'd back in Rocca to bring it out.

23 and 3 in a final is nothing to be scoffed at:

The other 48 games have been underwhelming

People will probably hate this one, but here's a scenario that I actually wouldn't mind seeing in reality, in terms of being prepared to forego seeking extra high picks this year (such as going for the Bulldogs 1st) and seek them next year instead. Thinking on that is:

- There is a lot of uncertainty this year around ranking talent, so may it not be a great year for spending the capital required to drastically move up the draft board and we may also have just as good a chance getting a good player in the 30s as in the late teens or 20s.

- Things should (hopefully) return to normal next year for underage games, so we should have a much better idea on ranking talent next year.

- By the end of 2022 we will have also had another year of development into many youngsters, so will have a better idea of our needs at the draft.

- We obviously had a massive cleanout of the last year, so I think we have a fairly delicately positioned list in terms of retaining leaders vs continuing to rebuild. I'd be happy to see us retain a lot of our leaders for another year, but then several to go next year as the likes of Simpkin and co all have another season under their belts.

- I consider our two MSD picks as draftees for 2022 rather than this year. Edwards is probably another 1st and I'm assuming we must rate Ham in the top 50 or we wouldn't have bothered taking him, so with a bit of trading like the below and taking 4 picks in the main draft we could still effectively be bringing in 6 x top 50 picks for 2022.

- What I'd like to see this year in our first 3 picks is best available (pick 1 - JHF), a KPD and a HBF. Then with the 4th pick and rookie pick take a ruckman and another KPP. Happy to defer a small forward to next year and use a high pick on them then, noting small forwards come on much quicker than say a KPD or ruckman.

Anyway, after all that, start with picks 1, 20, 38, 69 & 74.

1. Dumont leaves for free agency, netting us Band 4 compensation (pick 38) and moving our later picks back 1. I don't think the AFL will give us a priority pick at all - they'll say come back again next year if you're still sh!t - and Atley will also go but with no compensation. So an end of 2nd round pick is all we'll get for free.

2. Trade our 2022 3rd (say, pick 41) to Brisbane for picks 48 & 58. This may seem contrary to all of the above, but needs to be done for the next trade.

3. Trade picks 38, 39 & 58 to Collingwood for pick 34 and their 2022 2nd pick (21). This is a 539 point gain to Collingwood this year so would be pretty attractive to them I would think as it will protect their 2022 1st pick. But by the time it is offset by their 2nd pick next year I think it is a win for us overall. Good for us, but the Pies would be OK with it after we inadvertently mentioned in conversation that JHF is our No. 1 rated player this year (it's not draft tampering though).

4. Trade picks 70 & 75 to St Kilda for their 2022 4th pick (63). Would work out about the same in terms of transferring some points between clubs, with St Kilda having a couple of academy prospects this year and us having Harvey next year.

Take picks 1, 20, 34 & 48 to the draft and use them as I mentioned above. For 2022 we have traded our 3rd, but have Collingwood's 2nd which should be high 2nd round and St Kilda's 4th.

Then at the draft, depending on who is still on the board that we might want/not want at pick 20, consider a trade with one of the clubs that might want to be trading up. Something like:

5. Trade our picks 20, 48 & 2022 4th (59) to Melbourne for picks 33, 52 & their 2022 1st.

So our draft would look something like this (accounting for F/S & academy bids): 1 - JHF, 36 - Bazzo (KPD), 37 - Rayson (HBF), 52 - Conway (Ruck), Rookie pick 1 - another KPP.

For 2022 we would then have our 1st (5) and 2nd (23), Melbourne's 1st (17) and Collingwood's 2nd (21), so 4 picks in the top 25, as well as St Kilda's 4th (63) to match a bid for Harvey.

2022 to be our last year of going hard at the draft. From 2023 onwards we consider topping up by trading 1st rounders, going hard for free agents, bringing in depth where required (i.e. no bringing in depth this year), etc.

TLDR....I actually don't now how to summarise all that, so either read it or just scroll past :)

did you really just give the GoDees van ROOyen? let's see what the Magic Trade Dice thinks of that.

just what I thought, no one touches van ROOyen

the more time passes the more I want 37 too, only because it is our lucky draft number
Sounds good.

We don't have to trade it and if we did we'd miss out on a player who looks like they will fit right in to what our team needs so go for it. I probably should have started the comment with the words "At least".

I'm no fan of Weideman but he is only 24 so as 198cm tall forward, he may be worth a punt but not for either picks 1 or 20. Happy to give up pick 38.
He is 195cm so not an option as a second ruck type.

Worth a punt for a low draft pick (or PSD) as depth for Larkey and Chom - but that's about it for mine.

If we go one of Weideman, CCJ, Chol or Brander, who would you prefer?

I'd rather Weideman or Brander. Whoever is a better chance to become a long term CHB.

Neither would cost much. Not sure is any of them in the answer.

Weideman, is a KF with 6 years experience who has never kicked more than 3 goals in a game and only done that twice. He has had more goalless games than multiple goal games. BB, a 3 time runner up in the Coleman, was worth only a 2nd. I wouldn't give our 3rd for Weideman.

Howdy Mr Crazy :p I think we'd win that and would transform our horrid backline. I actually don't think the Crows would do it.

Love ya mate but this is ****ing awful. Put it away and go do some weights or flick on the webcam or something.

Doedee and Chayce Jones? Is carb depletion messing you around and you read it as "A 21yo Andrew McLeod and a 22yo Mark Riccuitto?"

If we offered pick #4, Luke McDonald and Bonar to the crows last year for pick #1 they'd have reported us to the AFL for smoking too much wacky shit.

Stop it. Stop it immediately.

I was banging on about the backline a few weeks ago but didn't mean let's give up the next potential Michael Voss to see if we can get ourselves the next John Baird and Kasey Green.
